****************************************************

The 1951 novel The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, is arguably the most controversial book of all time.

Nicknamed the ‘Bible of teenage angst’, the classic novel, which is frequently labeled immoral by different groups, has been banned in various parts of America over the decades. From 1961-1982 it was the most censored book in libraries and high schools across the US. School principals have branded it communist propaganda and teachers have been fired for assigning it to students.

But the main controversy, and indeed the most common reason for it being banned, was that it either directly inspired or was associated with some of the most infamous crimes of the 20th Century.

Presidential assassins and would-be Presidential assassins, stalkers and murderers of film stars and music icons are among the known deranged individuals who were obsessed with Salinger’s book, which many claim to be an assassination trigger device.

The murderers, stalkers and their victims and targets, who are all either confirmed or rumored to be part of the The Catcher in the Rye mystery, include John Lennon, Ronald Reagan, Robert John Bardo, Lee Harvey Oswald, Bobby Kennedy, Madonna, Martin Luther King, Mark David Chapman, Jack Ruby, Rebecca Schaeffer, Jodie Foster, JFK, John Hinckley Junior, James Earl Ray and Sirhan Sirhan.

The allegation pointed at Salinger is that he craftily implanted coded messages into the book that act as post-hypnotic suggestions or mind control triggers. In turn, these enable the CIA handlers to activate Manchurian Candidates for planned assassinations.

Many believe the novel was part of the CIA’s extensive mind control program MK-Ultra and that while future assassins are being brainwashed they are forced to read the book over and over until it is embedded in their minds.

These ideas and others have been covered in pop culture, especially in the 1997 film Conspiracy Theory, in which Mel Gibson’s character carries a copy of Salinger’s book with him at all times. The cleverly-written film, which at first appears to be a lightweight romantic comedy co-starring rom-com queen Julia Roberts, becomes more intense as the story progresses and it’s revealed Mel Gibson’s character is entwined with the CIA and is a mind control victim of the agency’s MK-Ultra program.

Salinger’s book co-stars along with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts in the movie Conspiracy Theory.

Season three of the TV series Criminal Minds features an episode called Limelight in which the character of David Rossi, played by Joe Mantegna, mentions having once interviewed serial killer Ted Bundy who told him, “If you wanna stop people from becoming like me, don’t burn Catcher in the Rye.”

An episode of the animated TV series South Park also covers the mind control theory in a humorous way when one of the show’s young characters reads the book then picks up a knife and starts saying, “Kill John Lennon, kill John Lennon.” The boy is disappointed when his father informs him the former Beatle was assassinated years earlier.

But seriously, can The Catcher in the Rye really wake MK-Ultra sleeper assassins from their slumber?

“A substitute teacher out on Long Island was dropped from his job for fighting with a student. A few weeks later, he returned to the classroom, shot the student, unsuccessfully, held the class hostage and then shot himself. Successfully. This fact caught my eye: last sentence, Times; A neighbor described him as a nice boy – always reading Catcher in the Rye. The nitwit, Chapman, who shot John Lennon said he did it because he wanted to draw the attention of the world to The Catcher in the Rye and the reading of the book would be his defense. And young Hinckley, the whiz kid who shot Reagan and his press secretary, said if you want my defense all you have to do is read Catcher in the Rye.” –Monologue delivered by Will Smith in the film Six Degrees of Separation (1993)

It must be noted the idea that assassination codes are buried deep in Salinger’s book is one of the oldest conspiracy theories around and has often been explored over the decades. In fact, many readers familiar with Catcher conspiracies may think all the theories have already been proven to be false and there’s no need to drag them up yet again.

However, given what we’ve unearthed in compiling this book (The Orphan Conspiracies) thus far – especially the unique revelations on the history of mind control, the effectiveness of subliminal messages, the latest scientific studies on the brain, the Americanized Nazis in Project Paperclip and the recently declassified documents on real-life Manchurian Candidates – we believe some of the theories swirling about Salinger’s classic deserve another look.

“I shoot people in this hat.” – J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

Introducing…the Catcher criminals

The mother of all Catcher incidents is probably Mark David Chapman’s assassination of John Lennon on December 8, 1980. As widely reported, and as mentioned in chapters 21 and 23, the killer stood over the ex-Beatle’s corpse after shooting him and patiently read a copy of Salinger’s classic while waiting for police to arrive and arrest him.

Not long before the murder, Chapman had wanted to change his name to the novel’s narrator and anti-hero Holden Caulfield – so enamored was he with this fictitious character; inside the very copy of the book Chapman had purchased on the day of the murder, police found he’d written, “To Holden Caulfield, From Holden Caulfield, This is my statement”; and during the court case that followed, Chapman read a passage from the novel when addressing the judge and jury during his sentencing.

In the FBI’s Vault the following is mentioned under the file Attempted Assassination of President Ronald Reagan: “On March 31, 1981, John W. Hinckley, Jr., shot President Ronald Reagan and several others in a failed assassination attempt. The FBI conducted an extensive investigation, named REAGAT.”

The moments after Reagan was shot and wounded (above) and the offender Hinckley (below).

Just like Mark David Chapman, Hinckley did not attempt to flee the crime site and seemed content to be arrested. After the assassination attempt, which besides wounding President Reagan also left White House Press Secretary James Brady permanently disabled, detectives found a copy of The Catcher in the Rye on a coffee table in Hinckley’s hotel room.

Before the attempt on Reagan’s life, Hinckley had relentlessly stalked actress Jodie Foster for a number of years. He reportedly became obsessed with the Hollywood star after first seeing her in Martin Scorsese’s 1976 film Taxi Driver. Even to this day, more than three decades later, Foster has hardly ever spoken of the incident and has been known to walk out of interviews when Hinckley’s name, or the Reagan assassination attempt, is mentioned.

Jodie Foster's primary photo

Jodie Foster…stalked.

The shooter, whose full name was John Warnock Hinckley Jr. (maintaining the three-name lone gunman theme), tried to assassinate Reagan because he said he thought that would impress Jodie Foster. It was later revealed that during his stay in the Washington D.C. psychiatric hospital St. Elizabeths, Hinckley had exchanged letters with serial killer Ted Bundy and sought the address of mass murderer Charles Manson.

Now alone with Seventeen, Naylor stared intently at the young blonde operative. She was as motionless as a statue, staring right through him. She’d been like this for the past couple of minutes, but she didn’t know that. Her eyes had glazed over and she was in some kind of trance. She held a copy of the novel, The Catcher in the Rye.The Ninth Orphan

Another Catcher fan was Robert John Bardo, yet another three-name assassin, who murdered American actress and model Rebecca Schaeffer on July 18, 1989. Like Mark David Chapman, Bardo was carrying a copy of Salinger’s book on him at the scene of the crime.

Robert John Bardo and his victim Rebecca Schaeffer.

The one-time stalker of Madonna and child actress Samantha Smith, Bardo stalked Schaeffer before finding her alone at her home in Los Angeles. He shot the star of My Sister Sam TV series in the chest then threw his red paperback copy of the book onto the roof of a nearby building as he fled.

As for JFK’s killer Lee Harvey Oswald, The Catcher in the Rye was found in a raid on his Dallas, Texas apartment after the assassination. His other books included George Orwell’s Animal Farm and Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. Although unconfirmed, it has been claimed by a few sources that Oswald was very keen on Salinger’s novel, which apparently was his favorite.

Criminals not officially acknowledged but rumored in conspiracy circles to have been directly influenced by Catcher include RFK’s assassin Sirhan Sirhan, Lee Harvey Oswald’s killer Jack Ruby, Martin Luther King’s murderer James Earl Ray, cult leader and killer Charles Manson, the Washington Sniper John Allen Muhammad, Jonestown founder Jim Jones, the Boston Strangler Albert DeSalvo, the unidentified Zodiac Killer, the Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, serial killer Ted Bundy and the Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh.

The Washington Sniper…a rumored devotee of Catcher.

Even if none of these killers were inspired by Salinger’s novel, the list of murderers and other criminals whose possession of, or obsession with, the book has been proven is surprisingly lengthy and throws up a thousand unanswered questions.

Isn’t it also possible, probable or even highly likely other criminals have been inspired by The Catcher in the Rye? How many assassins disposed of their copies after committing murders or other crimes – as Robert John Bardo tried to do? Maybe others were as obsessed with the book as Mark David Chapman was, but subsequent investigations failed to uncover those details? After all, not every criminal keeps a diary or records of their personal library of reading material.

As one book reviewer wrote on Amazon.com in a review of Salinger’s classic: “There may be countless other criminals and stalkers who have identified with the book’s main character, Holden Caulfield.”

Minutes earlier, Naylor had hypnotized Seventeen using the MK-Ultra voice commands he’d recently received from Langley. For years, he’d wanted to have his way with Seventeen. Receiving the orphans’ MK-Ultra codes had presented him with the perfect opportunity. It was perfect because she would never remember a thing. The copy of The Catcher in the Rye he’d given her was all part of the mind control program. The book acted as an additional control mechanism to activate hypnotism triggers in the brain. The Ninth Orphan

A literary psy-op?

In The Ninth Orphan, Nine and his fellow orphans have a triggering device which happens to be the names of all the planets in the solar system – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. When the orphans hear or read those words in precisely that order, they immediately fall into a hypnotized state as a result of their MK-Ultra programming. That’s all their handlers have to do to gain total control of their charges and force them to do anything, even kill.

This phrasing technique we included in our novel was based on declassified CIA documents, as well as published research on hypnotism, revealing how mind control has been shown to work. It’s only one of many techniques used, but one that crops up again and again in the documented evidence of successful mind control experiments.

Accepting for a moment that Catcher is such a triggering device, it would likely set off MK-Ultra subjects by having carefully phrased words in strategic parts of the book. Nobody outside of the sleeper assassins and their intelligence agency handlers would be able to recognize such phrases as being abnormal, especially if crafted by such a skillful writer as Salinger.

Richard Condon’s 1959 classic novel The Manchurian Candidate uses only one card, the Queen of Hearts, out of an entire deck of cards as a triggering device for activating the mind control programs in the story’s main characters. If the mind controlled subjects are shown a deck of cards, card by card, they’re hypnotized simply because the Queen of Hearts happens to be in the deck. Keep in mind there are 52 cards in a deck, so about 98% of cards in the deck aren’t related to the mind control program at all.

Similarly, 98% of Salinger’s book would simply be literature and probably have nothing to do with nefarious intelligence agency programs like MK-Ultra. It wouldn’t have upset the flow of the novel if Salinger, or perhaps his publishing house editor, had inserted a few brief triggering devices, or phrases, at the behest of the CIA or FBI or other such agency.

If the novel contains mind control triggers there are two obvious possibilities regarding exactly who inserted them.

One is that Salinger didn’t deliberately insert such triggers in Catcher and had no knowledge his book would be used for mind control. Instead, it was simply used by intelligence agencies, without his permission, as a triggering device to prompt chosen subjects to kill. This would likely have been achieved during the brainwashing process of subjects by repeating certain sentences from the book over and over. It may also be true that the likes of the CIA simply selected the novel as the perfect story to brainwash lone gunmen given its themes of alienation and angst.

The second possibility is that Salinger knowingly inserted mind control phrases into the novel and worked in collusion with high ranking officials in the US intelligence community. Following this theme Salinger along with his advisors, or controllers perhaps, planted excerpts of neurolinguistic writing designed to speak to an assassin’s brain.

How could any ordinary writer achieve that? Such a question assumes Salinger was an ordinary writer…

The author’s secretive life

JD Salinger.jpg

The man himself…J.D. Salinger (1950).

J.D. Salinger was by all accounts a recluse and, of all the 20th Century’s masters of literature, he’s probably the one least is known about. This is due in part to his extreme desire for privacy. A good example of this was the reported act of painting his forest cabin in camouflage colors so nobody could find him!

Despite living until 2010, some 59 years after The Catcher in the Rye was first published and became a phenomenal worldwide bestseller, he never published another novel.

Salinger’s last published work, the short story collection Hapworth 16, 1924, came out in 1965. From that point on he continued to write, but his writing remained for his eyes only. Calls from his millions of fans eager to read more of his works apparently fell on deaf ears.

Besides being reclusive, many have labeled him eccentric and even mean-spirited. There are numerous colorful stories about him. These include him regularly drinking his own urine, becoming enraged whenever his infant children cried, being a hypochondriac, telling one of his wives never to disturb him “unless the house is burning down”, exploring Dianetics (later renamed Scientology) and meeting its founder L. Ron Hubbard, and having his photo removed from all his books’ jackets.

However, what many conspiracy theorists believe holds the key in the whole mystery surrounding Catcher is Salinger’s life before he wrote the book. During and immediately after World War 2 to be precise.

And like many subjects in this book, the controversies linked to Salinger’s masterpiece appear to lead directly back to the Nazis.

What few of Salinger’s fans ever fully comprehend is the man’s extensive military and intelligence employment history. Employment that included working for the OSS – the forerunner to the CIA – on highly classified projects in Europe post-WW2.

According to the 1988 unauthorized biography In Search of J.D. Salinger, by Ian Hamilton, Salinger worked for the Defense Intelligence during WW2 and served with the Counter Intelligence Corps. His main duties, Hamilton wrote, involved interrogating captured Nazis.

And on September 3, 2013, The Telegraph ran an article headlined JD Salinger’s five unpublished titles revealed, and how Second World War shaped his thinking. According to the article, one of Salinger’s unpublished books is “about his time interrogating prisoners of war when he served working in the counter-intelligence division”. That book, incidentally, has the revealing title, A Counterintelligence Agent’s Diary.

Equally intriguing is another unpublished Salinger book titled A World War II Love Story, which according to the same article claims is “based on his brief marriage to Sylvia, a Nazi collaborator, just after the war”.

Ian Hamilton’s In Search of J.D. Salinger also mentions that as the war came to a close Salinger was an active participant in the deNazification of Germany.

Now let’s think about that word for a moment…deNazification.

That word could very well mean Salinger was actively involved in the genesis of Project Paperclip, that clandestine program we detailed in chapter 12, which involved smuggling hundreds of Nazis into America and using them to progress the US intelligence and scientific sectors. After all, declassified files have since revealed that much of America’s (and the Soviet Union’s) efforts in deNazifying Europe in truth amounted to gathering up all the Nazi regime’s incredible scientific technologies, not to mention its scientists.

J.D. Salinger and war buddies

In fact, some researchers have gone as far as saying the process was more of a reNazification than a deNazification. Or, put another way, fascism continued, stronger than ever, but in another form and leaping across oceans to far-away countries like America.

As we’ve shown in earlier chapters through declassified documents and mainstream media reports, some of the Paperclip Nazi scientists squirreled into the US after WW2 were charged with developing America’s earliest attempts at mind control. This was due to the fact that the Nazis had made tremendous progress in the science of the mind – primarily because of the horrific experiments they conducted on live prisoners during the Holocaust.

Declassified documents also prove these Americanized Nazis had a major influence on the intelligence community in the West post-WW2, especially with US mind control programs which had fascist science written all over them.

Given Salinger’s top-secret wartime experiences, some conspiracy theorists have connected the dots. They assert that he planted mind control triggers in The Catcher in the Rye using the advanced knowledge he was exposed to in his dealings with Nazi scientists. This theory suggests the book was written in such a way that it could be used in MK-Ultra and the CIA’s earlier mind control projects such as Project Artichoke.

These are wild theories indeed. However, given what we now know (and are still learning) about how advanced Nazi mind technologies were, and how much they shaped the modern US intelligence community, these theories should not be wholly dismissed.

Whatever the case, the actual reason for Salinger’s reclusiveness may have been because of what he knew, or what he had been forced to do, in this so-called deNazification process after WW2. This idea is potentially supported by Hamilton’s biography, which argues that Salinger had post-traumatic stress disorder due to wartime activities that left him a forever disturbed individual.

J.D. Salinger became a recluse

A reclusive J.D. Salinger in later years.

Seventeen frowned when she noticed the top button of her blouse was undone. Her gaze strayed to the copy of The Catcher in the Rye on her lap. The orphan had no recollection of picking up the book at any stage. In fact, she’d never even read it. All she knew about the novel was it had been found on the men behind the assassination and attempted assassination of John Lennon and Ronald Reagan respectively, and its author, J.D. Salinger, had significant ties to the CIA. The Ninth Orphan

More on the man who killed John Lennon

Mark David Chapman and that book…inseparable.

On February 9, 1981, The New York Times ran an article stating Mark David Chapman was preparing to plead insanity at the upcoming trial in which he was accused of murdering John Lennon. The article mentions Chapman had developed an unhealthy “obsession” with Catcher and “in a handwritten statement delivered to The New York Times last week, Mr. Chapman” had “urged everyone to read the novel, a copy of which was in his possession when he was arrested”.

Chapman had apparently told the NY Times that reading the book would “help many to understand what has happened”.

The newspaper also reported that the accused’s statement ended with: “My wish is for all of you to someday read ‘The Catcher in the Rye.’ All of my efforts will now be devoted toward this goal, for this extraordinary book holds many answers. My true hope is that in wanting to find these answers you will read ‘The Catcher in the Rye.’ Thank you.”

The accused’s statement was signed “Mark David Chapman – The Catcher in the Rye.”

During the trial that followed, Chapman continued to promote the book. At times he would open up a copy and begin reading intently for all to see the book’s cover. On other occasions he would stand up excitedly and shout to everyone in the court, imploring them to read the novel.

It also came out during the court case that shortly before the assassination Chapman would sit in his room chanting the mantra, “THE PHONY MUST DIE SAYS THE CATCHER IN THE RYE!” as well as “JOHN LENNON MUST DIE SAYS THE CATCHER IN THE RYE!”

These phrases are eerily similar to Sirhan Sirhan’s documented diary entries in which he repeatedly wrote “RFK MUST DIE!”

Another parallel is that the word phony in the aforementioned mantra was borrowed from Catcher, once again indicating that Chapman’s murder of Lennon was somehow inspired by the book.

There is also an urban legend which says John Lennon himself was in the middle of reading the novel the week he was killed. There’s no solid evidence to confirm this, and if Yoko Ono knows, she isn’t saying.

Jealous Guy: Lennon snapped in 1969, sporting his trademark beard

John Lennon…rumored to be reading Catcher.

What can be confirmed is Mark David Chapman’s ties with World Vision. As mentioned in chapter 23, it’s a little known fact that Chapman was a former World Vision employee and children’s counsellor who worked in refugee camps all over the world.Contrary to media reports, he was by all accounts formerly a good citizen who exhibited no signs of mental illness.

As some researchers have speculated,Chapman may have been drugged by CIA agents and forced into their MK-Ultra program while doing aid work for World Vision in Beirut. Some conspiracy theories claim this MK-Ultra program included setting up mind control triggers by repeating certain sentences from Catcher for long, sustained periods.

But that’s not where the World Vision link to Salinger’s novel, or its deadly aftermath, ends…

The Hinckley-Bush-Reagan connection

Surprisingly, World Vision crops up again with Reagan’s attempted assassin, John Hinckley, Jr., whose father, John Warnock Hinckley, Sr., was president of World Vision United States.

The gunman’s father was also a multi-millionaire Texas oilman and President and Chairman of the independent oil and gas exploration firm Vanderbilt Energy Corporation. Considering he belonged to such a wealthy and prominent family, it seems rather odd that John Hinckley, Jr. was always portrayed by the media as some kind of vagabond who did nothing but stalk Jodie Foster and read Catcher all day.

What was also rarely if ever reported was that Hinckley Sr. was a major financial contributor to the failed 1980 Presidential campaign of the Vice President, George H. W. Bush, the man who would have become President sooner had Reagan been killed in the assassination attempt.

But the Bush-Hinckley family ties don’t end there. Oh no, not by a long shot…

Hinckley’s older brother, Scott, had a dinner date scheduled at the home of Neil Bush, the Vice President’s son, the day after the assassination attempt on Reagan. A March 31, 1981 news headline by Associated Press confirmed this: Bush Son Had Dinner Plans With Hinckley Brother Before Shooting.

George H.W. Bush’s other son, George W. Bush, also admitted to journalists that he may have had dealings with Scott Hinckley who was Vice-President of Vanderbilt Energy, but could not remember either way.

Obviously this is all very circumstantial, but then again…What are the odds that the family of the convicted shooter of the President were intimately tied to the Vice President’s family and were also Texas oil tycoons who part-financed the Vice President’s unsuccessful presidential campaign against the President?

And why were so few of these facts ever reported by the mainstream media?

History of slavery: You have to go back six generations to find the ancestor that is directly linked to the present day George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush

George Bush Senior and Junior…discussing the Bush-Hinckley family ties maybe?

Some conspiracy theorists have asked if John Warnock Hinckley Jr.’s actions mirror the plot of Richard Condon’s The Manchurian Candidate? And if so, was The Catcher in the Rye used to transmit the appropriate assassination triggers?

In the book George Bush: The Unauthorized Biography, published in 2004 by Progressive Press, Webster Griffin Tarpley and Anton Chaitkin imply that at least the former may have been the case.

Tarpley and Chaitkin state, “For Bush, the vice presidency was not an end in itself, but merely another stage in the ascent towards the pinnacle of the federal bureaucracy, the White House. With the help of his Brown Brothers, Harriman/Skull and Bones network, Bush had now reached the point where but a single human life stood between him and the presidency … In the midst of the Bush-Baker cabal’s relentless drive to seize control over the Reagan administration, John Warnock Hinckley Jr. carried out his attempt to assassinate President Reagan”.

The writers continue by asking whether Hinckley was “part of a conspiracy, domestic or international? Not more than five hours after the attempt to kill Reagan, on the basis of the most fragmentary early reports, before Hinckley had been properly questioned, and before a full investigation had been carried out, a group of cabinet officers chaired by George Bush had ruled out a priori any conspiracy”.

And ever since, all levels of the US Government, from the White House and FBI down, have maintained that there was no conspiracy involved in the assassination attempt on President Reagan.

When one journalist put all these seemingly connected events to the White House, Bush spokeswoman Shirley M. Green replied on March 31, 1981 that it was all just “Bizarre happenstance, a weird coincidence.”

It’s also worth noting that none of the Bush family, not the Vice President or Neil Bush or George W. Bush, was ever questioned by the FBI regarding their string of connections with the Hinckley family. If a formal FBI investigation was conducted, you would assume interviewing Vice President Bush and his sons would have been a logical starting point.

Maybe the eighth grade pupil at Alice Deal Junior High School, in Washington D.C., accurately summarized the assassination attempt best when responding to a task set all the students the day after the assassination attempt. Asked to express their views on the incident, the pupil told teachers, “It is a plot by Vice President Bush to get into power. If Bush becomes President, the CIA would be in charge of the country.”

Perhaps the young Hinckley also accurately summarized the whole incident. Scribbled notes found in his cell during a random search described a political conspiracy involving either the Left or the Right and orchestrated to attempt to assassinate the President. Unfortunately, this potential evidence was never brought up in the court case.

Reporting on the trial, the media fixated on three points: Hinckley’s stalking of Jodie Foster, the defense team’s promotion of the insanity argument, and the fact that the first thing detectives saw when they busted in to Hinckley’s hotel room after the shooting was his copy of The Catcher in the Rye.

Formerly banned, now required reading

These days, Catcher is ‘required reading’ in most high school English courses in the US and throughout much of the Western world. This despite the fact it has been banned by various schools and libraries, and criticized by numerous parent and teacher groups as being immoral literature due to its use of profanity and themes of excessive rebellion and alienation.

The fact it’s now required reading has inspired some conspiracy theorists – most probably of the Tinfoil Hat variety – to envisage a grand conspiracy in which mind control is being conducted on a mass scale in order to corrupt, pacify or otherwise control today’s youth.

Reclusive Guns N’ Roses lead singer Axl Rose took part in an online chat on December 12, 2008 on the GNR fan community site. When a fan asked him about a song he’d written called Catcher N’ The Rye on GNR’s new album Chinese Democracy, Axl’s responses seem to indicate he believed the theory that the novel can incite violent acts when read by certain individuals.

“For me,” he said, “the song is inspired by what’s referred to sometimes as Holden Caulfield Syndrome …I feel there’s a possibility that how the writing is structured with the thinking of the main character could somehow re-program, for lack of a better word, some who may be a bit more vulnerable, with a skewed way of thinking.”

Axl also mentioned he felt that the novel is “utter garbage” and said he agrees “wholeheartedly that it should be discontinued as required reading in schools”.

This young lady may disagree with Axl’s comments.

The argument against the Catcher conspiracy

We concede that we and others may be reading too much into the murders that some connect with Salinger’s classic novel. It could be argued that, at best, those murders are only loosely related to Catcher for it was, after all, a critically acclaimed masterpiece and one of the biggest selling books of the 20th Century.

Given its worldwide popularity, the fact that the book was found in the possession of a few killers – a handful at most – could just be pure coincidence.

Today, if some new Presidential assassin or serial killer had a copy of The Da Vinci Code or a Harry Potter book in their possession, would anyone blink? And even though religious books such as the Bible, the Qur’an (Koran) and the Torah have inspired innumerable assassins, madmen and terrorists – some well known, some not – surely that doesn’t mean there are insidious mind control programs infused in their writings?

What about Mark David Chapman? we hear you ask.

Yes, the man was completely obsessed with the book, but then again so, too, were countless other (normal) young people around the world in the decades following its publication. Many commented they felt as if Holden Caulfield was voicing their own inner reality and the angers and frustrations they felt in their own lives. And for those who are insane, as Chapman appeared to end up, a work as brilliantly and intensely written as Salinger’s novel was bound to reach the darkest corners of their brains, encouraging those individuals take the story too literally, or out of context, or both.

People who are mentally ill often obsess over all kinds of artworks – such as Michael Jackson’s music, Stanley Kubrick’s movies or Andy Warhol’s paintings – believing there are dark messages embedded in those works, instructing them to kill. It’s simply a case of criminal minds latching on to warped ideas and dark concepts in popular culture. And certainly Catcher is not the only novel to inspire murders, and it won’t be the last.

As Aidan Doyle wrote on December 16, 2003 in a Salon.com article entitled When books kill: “A copy of ‘The Turner Diaries’ was found in Timothy McVeigh’s car when he was arrested.

The novel was written by a leader of the National Alliance and tells the story of a white supremacist group that overthrows the government and subsequently eradicates nonwhites as well as race traitors. The narrator destroys FBI headquarters by detonating a truck loaded with ammonium nitrate and fuel oil. McVeigh used a similar mechanism to destroy the federal building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people.”

The same article also mentions it’s not just books that have inspired killings. “A $246 million lawsuit was lodged against the makers of the game Grand Theft Auto III by the families of two people shot by teenagers allegedly inspired by the game. Such movies as ‘Natural Born Killers,’ ‘A Clockwork Orange’ and ‘Money Train’ have routinely been accused of inspiring copycat crimes.”

Primary image for Natural Born Killers

Natural Born Killers also blamed for copycat crimes.

It has been estimated more than 100,000,000 people have read Catcher. With only a few crazy incidents attributed to it, you could reasonably argue this is not a bad record and certainly isn’t enough to justify outlandish conspiracy theories.

#

As mentioned, the alleged conspiracy surrounding The Catcher in the Rye has already been studied ad nauseam and the general consensus by experts is that it is a mere coincidence that these criminals committed such horrific crimes after reading the book.

But how many of the so-called experts know about MK-Ultra and the highly documented history of mind control? And how many are aware of the intelligence community’s experiments proving Manchurian Candidates are indeed possible?

We’re certainly not implying we are experts, but it’s a fact that most who have analyzed Catcher conspiracy theories have been authorities in either literature or criminology with highly specific knowledge in their chosen fields. Perhaps to more accurately assess this subject a prerequisite would be to have a broader knowledge of such topics as the way intelligence agencies operate, the dark history of assassinations and suspicious lone gunmen, and Project Paperclip’s Americanized Nazis as well as understanding how advanced the science of mind control really is.

We ain’t saying Catcher is definitely a mind control mechanism for those who have been brainwashed by intelligence agencies. But at the very least, the book had an accidental and unintended influence on some of the most heinous and high profile crimes of the 20th Century. And to us that seems very convenient or coincidental or suspicious – take your pick.

Just like any good story, maybe there’s a few facts hidden within the fiction and a healthy dose of fiction buried amongst the facts. Perhaps J.D. Salinger never bothered to publicly comment on the crimes associated with his book as he liked the mystery that surrounded it.

And on that note let’s allow the man himself have the final word…

“It’s partly true, too, but it isn’t all true,” Salinger wrote in The Catcher in the Rye. “People always think something’s all true.”

Greenland is the setting for an important section of book three in our international thriller series The Orphan Trilogy. There’s a series of life-and-death action sequences in this northern outpost of Denmark as Nine, our hero, attempts to find his kidnapped son who he fears is being experimented on at a secret research facility.

We initially selected the enigmatic, mostly inhospitable and largely ice-covered landmass which, for some unknown reason, is called Greenland. It seemed an ideal place for the Splinter Civilization to house secret technologies and conduct medical experimentation on children – if indeed such a civilization exists. However, in the course of researching the icy subcontinent we were pleasantly surprised to discover a wide variety of unusual and unexplained events have occurred there throughout its colorful history. Events that have fueled many a conspiracy theory…

Re-evaluating what he knew about the base, the former operative was aware it was home to the 21st Space Wing’s global network of sensors that provided space surveillance and missile warning to the Air Force Space Command and the North American Aerospace Defence Command. It also served as a ballistic missile early warning site and since 2002 had been home to the 821st Air Base Group. The Orphan Uprising

Thulegate

In The Orphan Uprising, Nine arrives in disguise at Thule Air Base, the US Air Force’s northernmost base located as it is above the Arctic Circle in Greenland’s northwest, in search of his abducted son.

Home to the 21st Space Wing’s space surveillance and missile warning sensors, the Air Base has attracted its share of controversy – as has Thule itself with conspiracy theories dating back to ancient times.

Thule Air Base (above) in summer and (below) in winter.

The location’s name itself is shrouded in mystery. Various interpretations of Thule have confused it with other northern destinations including Iceland and Scandinavia, and in medieval times Thule was associated with distant places beyond the known world. So it’s ripe for conspiracy theories, mired as it is in ancient mythology.

Situated less than 1000 miles from the North Pole, Thule’s a magnet for you know who. (Our old mates the Tinfoil Hatters)! However, once in a blue moon, the Tinfoil Hat Network’s stalwarts promote some way-out conspiracy theory that turns out to be true; and Thule’s the scene of Thulegate, one of their most treasured conspiracies. Treasured because it miraculously ended up being proven true, also proving the old adage that if you take enough wild stabs in the dark, occasionally you’ll get lucky!

Tinfoil Hatters now rightfully refer to Thulegate as conspiracy fact. Yet still, sadly for them, few buy in to any of their other theories, including the Moon being manmade, the ruling elite are all reptiles, that germs do not exist, blah, blah, blah.

Thulegate relates to the documented January 1968 crash of an American B-52 nuclear bomber on the ice sheet near the Thule Air Base. Apparently, the bomber was carrying four nuclear warheads, which the Pentagon maintained were destroyed in the crash. However, a Daily Mail report (updated on November 11, 2008 in its Mail Online site) debunks this, confirming what conspiracy theorists had speculated all along – that one or more of the warheads hadn’t been destroyed.

The American B52 bomber and its nuclear arsenal…before the crash.

Excerpts from the Daily Mail report follow:

“Greenland is a self-governing province of Denmark, but the carrying of nuclear weapons over Danish territory was kept secret, according to the BBC investigation…One of the missions went wrong and a bomber crashed into the ice a few miles from the air base.

“A declassified US government video, obtained by the BBC, documents the clear-up and gives some idea of the scale of the operation.

“The Pentagon had maintained that all four weapons had been ‘destroyed’, but declassified documents obtained…reveal investigators realized only three of the weapons could be accounted for.”

The report continues, “The underwater search (for the missing weapon) was beset by technical problems…Eventually the search was abandoned.

“A nuclear scientist has told the Daily Mail: ‘We really don’t know what has happened to this bomb’.”

According to the ApacheClips.com military media site, “The incident caused controversy at the time and in the years since. It highlighted the risks Thule Air Base posed to Greenlanders from nuclear accidents and potential superpower conflicts.”

The ApacheClips.com article continues: “The accident…signaled the immediate end of the airborne alert program, which had become untenable because of the political and operational risks involved.

“Scott Sagan, a political science academic and writer, postulated that if the aircraft had crashed into Thule Air Base, the missile early warning system and the redundant warning aircraft would have been knocked out simultaneously, potentially leading NORAD to conclude incorrectly that a nuclear attack had started.”

So the B-52 incident turned out to be another good example of something that started out as a conspiracy theory and ended up as fact.

When a B-52 nuclear bomber crashed and burned on the ice near Thule Air Base in 1968, the Pentagon classified all documents relating to the crash. Since then, media reports on America’s northernmost Air Force base had been unaccountably few and far between. The Orphan Uprising

Project Iceworm

Many independent investigators believe Thulegate was the tip of the iceberg – please excuse the pun, but we couldn’t resist – in a large-scale Cold War nuclear program the US Military was conducting beneath Greenland’s surface.

Project Iceworm construction underway.

The ambitious program, which was apparently managed by the US Army, went by the codename Project Iceworm and involved the construction of a series of nuclear missile launch sites beneath the Greenland ice sheet and conveniently within striking distance of the Soviet Union.

These top-secret sites were constructed under the ice so that the Danish Government would remain unaware of them as America did not have permission to build nuclear missile sites in Greenland.

As covered in chapter 19, the global elite have numerous underground bases – some of them confirmed despite being off-limits to non-military personnel or to anyone beneath the highest levels of government. That confirmation has usually come via reluctant acknowledgement from the Military Industrial Complex, persistent investigative reporting by a handful of brave journalists or, last but certainly not least, publication of declassified documents.

This accounts for those clandestine subterranean bases we now know of. However, there are persistent rumors that hundreds more such secret underground facilities exist around the world.

Many conspiracy theorists believe the US Army had, or still has, several underground cities – yes cities – beneath the Greenland ice sheet where all manner of secret technologies are being developed and maintained. If there is a Splinter Civilization that has more advanced technologies than official science is aware of then the icy, inhospitable Danish-governed country with a population of less than 60,000 people would seem to the best place this side of the Moon for safekeeping of such technologies.

One of those underground sites whose existence has been confirmed is a former US Army facility in Greenland known as Camp Century, which was part of Project Iceworm and was also previously just a conspiracy theory. (It’s about here our Tinfoil Hat readers start cheering wildly)! The Camp Century site beneath the Greenland ice sheet was selected by US Army engineers in May, 1959. Construction began in 1960 and it was soon a fully-fledged subterranean city that ran entirely on nuclear power.

Constructing the reactor building at Camp Century.

Camp Century has long been declassified and is now an Arctic research facility. The US Army’s activities there were officially abandoned in 1966, reportedly due to the unstable conditions that existed beneath the ice. However, given the B-52 incident occurred only two years later, in 1968, a skeptic could be forgiven for linking it with Project Iceworm and also for wondering whether the project was actually axed.

Layout of Camp Century.

On arriving at Thule Air Base via Air Greenland and passing through the various US Air Force security checks, Nine’s first port of call was his guest house in the tiny settlement of Thule. Then, after checking in and taking delivery of a rental car, his next port of call, quite literally, was the nearby Port of Thule. Located as it was above the Arctic Circle, it was the world’s northernmost deep water port. And, like all of Greenland’s west coast ports and settlements, it was also ice-free in summer, which suited Nine just fine for what he was planning. The Orphan Uprising

Continuing with the Cold War theme, in an article headed US Army’s top secret Arctic city under the ice, Curezon.org claims, “It eventually came out that the ultimate objective of Camp Century was of placing medium-range missiles under the ice – close enough to Moscow to strike targets within the Soviet Union.”

Curezon also mentions a now declassified US Army film showing “the nuclear-powered construction process of Camp Century, beneath the ice of central Greenland”.

The article continues: “Details of the missile base project were classified for decades, first coming to light in January 1997, when the Danish Foreign Policy Institute (DUPI) was asked by the Danish Parliament to research the history of nuclear weapons in Greenland during the Thulegate scandal.

“A report confirmed that the U.S. stockpiled nuclear weapons in Greenland until 1965, contradicting assurances by Danish foreign minister Niels Helveg Petersen that the weapons were in Greenland’s airspace, but never on the ground. The DUPI report also revealed details of Project Iceworm, a hitherto secret United States Army plan to store up to 600 nuclear missiles under the Greenland ice cap…

“Danish workers involved in the clean-up operation claimed long-term health problems resulting from their exposure to the radiation.”

Incidentally, the declassified US army film referred to in the article is freely available to watch online, having been uploaded to various video sites.

In the comments section beneath one such website that posted video footage of Camp Century, one viewer wrote, “The machinery and the whole project makes me think of the Thunderbird animations.”

Who knows, maybe the underground facilities in the popular British science fiction TV series Thunderbirds were inspired by Camp Century or other similar confirmed or rumored subterranean bases of the global elite.

It’s unlikely any of us will ever know how far the Splinter Civilization’s rabbit holes extend beneath our feet. And whenever we see sprawling underground cities in sci-fi movies and television episodes, or read about them in novels, most of us still think, This plot sounds far-fetched or The scientific concepts are ridiculous. Right?

Why on earth Omega had chosen Thule as the location for one of its secret medical labs, Nine could only guess. He assumed its isolation was one reason. No doubt the security afforded by the Air Force base was another. The Orphan Uprising

The Thule Society

One of the oldest conspiracy theories relating to the name Thule dates back to The Oera Linda Book, a 19th Century manuscript written in Old Frisian and purported to have been compiled as long ago as AD 803. After being translated into German in the 1930’s, leading Nazi Party member Heinrich Himmler latched onto the book because of its apparent references to the origins of the Aryan race.

The Oera Linda Book…a favorite of Heinrich Himmler.

Infamous German occultist group the Thule Society, which was later absorbed into Hitler’s National Socialist German Workers Party, also accepted the book’s contents as absolute fact. The Thule Society’s followers believed in an ancient landmass known as Hyperborea, which they said was near the North Pole and was exactly where modern Greenland is. These Nazi mystics identified a place called Ultima Thule as the capital of this mythological and Atlantis-like continent of the Prehistoric World.

The translation of The Oera Linda Book has since been branded a hoax. Nevertheless, the book’s contents continue to be a subject for speculation.

The blog site TIA MYSOA (This Is Africa – My Simple Online Abode) reminds followers The Oera Linda Book became known as Himmler’s Bible and was also dubbed the Nordic Bible. It states: “Hoax or no hoax, this book articulates the first known example of the concept of root races, and I was quite surprised to read how accurate this old manuscript described a black maiden…by the name of Lyda…The description of the three earliest races, Lyda (black), Finda (yellow) and Frya (white) are provided in a section of the manuscript…”

Warning: If you are a member of the Tinfoil Hat Network, we strongly suggest you check that your hat is firmly attached to your head about now…

Often associated with the Thule Society is the Vril Society, another German occultist group said to comprise an alien super race known as Vril-ya whose intention was, or is, to join forces with superior beings they believe reside below ground on planet Earth. Believers insist the end goal for the Vril-ya and their subterranean allies is to rule the planet’s surface one day.

Meanwhile, the Tinfoil Hatters would have us believe the Vril Society developed Vril-powered spacecraft that the Germans used to explore space and to transport fleeing Nazis to the Moon and beyond.

According to the SabotageTimes.com site, “People fully bought into this work of fiction as being gospel truth… They met in secret and reportedly performed bizarre séance-like rituals in a bid to awaken the Vril people and gain control of their powerful elixirs, all in a bid to help them take over the world.”

The SabotageTimes report continues, “Although farfetched, when the war ended hundreds of Nazi blueprints were found by the allies, some actually detailed how to build propulsion aircrafts shaped like flying saucers.”

The report concludes, “Captured Nazi turned American scientist Wernher von Braun said when asked about how the Nazis became so advanced: ‘We had help from them’ and pointed upwards.”

If the quote is accurate, it’s not to be sneezed at. Don’t forget von Braun is the Father of Rocket Science referred to in chapter 12 – the same gentleman America awarded the National Medal of Science to in 1975.

It just goes to show that in amongst the flood of extravagant claims made by hardcore conspiracy theorists little gems can be found that at the very least warrant further thought if not further investigation.

Nine was also aware of the strange events said to have occurred at or near Thule over the years. Conspiracy theories abounded. In the early Twentieth Century, the tiny settlement inspired the underground Nazi occult organization known as the Thule Society. Its membershipwas rumored to include Adolf Hitler and numerous other Nazi leaders. The Orphan Uprising

Korean War veterans experimented on?

In our research of various theories concerning Greenland, we came across one conspiracy author who claimed that in the early 1950’s American soldierswounded during the Korean War were secretly hospitalized in undisclosed bases in Greenland. According to the author, this was because the US Government considered its citizens weren’t ready to see battle casualties so soon after WW2.

The same author also asserts those veterans were experimented on, resulting in the deaths of some.

However, we’ve searched far and wide and can find no credible sources confirming, or even suggesting, that wounded Korean War vets were taken to Greenland instead of being repatriated (to the US). So it’s entirely possible this theory could come under the category of a desperate conspiracy author running out of ideas and fabricating shocking theories just to keep selling books.

On the other hand, who knows? Stranger and darker things have happened in the history of governments, and that includes the US Government. If it is true it wouldn’t be the first time American soldiers, and indeed soldiers of many other nations, have been experimented on without their consent.

“Before anyone passes judgment, may I remind you, we are in the Arctic.” –Fox Mulder (played by David Duchovny) in Season 1, Episode 7 of The X-Files.

Alien artifacts in the ice

The first season of The X-Files television series features an episode called Ice, which is set in the Arctic. Delta Air Park, in Vancouver, Canada, was selected by location scouts as the venue for filming because its flat and tundra-like terrain resembles the Arctic environment. At least it does through the lens of a camera.

X-Files - Wallpaper Ice by RoxRio

An impressive 10 million American viewers watched the episode when it first aired in November, 1993. The high-rating, well-reviewed episode has the series’ leads David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, investigating the mysterious deaths of research scientists in the Arctic. The pair soon discover evidence of extraterrestrial, parasitic organisms that take over their hosts and cause those infected to commit extremely violent acts.

A true story, of sorts, in Greenland was reportedly the inspiration for the episode’s writers Glen Morgan and James Wong who conjured up the plot in association with the series’ creator Chris Carter. Morgan said a Science News article about scientists in “Greenland who dug something 250,000 years old out of the ice” gave him the idea.

Of course, if anything like that TV episode actually occurred and alien origins were discovered beneath Greenland’s ice sheet, the powers that be are not saying.

Various similarly-themed conspiracy theories reference abandoned ET civilizations discovered in Greenland by the global elite. Warning: more puns ahead… However, all these theories have grown cold, or are completely frozen, due to a total lack of evidence.

A hollow conspiracy theory

We doubt there are any gems to be found in the following theory, though it has a surprisingly high number of adherents. It was drawn to our attention by The Atlantean Conspiracy website, which refers to “that mother of all conspiracy theories – the Hollow Earth Theory”.

A February 2013 article on the site refers to “various testimonies” of the likes of “Admiral Byrd’s trips to the poles” and other explorers’ accounts of the land beyond the poles as “evidence pointing towards a Hollow Earth theory”.

The article states: “Nowadays only government-approved teams are allowed anywhere near the poles, but historically almost every explorer who has traveled to the poles has recorded that as you get closer, it gets warmer, the snow and ice disappear, and greenery and wild-life reappear. Even modern-day explorers continue finding driftwood, pollen, animals, and insects the closer they get to the poles.

“In Greenland animals should migrate south for the winter, but in fact they all migrate north, and northern winds in Greenland are actually warmer than Southern winds during winter. In Northern Russia there are constantly large animal bones and driftwood coming ashore from the North as well. The poles are no-fly zones and compasses start going haywire as soon as explorers sail/fly near them.

“During earthquakes the Earth behaves much more like a hollow body than a solid one, ringing like a bell with after-shocks spreading out like ripples in a pond. This behavior is indicative of a Hollow Earth and something which plate tectonics theory falls short of adequately explaining.”

The article invites readers to “view some of the evidence” in the videos it provides links to.

The idea of an alien civilization living inside the earth is a favorite of the Tinfoil Hat Network. Nazi mystics were also believers in the theory, and Lord Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s 1871 novel The Coming Race was said to be Adolf Hitler’s favorite book. The early science fiction story describes a mysterious free energy source called Vril and also describes in great detail the life of inhabitants living in the so-called Hollow Earth.

These days, given science has progressed and we now know so much more about the planet’s properties and nature, Hollow Earth believers are held in much the same regard as Flat Earth subscribers.

#

We’ve only scratched the surface of conspiracy theories involving Greenland. Many of them get even zanier than the ones covered in this chapter.

Other Greenland conspiracy theories presented as fact by the Tinfoil Hat Network include: the landmass being the real Atlantis; factories near the North pole with three-foot tall alien workers who manufacture human sweat which nourishes them; Adolf Hitler being alive and well and living in a Nazi-populated city beneath Greenland’s ice sheet; and Greenland’s flag being a secret Illuminati symbol.

Seriously, does anyone believe this stuff?

mexico_drug_war3

In book two in our international thriller series The Orphan Trilogy we highlight the direct link many commentators and researchers are convinced exists between the Kosovo War and heroin.

They’d arranged to meet with an Omegan mole who worked in the Clinton administration. He was helping them with a new Omega Agency operation involving the Kosovo War, which had just broken out in Europe. Naylor and his cronies were seeking to use Kosovo as a transit route for Afghan heroin bound for EU countries. Despite the official news stories being circulated by mainstream media, Omega knew the extremely lucrative heroin trade was behind the war.The Orphan Factory

The above excerpt from The Orphan Factory was inspired in part by a discussion rumored to have taken place at the 1996 Bilderberg Group conference in Toronto, Canada. Its confirmed elite attendees included David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger and Margaret Thatcher, and the discussion was said to have ended with the decision to create the Kosovo War.

If true, we can only imagine how the discussion went…

Bilderberger #1 may have said in passing that another war was needed to support the Military Industrial Complex.

Bilderberger #2 may have mentioned that Kosovo had significant mineral reserves – since valued at more than 13 billion Euros – including silver, zinc, cobalt, lead, bauxite and lignite worth tapping into.

Bilderberger #3 may have replied that the value of those reserves paled into insignificance next to the value of oil reserves of Middle East countries, and the gold and diamond reserves of several African countries.

“Yeah, true, we gotta think big,” Bilderberger #4 may have added.

After some head scratching, Bilderberger #5 may have reminded his or her fellow Bilderbergers that Kosovo lay smack bang in the middle of the infamous Balkan Route through which billions of dollars of heroin passed annually into western Europe from Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan. And his or her associates may have quickly deduced that whilst the value of Kosovo’s mineral resources may not warrant going to war over, the value of its drug trade – then believed to be worth around US$300 billion – was something else entirely.

That imaginary discussion highlights one of the most disturbing conspiracy theories surrounding illicit drugs – in particular heroin and opium – and the disturbing role these drugs have played in recent wars.

Click on the slide!

The infamous Balkan Route – a narcotic superhighway.

The drug behind a hundred wars

Dope. Tar. White Nurse. Black Pearl. Hero. Big H. Snow. Boy. Junk. Smack.

These are just a few examples of the seemingly inexhaustible slang terms people use when referring to heroin. Some, like China White or Mexican Mud, reflect location; others, like Dragon or White Girl, reflect popular songs while most are simply insider terms for those in the know.

It’s worth noting the difference between heroin and opium because the two are often confused and because both are often referred to in the conflicts we wish to highlight – namely the Kosovo and the Afghanistan wars.

Opium comes from the opium poppy (also known as Papaver Somniferum in scientific circles), whereas heroin is a semi-synthetic opioid analgesic, not an opiate.

Most will be familiar with the Opium Wars that date back to the late 1830’s and involved Britain illegally trafficking opium into China and making enormous financial sums as a result.

What’s less known is that heroin has been a cause of many a conflict – between countries, tribes and drug cartels – since it was first produced on a commercial scale as a wonder drug in the late 1890’s.

The Kosovo War

The brief but bloody Kosovo War was fought over 1998-99 between the ruling Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) who, you may recall, received military support from NATO. Essentially, it was a conflict between the Orthodox Serbians and the Kosovo-Albanians.

One of the enduring images from the Kosovo War.

Armed with weapons smuggled in from Albania, the KLA attacked Yugoslav authorities in Kosovo, sparking a campaign of retribution by Serbs, which resulted in the confirmed deaths of many hundreds of KLA sympathizers – fighters and civilians – and a mass exodus of refugees.

NATO then lent its weight to the conflict by participating in an aerial bombardment of Yugoslavia, attracting widespread controversy and condemnation, and prompting more than a few conspiracy theories. Even China chipped in, claiming the US was flexing its military muscle and expanding its presence and influence in Europe.

Some critics of the NATO campaign, which occurred during President Bill Clinton’s tenure, even labeled it a diversionary tactic to deflect attention from Clinton’s recent embarrassing dalliance with Monica Lewinsky in the White House.

All of these accusations were met with denials by the Clinton Administration, although the denials rang hollow in the face of the UN Security Council’s refusal to sanction NATO’s aggressive military involvement in the conflict.

A refugee camp struggles to cope during the Kosovo War.

“How many wars do you want to have in your lifetime? How many bombs are you going to drop? I just think it looks like we’ve become a warrior nation … We are dropping bombs on crowded cities at night where old people and children are sleeping, and we’re watching it on CNN … What are we doing with all these wars? How are we safer? … You can’t use an anti-war platform to get elected. So maybe that explains why it’s so easy for us to go to war. Norman Solomon has written a book War Made Easy. Essentially he says, if the president of the United States wants a war, he can have one. I believe that totally. It’s very, very hard to dissent.”–Phil Donahue, interview on Piers Morgan Tonight that aired on CNN January 7, 2012

The heroin connection

It’s the role heroin played in the Kosovo War that has intrigued many independent researchers.

Kosovo lies in the center of the Balkan Route through which nearly all Afghan heroin (the world’s most popular variety) passes through on its way to greater Europe and beyond, including the United States. The extraordinary value of the Balkans’ drug trade has been estimated to be worth anywhere from US$500 billion to one trillion dollars annually.

File:Kosovo uranium NATO bombing1999.png

There’s speculation the Western-backed KLA was heavily involved in this profitable business, adding fuel to the theory that the desire to control heroin trafficking was the underlying cause of the Kosovo War.

Certainly, Kosovo Albanians are prime movers in the region’s illegal drug trade – second only to the Turkish mafia, according to US Drug Enforcement Agency officials who, in 2000, estimated that Kosovo Albanians controlled nearly half of Europe’s heroin. Those same officials said as much as 6 tonnes of heroin passed through the Balkan Route every month.

In an article by The Guardian dated March 13, 2000, columnist Maggie O’Kane said international agencies fighting the drug trade were warning that Kosovo had become “a smuggler’s paradise” and “Nato-led forces, struggling to keep the peace a year after the war, have no mandate to fight drug traffickers…who are running the Balkan route with complete freedom”.

In the same article, a former Yugoslav narcotics official described Kosovo as “the Colombia of Europe”. The official says, “The Kosovo mafia has been smuggling heroin since the mid-1980’s. But since the Kosovo War, they have come into their own.”

Perhaps the foremost authority on drug wars is Canadian economist Dr. Michel Chossudovsky, author of The New World Order, whose extensive commentaries clearly convey that “the expensive Yugoslav conflict” was “directly linked to the multi-billion drug war”.

Michel Chossudovsky

Dr. Chossudovsky.

In an exclusive interview dated June 30, 1999 in cannabisculture.com, Dr. Chossudovsky says, “Drugs serve political interests … They help finance covert intelligence operations … the Vietnam War, the generals in Haiti, the Contras, Colombian paramilitaries … Many groups are funded with drug money that serve geopolitical interests. And there is usually covert support provided by the CIA to these groups.

“It is well documented the KLA is financed by the drug trade. It also has links to the CIA, German intelligence and Islamic terrorist organizations. So Islamic terrorist organizations the West has labeled as its enemies are co-financing the KLA alongside NATO. It’s a totally absurd situation”.

Dr. Chossudovsky also alludes to drug profits being laundered to buy arms in post-war Kosovo.

Operation Enduring Freedom aka Operation Opium

Dr. Chossudovsky also believes heroin is a primary motivating factor in the war in Afghanistan – the war the American administration calls Operation Enduring Freedom. In an article published in RonPaulForums.com and dated June 25, 2013, he says, “Since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, the Golden Crescent opium trade has soared.”

Click on the slide!

The documented Northern Route for drug trafficking out of Afghanistan.

In the same article, Dr. Chossudovsky says in the previous four years there was a surge in Afghan opium production. He quotes UNODC (the UN Office on Drugs and Crime) figures which reveal that poppy cultivation in Afghanistan in 2012 covered an area of more than 154,000 hectares; he also quotes a UNODC spokesperson as confirming in 2013 that opium production is heading toward record levels.

Dr. Chossudovsky is also extensively quoted in the GlobalResearch.com site, which provides some of the most credible, in depth research and reporting on the Afghan drug trade.

Afghan farmers collected raw opium in a poppy field.

Under the tell-all heading “The Spoils of War: Afghanistan’s Multibillion Dollar Heroin Trade”, Global Research carries yet another article by Dr. Chossudovsky. It was first published in May 2005. In it he states:

“Heroin is a multi-billion dollar business supported by powerful interests…One of the ‘hidden’ objectives of the war (in Afghanistan) was precisely to restore the CIA-sponsored drug trade to its historical levels and exert direct control over the drug routes.

“Immediately following the October 2001 invasion, Opium markets were restored. By early 2002, the opium price…was almost 10 times higher than in 2000.”

Readers are reminded that “prior to the Soviet-Afghan War (1979-1989) opium production in Afghanistan and Pakistan was directed to small regional markets” and “there was no local production of heroin.”

Dr. Chossudovsky claims “the Afghan narcotics economy was a carefully designed project of the CIA, supported by US foreign policy”.

History lends some weight to the doctor’s claims. Out of the chaos that followed the Soviet-Afghan War, the ruling Taliban decreed that opium production be significantly curbed. That ruling was followed by another ordering that opium cultivation cease totally.

A solitary US Marine patrols a poppy field in Afghanistan.

There has been considerable speculation that America’s invasion of Afghanistan was prompted by this development. Whether true or not, one result of that military action is not in doubt: the opium ban was quickly lifted and Afghan opium production rapidly rose to record levels.

Of course, this could be passed off as coincidental. An innocent result of an invasion that saw Afghanistan’s war lords back in control and opium growth thriving once again. Indeed, that’s the official line and that’s how many perceive it.

However, if commentators and researchers are united about any one thing it’s that the CIA is inexorably linked to Afghanistan’s illicit drug trade and has been, in the words of one commentator, “since the agency funded Taliban fighters to oppose the Soviets”.

(Profiting from) The War on Drugs

The motivations for creating these drug wars, if indeed that’s what they are, is the massive profits the global elite can derive from their well-documented drug trafficking.

Which begs the question: why are drugs so profitable? Essentially, many argue, it’s because they are illegal. By making drugs a criminal enterprise, it creates an enormous black market economy where drugs fetch far greater prices than they would if legal.

Many authors and independent media outlets have repeatedly suggested the War on Drugs is a money-making scheme and doesn’t actually prevent drug usage or reduce the number of addicts. They point to countries like Portugal, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, which have all decriminalized drug usage to varying degrees and have subsequently experienced a decrease in the amount of drug-related crime and a reduction in the incidence of drug addiction.

In an article dated January 23, 2014 and headed World leaders slam war on drugs as ‘a disaster’, CNBC comments that the “decades-long war on drugs has failed and the world’s lawmakers need to consider decriminalization”.

Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan is quoted in the article as saying the War on Drugs “has been a disaster and has inflicted enormous harm … Drug use is not down. It’s time for a different approach. Drugs have destroyed many people, and the wrong government and policies have destroyed many people”.

Drug war casualties (above and below)…no end in sight.

Possibly interrelated to the theory that drugs are prohibited to fuel the highly profitable international drug trade, is the privatization of prisons that has occurred in America and throughout much of the Western world in recent decades. Something that started happening around the same time the War on Drugs began.

Privatized prisons could be viewed as an adjunct to the previous chapter, which covered secret prisons. In the West at least, these privately-owned, non-government facilities can’t be classified as secret prisons in that they are not off-the-grid or unknown to the government. However, according to conspiracy theorists, they are secretive in so far as they don’t disclose their true agendas.

Once prisons are privatized, they need prisoners to make a buck or they’ll go out of business. That’s the economic reality. Some critics of the privatized prisons business claim that it’s open to corruption and suggest that private companies running these prisons have been known to collaborate quietly with law enforcement officials to ensure their prisons are full of inmates.

The obvious candidates to target – after murderers, rapists and drug-pushers of course – are drug-users, according to those who promote this theory. If true, then the War on Drugs may also be a scam designed to put users in prison and keep them there.

Remember, it’s a fact that a large percentage of prisoners around the world have committed victimless crimes involving drugs. And like the War on Drugs itself, the privatized prison system is highly profitable.

Could it be this war and these privatized prisons are some kind of two-fold, money-making scheme of the elite? Or are we getting a bit paranoid here?

Private prisons like this one need prisoners to make a buck.

“I’ve seen people I love die from this disease (drug addiction). Now we have a chance to at least demonstrate that this isn’t what people feel about this issue anymore … People don’t want drugs to be illegal anymore, they don’t want their heads of politicians buried in the sand.” –Russell Brand, from television interview on February 13, 2014 on the UK’s Channel 4.

If this entire conspiracy theory on drug wars is wrong, fictitious, over-egged or, heaven forbid, just plain loony, another scenario is very possible: this scenario is that drugs are simply one of the many fortuitous and spontaneous spoils of war, and while the global elite may not actually be starting wars to financially benefit from drug-trafficking they sure as hell do alright out of it.

Even in mineral-rich and oil-rich war-torn regions like the Middle East, illicit drugs and the huge profits to be made from them are a nice added bonus, wouldn’t you agree?

And even if there is no ulterior motive surrounding the War on Drugs – a very big IF – the bottom line is the drug prohibition program hasn’t remotely worked; the international drug trade is expanding, not contracting, and drug usage is increasing worldwide.

We don’t remotely support drug use. The horrors that illicit drugs inflict on individuals and on society in general are there for all to see.

However, the problem is one that may be with us forever because it does seem that drugs and profits cannot be separated, and history shows that where large profits are to be made, corruption flourishes.

Meanwhile, excuse us for one moment. It’s time for us to take our medication again!

Mountain Retreat was the code-name for the secret CIA prison Naylor had instructed Seventeen to transfer Isabelle to. It was situated in the isolated and mountainous Canillo region, in the country of Andorra. The highly secretive Andorran facility was part of the global internment network that had been established after 9/11 to deal with suspected terrorists. Even after the bad press received in 2005, when it was leaked to the world’s media that the CIA had secret prisons all over Europe, new prisons, or black sites, had been set up.The Ninth Orphan

Beyond the Wire

If there is a Splinter Civilization on the planet right now, in addition to having suppressed technologies, underground bases and trillions of dollars in black budgets at their disposal, they may also have secret prisons around the world. These could be used to incarcerate any who threaten to expose this breakaway group’s existence or otherwise thwart their New World Order plans.

Those who buy into this mega conspiracy believe it was uncovered, in part at least, when mainstream media outlets reported that the CIA covertly operates numerous prisons all over Europe that are in defiance of EU laws in every respect.

Many believe those prisons that have been exposed to date are merely the tip of the iceberg. They also warn there are signs the global elite could be building thousands of such incarceration centers – referred to as concentration camps by the most outspoken critics – in preparation for some kind of anarchistic or apocalyptic scenario.

Sounds a bit tinfoil hattish, right? Er…yes we’d have to agree!

Mind you, what do we mere mortals really know about what the global elite get up to when they’re not attending Bilderberg conferences or sailing their luxury yachts? Whenever any of us receive small fragments of news, like intelligence agencies managing illegal prisons in Europe, we assume that’s the extent of their unlawful activities and that justice will prevail now that such practices have been exposed.

But could that be a naïve assumption?

Seventeen knew why Naylor wanted Isabelle at this particular black site. Hidden amongst snow-covered mountains, the modern, nondescript Mountain Retreat facility was regarded as the most secure and secretive CIA prison on earth. As the van arrived at the detention center, Seventeen went through a strict security check to confirm she was a CIA employee. Once screened, she was cleared to drive Isabelle inside. The Ninth Orphan

The CIA’s global internment network

Much changed after 9/11. Some said the world would never be the same again – and for many that was true…

Wars broke out, international travel became problematic, civil liberties were reined in, and words and phrases like rendition, extraordinary rendition, black sites, WMD, weapons of mass destruction, ghost detainees, unlawful enemy combatants, Guantanamo Bay and the War on Terror came into common usage.

FIGURE 3: ANONYMOUS IMAGE SENT TO MAINSTREAM NEWS ORGANIZATIONS IN 2002.

‘Ghost detainees’ at a secret detention center.

The term black sites intrigued us. So we looked into these and were alarmed by what we discovered.

In military jargon, a black site is where a classified and unacknowledged defence project, or black project, is conducted. Such sites have earned notoriety following revelations that the CIA operates black sites for the purpose of detaining (illegally in the opinion of many) so-called unlawful enemy combatants – ostensibly to aid its War on Terror.

Mounting mainstream media speculation on the existence of such sites back in the mid-2000’s undoubtedly forced the hand of President George W. Bush who announced in September 2006 that secret CIA prisons did exist. He also confirmed that many of the detainees held in those prisons were to be transferred to GuantanamoBay.

In The Ninth Orphan, our heroine Isabelle is transferred to a black site that may or may not exist in the tiny European principality of Andorra, high in the Pyrenees Mountains between Spain and France.

While the Andorra site was a figment of our collective imagination, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility it could have existed for similar black sites are believed by many to have sprung up post 9/11 throughout Europe and on other continents.

Countries involved in the CIA’s extraordinary rendition and detention program.

A report by The Washington Post dated January 23, 2014 caught our eye. Here’s an excerpt from that report:

“The CIA prison in Poland was arguably the most important of all the black sites created by the agency after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. It was the first of a trio in Europe that housed the initial wave of accused Sept. 11 conspirators, and it was where Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the self-declared mastermind of the attacks, was waterboarded 183 times after his capture.

“Much about the creation and operation of the CIA’s prison at a base in one of the young democracies of Central Europe remains cloaked in mystery, matters that the U.S. government has classified as state secrets”.

As long ago as 2005, The Washington Post reported that “The hidden global internment network is a central element in the CIA’s unconventional war on terrorism. It depends on the cooperation of foreign intelligence services, and on keeping even basic information about the system secret from the public, foreign officials and nearly all members of Congress charged with overseeing the CIA’s covert actions”.

Poland, the UK and Romania are just three of the European countries black site watchers have named among the 30 countries rumored to hold (between them) scores of detainees on behalf of the US. Those same sources claim American ships have also been used as floating prisons, boosting the likely number of black sites to more than 90 worldwide.

Add to that an EU report stating the CIA operated over 1200 flights ferrying alleged terrorist suspects to and from “detention centers” in Europe, and it’s a no-brainer that EU countries have played their part in this game.

Combatting a dearth of information

Exactly how the game is played is open to conjecture as there is no single source of reliable information. Not outside of the CIA at least, and the agency ain’t talking – not to us anyway.

From all reports it appears there could be hundreds of detainees at any given time – the majority being ghost detainees apprehended in Europe and transported to other countries as part of an extraordinary rendition process.

A detainee gets the treatment.

Most interest, however, surrounds those classed as unlawful enemy combatants – the most important of whom are detained at sites that are totally off the grid. Those not so important have been transferred by the CIA to friendly agencies in other countries.

Commonly acknowledged estimates of numbers of detainees could be conservative in the extreme if unsubstantiated media reports are correct. For example, in The Observor, June 13, 2004, South East Asia correspondent Jason Burk reports: “The United States government, in conjunction with key allies, is running an ‘invisible’ network of prisons and detention centres into which thousands of suspects have disappeared without trace since the ‘war on terror’ began”.

The report goes on to mention “secret operations that by-pass extradition laws” and adds that the “astonishing traffic has seen many, including British citizens, sent from the West to countries where they can be tortured to extract information”.

In an item published on PBS.org, reporter Stephen Grey, author of Ghost Plane: The True Story of the CIA Rendition and Torture Program, says the US Government needs to account for the fate of more than 500 prisoners handed over to the United States since 9/11 by Pakistan. “All were rendered into U.S. custody without any extradition procedures,” he says.

As an aside, in the same article Grey claims the CIA’s rendition program is nothing new and has been going on for decades.

“Rendition began in 1883 when Frederick Ker was kidnapped in Peru by the Pinkerton Detective Agency and rendered back to Chicago to face trial for grand larceny,” he says. “The tactic was endorsed by the Supreme Court… These renditions…were renditions to courts of law…very different from the CIA’s current covert program of extraordinary rendition, in which terror suspects are sent not to justice but into the hands of rough allies.”

Prisoners being flown to  Guantanamo.

After the negative press that has surrounded GuantanamoBay, horror stories have emerged of prolonged and intentional use of torture and abuse of detainees. Released prisoners claim they were subjected to many forms of torture, ranging from beatings and sleep deprivation to sexual abuse and temperature extremes. Add to this suicides and attempted suicides by detainees, and you get the idea it’s a sorry state of affairs.

Detainees at the not-so-secret US detention facility at Guantanamo Bay.

The allegations of torture and abuse at GuantanamoBay and other black sites have been given credence by official reports from respectable organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross and Amnesty International. However, it’s clear much information is being withheld from the public.

“Miss Alleget, I’m not going to kid you.” Seventeen pulled up a chair and sat only a meter from Isabelle. “This place makes Guantanamo Bay seem like paradise. But if you co-operate and answer all my questions, I won’t have to torture you.” The Ninth Orphan

Other black sites

As mentioned, there are theories that black sites go far beyond the clandestine CIA prisons, and secret prisons can be found all over America and, as also mentioned, throughout the world.

Satellite Black Site Image

Many Americans will be familiar with the Federal Emergency Management Agency conspiracy theory that insists FEMA has set up hundreds of secret prisons – also referred to by some as concentration camps – throughout the US to detain anyone deemed to present a threat to national security.

This theory may seem extreme to the common individual, but conspiracy theorists assure anyone who will listen that they have uncovered enough evidence to prove concentration camps are being built on American soil and are being managed by the military.

Apparently, these clandestine facilities will be used to detain dissenting American citizens once the one world government officially swings into action. But not everyone agrees…

According to RationalWiki.org, “FEMA concentration camps exist in the mind of a particularly loopy bunch of conspiracy theorists who believe that mass internment facilities have been built across the continental United States by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, in preparation for a future declaration of martial law.”

RationalWiki goes on to say: “There are several videos purporting to show footage of the camps, as well as shots of ominous-looking fences and webpages listing locations of over 800 camps, allegedly all fully guarded and staffed full-time despite being completely empty.”

One of the videos RationalWiki undoubtedly refers to is an episode Governor Jesse Ventura made for his Conspiracy Theory television series. Shot in 2010 and titled Police State FEMA Camps,it was unaccountably pulled off air, but (at the time of writing) it can still be viewed on YouTube. It highlights so-called fusion centers and FEMA camps which, according to the program, have been set up “to imprison innocent Americans” who have been spied on and rounded up by “the secret government”.

An offical US prison supposedly converted to a FEMA center.

Comparisons with Nazi death camps

Locations of alleged FEMA camps in North America.

One of several informants Ventura’s team interviews describes fusion centers as “command centers for a network of concentration camps – similar to the Nazi concentration camps – for US citizens who don’t toe the line”. This is supported by footage of several modern establishments that do look suspiciously like concentration camps, complete with tight security and razor wire fences.

As the program’s voice-over would have us believe, “Jesse Ventura uncovers a plot to force martial law on law abiding citizens, replace 50 states with 10 giant prison sectors, fill up hundreds of concentration camps with people like you and me, and pull the trigger with a disease pandemic.”

In support of these assertions, Ventura and his TV crew visit one establishment where, from the cover of trees, hundreds of new plastic coffins can be seen stockpiled row upon row inside the perimeter fence, ostensibly in preparation for one of the pandemics referred to above. Soon after the arrival of Ventura’s team, trucks arrive and start transporting the coffins away, leaving viewers to draw their own conclusion.

The coffins, incidentally, are referred to by officialdom as “plastic grave-liners”.

femacoffin

Plastic coffins or grave-liners…stockpiled for what?

The fact that this particular episode of Conspiracy Theory was pulled off air, allegedly in response to Government pressure, would seem to lend some weight to the message Ventura was trying to get across. Certainly, it does give pause for thought.

HALInterestingly, the name Halliburton keeps cropping up in the video in relation to the coffins and the fusion centers that feature in it. Halliburton Company, of course, is the multinational corporation that George H.W. Bush, Dick Cheney and George W. Bush are connected with. Yes the same corporation involved in controversies dating back to the Iraq War. Anyway, Halliburton is named as the designer of the fusion centers, and one of its (unnamed) associate companies is said to have supplied the coffins.

Ventura interviews retired FBI agent Mike German who is especially critical of the fusion centers and their management. A 16-year veteran of the FBI, where he served as a Special Agent in domestic terrorism, bank fraud and public corruption investigations, German says the centers have no oversight or guidelines, and he agrees with Ventura that their management and purpose are undemocratic.

“Police State” episode of hit Ventura show covering FEMA camps pulled from air 0

The episode of Jesse Ventura’s Conspiracy Theory series that was pulled off air.

It should be noted that not all conspiracy theorists have bought in to Governor Ventura’s assertions regarding the FEMA camps and fusion centers.

TopSecretWriters.com’s Ryan Dube calls Ventura’s assertions fear-mongering. Dube says, “True researchers not only track down leads in…documents and by conducting interviews, but more importantly they do not jump to conclusions based on shabby evidence. True conspiracy researchers remain honest with readers and viewers regarding what is actually known, and what remains unknown. Unfortunately, these are lessons that Jesse Ventura…never learned.”

Dube describes as “all lies” claims that the centers are spying on every American who speaks out against the government and that huge piles of “coffins” are being stored for future mass genocides. “It does legitimate conspiracy researchers…a great disservice to spread fear-mongering and disinformation in an effort to increase ratings and create misdirected fear among the American population,” he says.

Using documentation TopSecretWriters obtained, apparently on request, from the Department of Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis, Dube attempts to debunk core theories that Ventura highlights in the program.

“In fact, the effort by the DHS in creating these centers,” according to Dube, “was to allow local law enforcement to respond more quickly whenever someone is spotted casing out a bridge, a bank, or a high rise building as part of planning for another terrorist attack.”

Given Homeland Security would be first in the firing line if Governor Ventura’s allegations about the real purpose of the centers and camps were ever proven correct, we are not sure if the department is the most reliable source of information in this debate. Nevertheless, we accede that many Americans – possibly most – will accept Homeland Security’s word as gospel on this issue.

Regardless, images of prison-like camps and stockpiled items that look suspiciously like plastic coffins would appear to undermine the official explanation.

Seventeen didn’t even glance at any of the detainees as she pushed Isabelle along. Having worked as an interrogator and torturer at several CIA prisons around the world, she knew all about the secret internment program. She understood some of the detainees were major terrorist suspects while others were considered less important, having limited intelligence value and little direct involvement in terrorism. Isabelle had been classified as among the latter group, the cover story being that she was the former lover of a low-level Al Qaeda figure. This allowed the CIA and Omega to detain the Frenchwoman legally. The Ninth Orphan

Martial Law in effect

On February 3, 2014 The Huffington Post reported, “U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia told law students at the University of Hawaii on Monday that the nation’s highest court was wrong to uphold the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, but he wouldn’t be surprised if the court issued a similar ruling during a future conflict”.

Flashback to Japanese-American detainees interned in California during WW2.

The article goes on to mention that Scalia told staff and students at the university “you are kidding yourself if you think the same thing will not happen again”.

Inspired by Scalia’s comments, Aaron Dykes and Melissa Melton, creators of alternative news site TruthstreamMedia.com, wrote in an article dated February 5, 2014, “Martial Law has already been established on paper, and a Supreme Court Justice now warns that the nation’s highest court would back executive orders to intern Americans, as it did during WWII.”

The TruthstreamMedia.com article asks how quickly would the Obama Administration or a future President use the powers of Executive Order to hold Americans in actual camps in the event of future crisis – be it natural disaster, false flag terrorism, economic collapse or a large-scale war.

“This is particularly pertinent,” Dykes and Melton continue, “given that acts of legislation such as H.R. 645 have been introduced to establish ‘National Emergency Centers’ for times of crisis and that hundreds of facilities in major metropolitan areas across the country have been designated for use as FEMA camps and readied for mass population processing and control… these authors have covered several of these facilities and relevant drills, and the intent is becoming very clear.”

Formalities over, Seventeen wheeled the prisoner along a corridor which took them past still more cells. Isabelle saw Muslim detainees dressed in orange overalls. Some were praying, others were being interrogated by CIA personnel. She caught a glimpse of a bearded Arab man with fresh wounds on his bare chest. Isabelle sensed this prison was one big torture chamber. She shuddered as the thought of what her abductor and the guards had in store for her. The Ninth Orphan

So, who do you believe? The “particularly loopy bunch of conspiracy theorists” RationalWiki refers to, or the politicians who either deny existence of the FEMA camps or assure us their existence is solely to safeguard the interests of law abiding citizens?

Tough choice isn’t it? Not sure the word of any of the above can be fully trusted.

Where do we stand on this? we hear you ask. (Our hearing is highly attuned to such questions even if they’re only whispered in your thoughts)!

On the question of FEMA camps specifically, we’d have to say on the strength of our research there’s no doubt they exist, but their true purpose remains debatable. Certainly, for Americans at least, there are sufficient rumors and innuendo to warrant a degree of nervousness, caution and alertness.

On the question of secret prisons, or so-called black sites, since the veil of secrecy was lifted – in part anyway – off various CIA prisons in Europe, and their true purpose was officially acknowledged, there’s no doubting the existence of these sites. What’s still in doubt is the number of black sites, their locations and how many suspects are detained within their walls.

Britain to compensate former Guantanamo Bay detainees alleging abuse

There’s no doubting the existence of black sites like this one. The question is…how many?

As for other secret prisons, clandestine containment centers, illegal holding pens – call them what you will – around the world, it would be naïve to deny their existence. We need only consider the fate of political dissidents in countries like North Korea to know there are probably hundreds if not thousands of secret prisons around the globe.

Just between us, we are quietly hoping we don’t end up in such an establishment as a result of the release of this book into the public domain! In case we do, please put in a good word for us. Assure our jailers we are only members of that particularly loopy bunch of conspiracy theorists we referred to earlier and are a threat to no-one but ourselves! We have a long list of friends – and an even longer list of former friends – who can vouch for that.

Political assassinations are probably much more common than we realize. Take for example the 2013 news reports that Hugo Chávez, President of Venezuela and long-time perceived enemy of the West, had died of cancer.

Could Chávez’s death have been a creative form of assassination as his supporters have alleged?

The US weekly newspaper American Free Press poses that exact question in an article dated May 20, 2013 in which it suggests Chávez may have been “deliberately infected with a carcinogenic agent”.

Hugo Chávez (02-04-2010).jpg

Chavez…murdered?

Conservative estimates suggest the CIA has assassinated, or attempted to assassinate, more than 50 foreign leaders over the years, so why not Chávez? And how many leaders of other nations died suddenly, or under unexplained circumstances, before they could implement their long-planned policies?

“How many more political murders disguised as heart attacks, suicides, cancers, drug overdoses? How many plane and car crashes will occur before they are exposed for what they are?”–Monologue delivered by Kevin Costner and written by Oliver Stone in JFK (1991).

From our research we’d have to say it seems distinctly possible that many of the most influential and socially-driven individuals of the past half-century or so died as a result of carefully crafted assassination plots. It’s hard to deny that an alarming number of those who stood for peace, not war, were either killed by deranged lone gunmen or else died in suspicious circumstances. We refer of course to the likes of JFK, Martin Luther King, Benazir Bhutto, Bobby Kennedy and John Lennon, to name but a few.

Could the long list of victims even include the mother of an heir to the British Royal throne?

Death of a princess

In 1997, in a dark tunnel in Paris, France, Princess Diana along with her partner Dodi Fayed were killed in a horrific car crash. Numerous inquiries and investigations all determined the crash was an accident and not a murder, but conspiracy theories stick to Diana’s death as much as they do to JFK’s assassination.

The aftermath of the car crash that ended Princess Diana’s life.

And much like JFK’s death, alternative theories are not just believed by conspiracy theorists or those on the fringes of society. In fact, various polls conducted by the likes of the BBC, CNN and CBS have consistently shown that a quarter to one third of Britons and Americans believe the princess’s death was no accident.

Dodi Fayed’s father, Egyptian business magnate Mohamed Al Fayed, also believes Diana, as well as his son, were murdered in that tunnel in Paris.

In an article in The Guardian dated February 19, 2008 and headlined Nazi Philip wanted Diana dead, Fayed tells inquest, the article begins, “Mohamed Al Fayed branded Prince Philip a “Nazi” and a “racist” in the high court today as he detailed his belief that his son Dodi and Diana, Princess of Wales, were “murdered” in a conspiracy initiated by the royal family and carried out with the involvement of Tony Blair, the security services and others”.

The Harrods store-owner informed the inquest Diana had told him she was pregnant and had agreed to marry his son, according to the same article.

Mohamed Al Fayed’s comments lend weight to what is probably the most widely believed conspiracy theory on Diana’s death: that the British royal family had Diana murdered to avoid a marriage between the mother of the future King of England and an Egyptian Muslim, not to mention the arrival of a Muslim-British Royal baby.

It was never confirmed if Diana was pregnant or not as, strangely, no autopsy was conducted.

As mentioned in chapter 8, Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell stated the Queen had once warned him, “There are powers at work in this country of which we have no knowledge”. Burrell also told an inquest in 1998 that an unnamed British royal had once warned Diana, “You need to be discreet, even in your own home, because they are listening to you all of the time”.

And then in 2003, Burrell published one of Diana’s letters in the Daily Mirror newspaper, revealing that she wrote, “This particular phase in my life is the most dangerous. Xxxxxxx (name redacted) is planning an accident in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for Charles to marry.”

And those words proved to be eerily prophetic in terms of the way she died, if not the reasons why.

The Daily Mirror reported that Diana had actually named the person (Xxxxxxx) she believed was plotting against her, but that the newspaper decided not to publish the individual’s identity for fear of a lawsuit.

Piers Morgan, then editor of the Daily Mirror, said of Diana’s predictive letter, “I think everybody who thought it was accident will think to themselves, well hang on a second, could it be that these wild allegations have any substance?”

Also in chapter 8 we refer to rumored dirty businesses the House of Windsor engages in, such as the arms trade and landmine sales. The latter, in particular, has been a focal point for conspiracy theorists; the fact that Princess Diana fought tirelessly against landmines through her charitable work for the anti-landmine organization the Halo Trust put her at risk and may explain why she was murdered, according to these theories.

However, there’s no proof that the Windsors profit or profited from landmines or other criminal enterprises, so this conspiracy theory seems much more speculative than some others surrounding Diana’s death.

One of the other more out there conspiracy theories is that Osama bin Laden was responsible for killing Diana. This theory suggests the terrorist leader had gotten wind of the Princess’ pregnancy and upcoming marriage to Dodi and was concerned she’d be a bad influence on Muslim women.

There appear to be seemingly infinite plot holes in this particular theory. Plot holes such as how did Bin Laden know Diana was pregnant and why would he even care given he was reportedly so busy blowing up the West.

Besides these questions, the most important question relating to Bin Laden is: Was the terrorist leader still alive in 1997?

Osama Bin Laden

Osama bin Laden in 2010

Officially, Bin Laden died in 2011 in Pakistan – but was that really him? Or was Bin Laden just a fabricated and much-needed bad guy manufactured by the Military Industrial Complex to enable it to legitimately wage the so-called War on Terror?

In the FBI’s Vault records, the following is mentioned on the Muslim leader’s file: “Usama (or Osama) Bin Laden, founder of the al Qaeda terrorist organization, was born in Saudi Arabia in 1957. On March 10, 1984, Bin Laden and others killed two German nationals. On March 16, 1998, authorities in Tripoli issued an arrest warrant for him for murder and illegal possession of firearms. Bin Laden was also wanted for the August 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. He was killed by U.S. forces in May 2011.”

Furthermore, FBI records clearly label Bin Laden as the mastermind of 9/11, and as a result he inherited the mantel of Most Wanted during the War on Terror.

To most in the West – mainstream media included – the US Navy Seals’ termination of Bin Laden in Pakistan is where the terrorist leader’s story ends, but not for any conspiracy theorist worth his or her salt. They would argue there are too many unanswered questions and cute coincidences surrounding the man’s death – and surrounding his life, too, for that matter.

And conspiracy theorists aren’t the only ones raising questions. Media reports throughout the Middle East, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan have been awash with quotes from locals purporting to know the truth about Bin Laden. These reports speculate everything from his dying years earlier, even before 9/11, to still being alive and free today.

The Express Tribune, of Pakistan, reported that polls showed two-thirds of Pakistanis did not believe US reports stating Navy Seals had assassinated Bin Laden, and less than a quarter believed he was responsible for the 2001 terrorist acts on American soil.

More recently, Western media has joined in the speculation. For example, leading UK newspaper The Daily Mail ran an article on February 12, 2014 headed, U.S. special forces ordered the destruction of Osama bin Laden’s death photos two weeks after top secret seek and destroy mission to kill him. And The Wall Street Journal reported that an Egyptian bank manager formerly associated with the Muslim extremist claimed to be certain Bin Laden had died many years before the US announced they’d killed him.

Several prominent American celebrities have also publicly voiced their skepticism surrounding US claims regarding Bin Laden’s demise.

Bin Laden watches TV in his Pakistani safehouse.

Shortly after Bin Laden’s death was announced, former US Navy Seal Jesse Ventura made an interesting observation in a television interview that aired on CNN in June 2011. He reminded viewers of earlier reports stating “Bin Laden was on a dialysis machine 10 years ago.” Ventura added, “Experts have said the disease he suffered from is generally fatal within two years. How did he manage to survive 10?”

And back in 2007, American hip-hop artist and film star Mos Def appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher where he called Bin Laden a “boogeyman” and implied his whole existence was nothing more than a fabrication by the US Government to blame 9/11 on.

But let’s return to the crux of the story…After more than a decade of failing to find Bin Laden, suddenly he’s tracked, located and then killed? All in one evening? And on top of that, there’s not one shred of evidence to prove any of this occurred?

File:CIA aerial view Osama bin Laden compound Abbottabad.jpg

An aerial view of Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan (above) and the compound up close (below).

File:Osama bin Laden compound2.jpg

As President Obama and his team of intelligence advisors watched real-time footage of Bin Laden’s termination in the comfort of the White House’s situation room, it was reported the then-director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, Michael Leiter, was first to speak. Apparently, Leiter said, “Holy shit!”

That’s not all he said, but bear with us. We just want to draw out the suspense a little.

“I don’t need facial recognition,” Leiter reportedly added. “We just killed Bin Laden!”

So clearly, nobody on American soil knew for a fact it was Bin Laden.

What about in Pakistan then? Surely, someone confirmed they’d just taken out the most wanted man on the planet?

Well, you’d think so, wouldn’t you? But this is where it gets a little murky.

After what seemed a surprisingly short period of time, a White House spokesman informed the world’s media that Bin Laden’s body had been flown to the USS Carl Vinson aircraft-carrier in the Arabian Sea where it (the body) was cast overboard in a weighted bag. The spokesman said this was all done “in conformance with Islamic precepts and practices”.

What the…?

Did we hear that right? Instead of keeping evidence in conformance with Western precepts and practices, the United States of America vetoed its own laws and diligently adhered to the customs and religious rituals of the world’s most wanted terrorist and those of the country that harbored him?

Again: What the…?

Remember, the bodies of Saddam Hussein’s sons, Uday and Qusay, were kept for 11 days before finally being buried. America didn’t go out of its way to follow Islamic protocols on that occasion, and nobody in the West complained about that.

But wait, it gets stranger still…

obama, may 1, 2011

The Obama Administration released an image (above) to the media showing President Obama, Hillary Clinton and other members of the National Security team watching the raid live. According to the Administration, the footage came from a camera attached to a Navy Seal’s helmet. However, this was contradicted when CIA director Leon Panetta emphatically stated the feed had gone dead “for around 20 to 25 minutes” during the raid.

If the CIA director is correct, does that mean the photo of Obama, Clinton and others was staged in order to sell a story? What other conclusion could be drawn?

American anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed on duty in Iraq, also questioned how the US had matched Bin Laden’s DNA with a member of the terrorist’s family in less than 24 hours. “The only proof of Osama being dead again that we were offered,” Sheehan wrote on her Facebook page as CNN reported on May 5, 2011, “was Obama telling us that there was a DNA match between the man killed by the Navy SEALs and OBL. Even if it is possible to get DNA done so quickly, and the regime did have bin Laden DNA lying around a lab somewhere — where is the empirical proof?”

Cindy Sheehan at White House.jpg

Sheehan concluded her Facebook post, “I am sorry, but if you believe the newest death of OBL, you’re stupid.”

Wikipedia accurately summarizes the persistent conspiracy theory surrounding the terrorist leader as follows: “Doubts about bin Laden’s death were fueled by the U.S. military’s disposal of his body at sea,the decision to not release any photographic or DNA evidence of bin Laden’s death to the public, the contradicting accounts of the incident (with the official story on the raid appearing to change or directly contradict previous assertions),and the 25-minute blackout during the raid on bin Laden’s compound during which a live feed from cameras mounted on the helmets of the U.S. special forces was cut off”.

Maybe all this smoke around Bin Laden’s demise doesn’t indicate a fire. And maybe all the perceived plot holes were caused by an unfortunate series of coincidences and misunderstandings – the type that lead to conspiracy theories blossoming out of nothing.

Hmmm…Those are big maybes.

MLK

File:Martin Luther King - March on Washington.jpg

On April 4, 1968, civil rights leader Martin Luther King (MLK) was shot dead in Memphis, Tennessee. After a large-scale international investigation, small-time criminal and WW2 war veteran James Earl Ray was captured and charged with the murder. Ray entered a guilty plea and on March 10, 1969 he was convicted for the murder and sentenced to 99 years.

So that’s it? How can anyone create a conspiracy theory on this case when the convicted murderer pleaded guilty, we hear you ask?

Well, it’s complicated. Ain’t it always! And numerous unanswered questions remain.

For example, why did Memphis police withdraw MLK’s police protection the day before he was killed? This despite the civil rights activist having received more than 50 death threats and being the known target of many groups all over America.

Also, James Earl Ray later recanted his confession and attempted to gain a new trial. Like Lee Harvey Oswald, he claimed he was a patsy.

Need more convincing evidence to support this conspiracy theory? Don’t worry, it’s coming, but we like to release it slowly…again, to build the tension.

Even the 1977-78 House Select Committee on Assassinations found there was a “likelihood” that Ray did not act alone. This supports the contention of many that there was a major conspiracy to murder MLK. The House also discussed whether the CIA had been involved in the murder as the agency’s antagonism toward him was well documented.

Besides the CIA, the African-American’s long list of enemies included no less than FBI director J. Edgar Hoover who is said to have hated MLK’s guts.

In 1993, a surprising twist occurred when Loyd Jowers, owner of the Memphis bar opposite the motel where MLK was shot, made a confession of sorts. Jowers told ABC TV that he’d been asked – by Memphis police as well as government agents – to aid the planned assassination.

Perhaps most tellingly, MLK’s family never believed James Earl Ray was responsible for the murder. King’s wife Coretta Scott King and their son Dexter Scott King are on record as saying they believe in a far-reaching assassination conspiracy involving the FBI, the CIA, the US Army and even President Johnson.

Dexter met with James Earl Ray in prison and believed him to be innocent. He pushed for a retrial, but Ray died the following year (1998) of Hepatitis C before any retrial could take place.

Below: MLK (center) shortly before the fatal gunshot.

On the night of MLK’s death, Robert F. Kennedy (RFK), New York’s then Senator who was on the US Presidency campaign trail, chose to deliver the sad news to the people of Indianapolis in person.

The Indianapolis police department warned RFK they wouldn’t be able to provide adequate protection should the crowd riot, which they felt likely given he’d be speaking in an African-American neighborhood.

RFK was unfazed. He delivered a profound speech to the people of Indianapolis in which he shared his own personal sufferings following the assassination of his brother JFK. He also spoke of the need to follow in Martin Luther King’s footsteps.

“What we need in the United States is not division,” RFK said. “What we need in the United States is not hatred. What we need in the United States is not violence and lawlessness, but is love and wisdom and compassion toward one another, a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country, whether they be white or whether they be black.”

After RFK’s heartfelt speech that evening, Indianapolis was quiet and mourned MLK’s passing in peace while major cities throughout America experienced a wave of riots.

Two months after giving that speech, RFK was also assassinated.

“RFK must die”

It seems likely MK-Ultra or a Manchurian Candidate, or possibly both, may have been involved in the 1968 assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, the US Presidential candidate most political analysts agree would have been elected President had he lived.

As mentioned earlier, The Orphan Factory climaxes with a political assassination in the Amazon jungle. Nine and Seventeen, the orphan-operatives charged with carrying out the assassination, tell themselves over and over in their own minds, “Quamina Ezekiel must die.” They are not sure why they’re repeating this phrase to themselves; the implication is they’re under the influence of mind control.

In the writing of that sequence, we include mind control triggers based on alternative theories surrounding some of the most well-known lone gunmen of the 20th Century. But more than any other real-world assassination, this section of our novel was directly inspired by reports of RFK’s convicted killer, Sirhan Sirhan.

By all accounts, on the fateful evening of June 5, 1968, the Palestinian-Jordanian assassin appeared to be in a hypnotic state at the scene of the crime – the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Many believe Sirhan Sirhan was a Manchurian Candidate diligently following instructions his conscious mind was not even aware of.

The prevailing professional opinion is RFK’s assassin has never been able to remember anything of that night – not entering the hotel, not the killing itself and not leaving the hotel in handcuffs. Nothing.

Apparently, Sirhan Sirhan’s’s only vague memory fragment, if it can be described as that, was said to be a vision of a typewriter he remembered observing all night long as it automatically typed a series of orders for him to follow.

All the evidence at hand seems to indicate Sirhan Sirhan was a brainwashed assassin or, at the very least, he was in a hypnotized state when he pulled the trigger of his .22 caliber revolver.

We refer to his memory blackouts; the reports of multiple witnesses claiming he looked like he was in “a trance”; the psychiatrist who testified at the ensuing court case that Sirhan Sirhan was in a trance state on the night of the crime; and especially the diaries found in his home by the LAPD – diaries whose pages were filled with Sirhan’s scribbled handwriting.

Over and over, the words “RFK must die” filled the pages of those diaries. Handwriting analysis indicated the writing was automatic writing, meaning Sirhan Sirhan was not conscious of what he was writing.

WK.0103.Getty.08

RFK and that moment of horror.

Another curious fact supporting the hypnotism and mind control theory was that the Jordanian passport-holder had earlier joined the Rosicrucians, an occult group also known as the Ancient Mystical Order of the Rose Cross. When several psychiatrists assessed him to be in a hypnotized state after the assassination, Sirhan Sirhan’s Rosicrucian membership was treated by many as suspicious, especially as trance and hypnotism are a known part of the group’s teachings.

Defence attorney Dr. Bernard Diamond tried to dismiss his client’s undeniable hypnotized state by claiming Sirhan Sirhan must have hypnotized himself.

If the assassin was a Manchurian Candidate, the range of suspects could include anyone from the CIA or the Mafia to occultists or the Military Industrial Complex. Many believe the latter to be the culprit, especially as Kennedy had stated he would immediately end the Vietnam War were he to become President.

In a 2011 parole hearing, Sirhan Sirhan’s new lawyer, Dr. William Pepper, said his client had been “hypno programmed” and he alluded to the Manchurian Candidate theory.

Seventeen trained the rifle’s telescopic sight on the wind flags in the compound and was relieved to see they barely fluttered. The air was mercifully still. That was important to her. She was very aware wind made a sniper’s task all the more difficult. A strong or swirling wind could turn a normally straightforward kill shot into a lottery. The Orphan Factory

In book two of our international thriller series The Orphan Trilogy, two orphan-operatives are tasked as young adults with carrying out a political assassination deep in Guyana’s Amazon rainforest. There’s much at stake: a successful mission will enable the global elite to control the country’s natural resources.

Ezekiel’s head was in the center of the crosshairs of Seventeen’s telescopic sight. As she prepared for the shot, the only sound she could hear was Kentbridge’s voice in her mind. Her mentor sounded like a broken record. Quamina Ezekiel must die. Quamina Ezekiel must die. Quamina Ezekiel must die. –The Orphan Factory

The Smiling Pope

Pope John Paul I (Albino Luciani).jpg

Pope John Paul I, who was nicknamed the Smiling Pope due to his forever-cheerful demeanor, was elected the Catholic Pope on August 26, 1978. Just 33 days later, at 5am on September 28, John Paul I was found dead, marking the end of one of the shortest reigns in papal history.

Initially, the Vatican stated his body was discovered by papal secretaries, and that John Paul I was found propped up in bed still holding a copy of Thomas Kempis’ book, Imitation of Christ, which he’d apparently been reading. Then the Vatican’s story suddenly changed. They now said their first statement had in fact been wrong and John Paul I was actually discovered by a nun.

What was also strange in regard to the death of the Smiling Pope was the speed of events that unfolded afterwards. Not long after the nun apparently found John Paul I, a papal doctor declared the Pope had died of a heart attack, and that was that; by 5.15pm that same day, the Vatican’s embalmers arrived on the scene and immediately began work on the corpse before any autopsy could be done.

If you think all this sounds worthy of a Dan Brown novel, you’re not alone.

Conspiracy theories abound on John Paul I’s death. Possible conspirators include international banksters operating within the Vatican Bank, Freemasons and even the Vatican itself. In fact, that’s the most common theory – that it was an inside job.

Despite his constant smile, Pope John Paul I was apparently hell-bent on reforming the Vatican, and many have argued the Catholic powers that be were simply protecting their position by assassinating him.

Top of the Smiling Pope’s to-do list was said to have been fixing the large scale corruption he believed existed within the Vatican Bank. The same religious financial institution which only a few decades earlier had lucrative collaborations with Benito Mussolini’s fascist regime and Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Party, and had strayed into many other areas not generally associated with the Holy Spirit, was about to be brought into line.

According to this murder theory, Vatican banksters weren’t too keen on being reformed. Nor did they resonate with the possibility of being forced to confess their sins, so they sent the Pope to an early grave.

In a case of circumstantial evidence, the President of the Vatican Bank in 1978 was American archbishop Paul Marcinkus who just happened to be seen walking briskly through the Vatican at dawn and around the exact time Pope John Paul I had died. That could obviously be a coincidence, but then again Marcinkus wasn’t known for early morning walks.

Conspiracy theorists also say the Pope was assassinated by non-money men in the Vatican for other planned radical reforms, including allowing for Catholics around the world to practice contraception.

If Pope John Paul I didn’t die of natural causes, the common consensus between researchers and even many Catholics is that there are more than enough dark factions operating within the Vatican to have carried out such a murder.

“It’s difficult to believe that the death was natural,” said an aide to the French Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, “considering all the creatures of the devil who inhabit the Vatican.”

Hell, if American Presidents can be assassinated by their own countrymen while in office, is it really so hard to believe a Catholic Pope could be killed by members of the Vatican?

She couldn’t even hear Kentbridge’s voice now. All she could hear was her beating heart. She emptied her lungs of air then, between heartbeats, gently squeezed the trigger. The shot shattered the silence. Staring through his binoculars, Nine waited for what seemed an eternity before he saw the results of Seventeen’s shot. In fact it was only two seconds, maybe three. The target’s head seemed to explode, like a ripe melon. “Target is down!” he exclaimed as Ezekiel fell to the ground.–The Orphan Factory

Marilyn Monroe

Intimate photos of Marilyn Monroe show her love of food

Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe was found dead on August 4, 1962 with enough drugs in her bloodstream to kill 15 individuals, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner who also declared her death a suicide. Or, more accurately, Dr. Thomas Noguchi wrote “probably suicide” on the coroner’s report he filed.

The world famous sex symbol’s demise has attracted almost as many conspiracy theories as have the deaths of her reported lovers JFK and RFK. Some argue suicide does not make sense considering Monroe was about to reunite with baseball star and first husband Joe DiMaggio who was said to be the love of her life.

One of the many mysteries surrounding Monroe’s death was the amount of time it took for anybody to alert the police. The nearest police station to her home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, was only three miles away and yet the police weren’t summoned until the following day (August 5) at 4.30am – a full six hours after Monroe’s publicist and other associates had been called to the house and found her dead.

On arrival at the film star’s residence, one policeman reportedly took one look at the pill bottles neatly arranged next to the bed, as well as the perfectly aligned position of Monroe’s body on the bed, and said it was “the most obviously staged death I have ever seen.”

In other oddities, the housekeeper had already removed all of the deceased’s bed linen by the time the police arrived; all Marilyn’s diaries had mysteriously vanished; despite all the pill bottles by her bed, an autopsy revealed her stomach contained no tablet residue whatsoever; and perhaps most alarmingly, her body was covered in bruises.

According to conspiracy theorists, Monroe didn’t commit suicide, but was killed by global elitists for knowing too much. The sex symbol’s affairs with both JFK and RFK have been well-documented and some say the Mafia, who financially backed the Kennedy family, were responsible for killing her because she’d become an embarrassment to President Kennedy. CIA memos and FBI records since leaked and/or declassified appear to confirm she may have been killed for knowing too much.

Is a real sex tape with Marilyn Monroe and the Kennedys about to be exposed?

Marilyn and the Kennedys…forever linked.

In the end though, Monroe’s death remains a mystery and we are unlikely to ever know with absolute certainty how she died.

As Donald Wolfe, author of The Last Days of Marilyn Monroe, said, “People don’t really want to know what actually happened to her. I think they would prefer the mystery, because what really happened to her is a rather dark story”.

John Lennon

JohnLennonpeace.jpg

Most people old enough remember exactly where they were when they heard the news that John Lennon was shot dead in New York City on December 8, 1980. The murderer was Mark David Chapman – yet another lone gunman who stood glassy-eyed at the crime scene waiting for the police to arrive. A witness to the shooting asked him if he was aware what he’d just done. “I just shot John Lennon,” Chapman calmly replied.

In the court case that followed, Chapman’s defence team included psychiatrist Dr. Bernard Diamond. Recognize that name? That’s right, he’s the very same psychiatrist who assessed Sirhan Sirhan’s mental state and, as per his assessment of RFK’s assassin, Dr. Diamond stated Chapman was completely insane. Little mention was made of the fact that Chapman was a former World Vision employee who worked as a children’s counsellor in refugee camps in Asia and the Middle East.

Author Fenton Bresler put forward the theory in his book Who Killed John Lennon? that while Chapman was working in Beirut he fell into the orbit of CIA agents who drugged and brainwashed him as part of the ongoing MK-Ultra program.

What is known is shortly after beginning his charity work in Beirut, Chapman began to exhibit mental illness and was hospitalized as a result. Who he associated with from that point on is not known.

Assuming Chapman was yet another Manchurian Candidate and Lennon wasn’t killed randomly, then who on earth would have wanted to kill the peace-loving singer?

Most conspiracy theorists and many researchers point the finger at the US Government for singer-songwriter Lennon was a known threat to the political order of that time. This threat was primarily due to two reasons: his fearless opinions that he gave freely to the press and the sheer size of his following, which was almost unprecedented.

FBI records and other Government files on Lennon indicate the Establishment viewed him as a very dangerous activist. For example, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover personally wrote on Lennon’s file: “ALL EXTREMISTS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED DANGEROUS.”

Another such file said the ex-Beatle, who by then was a US resident, was able to “draw one million anti-war protestors in any given city in 24 hours”. That is some serious influence, and judging by the declassified files it’s obvious the Military Industrial Complex viewed Lennon as a potential stumbling block to their plans for future wars.

Sean Lennon, the son of John and Yoko, told the New Yorker in April 1998 that his father “was dangerous to the government” and “If he had said ‘Bomb the White House tomorrow,’ there would have been 10,000 people who would have done it. These pacifist revolutionaries are historically killed by the government”.

The only thing counting against this whole premise is that Lennon was killed in 1980 – long after the likes of JFK, RFK, MLK and others were killed and long after the civil unrest of the 1960’s and early 1970’s had faded. It was a different political and social climate by then with less foreign wars and less volatility within America. Some have even argued that Lennon’s star power was waning, at least slightly, by 1980.

Of course, it’s not known what Lennon was planning at the time of his death, and for all anyone knows the authorities may have gotten wind of some radical peace movement he was hatching.

To add yet another curiosity to the mix, while Chapman patiently waited for the police to arrive and arrest him, he stood at the scene of the crime reading a copy of The Catcher in the Rye. Many conspiracy theorists believe that finding this particular book in the hands of an assassin is no mere coincidence. Regardless, it must have been a macabre sight to see Lennon lying dead on the ground with his murderer standing over him happily reading J.D. Salinger’s classic novel. (See chapter 27 for more mysteries surrounding The Catcher in the Rye).

November 22, 1963. Dallas, Texas.

Of all conspiracy theories, the cover-up after JFK’s assassination in Dallas, Texas, is one that nearly everyone believes.

All the evidence screams foul play – from eye witness testimonies contradicting the official report to the ridiculous Magic Bullet explanation, the suspected murders of numerous witnesses and suspects, the Dallas doctors’ conflicting reports on the body and the official Government line. Not to mention Lee Harvey Oswald’s still classified 1962 tax return, something many researchers believe can be attributed to the fact that Oswald was receiving US Government cheques and was on their payroll.

But really, what is there to say about JFK’s assassination that hasn’t been said before? It’s the mother of all conspiracies and has spawned a million theories. We certainly won’t add to them, except to say the official explanation provided by the US Government seems about as realistic as the plot of a bad B-movie.

In the interests of doing some serious investigative reporting – finally, we hear you say! – we uncovered these immortal words uttered by action movie star Bruce Willis in May 2007 to Vanity Fair: “They still haven’t caught the guy that killed Kennedy. I’ll get killed for saying this, but I’m pretty sure those guys are still in power, in some form … The entire government of the United States was co-opted.”

Yippee ki yay, Mister Willis, yippee ki yay!

Okay, that’s enough investigative reporting for the moment.

“It would certainly be interesting to know what the CIA knew about Oswald six weeks before the assassination, but the contents of this particular message never reached the Warren Commission and remain a complete mystery.” –Jim Garrison, former District Attorney of Orleans Parish, Louisiana.

As many a Tinfoil Hatter has pointed out over the years, the most infamous assassins of the 20th Century all had three names, including Lee Harvey Oswald, Mark David Chapman, James Earl Ray. What about Sirhan Sirhan, we hear you ask? Him too, actually, as his full name, which was rarely reported by the media, was Sirhan Bashira Sirhan.

So what does this three-name assassin point prove? Absolutely nothing, of course.

Remember, the hallmark of a good conspiracy theory is it cannot be proven! It’s a weird coincidence nevertheless. And coincidences seem to be the norm when it comes to the deaths of the most famous, influential and politically-threatening figures of recent decades…

Ongoing conflicts had made exploitation of coltan ore problematic, and much of it was mined illegally and smuggled out of the country by militias from Rwanda and other neighboring countries. As a result, Congolese coltan represented only about a tenth of the world’s total production even though the DRC was believed to have seventy percent of known coltan reserves. The Orphan Uprising

The DRC…rich in minerals yet one of the poorest nations on earth.

In book three of The Orphan Trilogy, Nine (aka Sebastian) has reason to cross Zambia’s northern border into the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) – previously and variously known as the Belgian Congo, Congo Free State, Congo-Leopoldville, Congo-Kinshasa and Zaire – in central Africa.

Nine’s target is a coltan refinery owned and operated by American conglomerate Carmel Corporation. The corporation is a fictitious entity, but the precious metallic ore known as coltan – official name columbite-tantalite – is very real.

This precious ore is found in large quantities in the DRC’s disputed eastern regions. When refined, the result is metallic tantalum, a heat-resistant powder capable of holding a high electrical charge – properties that are essential for the creation of electronic elements known as capacitors.

These capacitors are included in the manufacture of mobile phones, digital cameras, laptop computers and in communications technology generally, making coltan an indispensable part of the burgeoning and extraordinarily profitable communications and technology sectors. Hence its value.

DRC’s estimated mineral wealth US$24 trillion

As chance would have it, the DRC is believed to have seventy to eighty per cent of known coltan reserves worldwide. It also has around one third of the world’s known diamond reserves and is rich in other precious metals, too. With reserves of untapped mineral deposits estimated at US$24 trillion, it’s little wonder the DRC is considered by some to be one of the wealthiest countries in the world, if not the wealthiest, in terms of natural resources.

Now here’s the rub: the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been beset by war and is one of the most violent, unstable and poverty stricken nations on the planet.

In an article on the All Africa online news site dated November 21, 2013, the Congolese war (which incorporates the back-to-back First and Second Congo Wars) is said to have “killed over six million people since 1996,” and “is the deadliest conflict in the world since the Second World War. If you add the number of deaths in Darfur, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Rwanda over the same period, it would still not equal the millions who have died in the Democratic Republic of Congo”.

Scenes like this all too common throughout the African continent.

Fatalities are just one side of the conflict, however, with rape also being used as a “weapon of war”, the article goes on to mention. Women and young girls raped during the conflict are estimated to number in the hundreds of thousands.

It’s a sad truth that conflict over control of the DRC’s mineral wealth accounts for much of the violence. Hence the term conflict minerals used to describe coltan, diamonds, gold, copper, cobalt and other precious minerals in the DRC and, indeed, throughout much of Africa.

Gold miners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

To Nine’s way of thinking, the problems surrounding the exploitation of coltan in the DRC epitomized the problems the entire African continent faced in capitalizing on the huge untapped wealth that lay beneath its surface. Corruption, political unrest and outside interference from non-African countries ensured the continent that should be the world’s wealthiest remained the poorest. The Orphan Uprising

A plethora of rebel militias

In the DRC, the link between its vast mineral resources and financing the various militia groups running riot is impossible to ignore. And coltan plays a key role in this never-ending conundrum.

Ongoing conflicts have made exploitation of the DRC’s coltan ore problematic to put it mildly. As a result, Congolese coltan represents only about a tenth of the world’s total production even though it has the lion’s share of the precious metal within its borders.

A UN Security Council report leaves no doubt much of the country’s coltan is mined illegally and smuggled out by rebel militias from neighboring Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda. Monies earned by these forces finance the ongoing conflict.

So who are these militia groups who are holding the DRC to ransom?

According to South African investigative site Daily Maverick there’s a plethora of rebel militias “all of whom are capable of causing varying degrees of chaos” in the eastern DRC.

In a report on the main rebel factions operating there, Daily Maverick states: “The M23 rebel movement has been the strongest in recent years, closely followed by the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), a motley but dangerous band of Rwandan refugees (some on the run from their role in the Rwandan genocide) and ethnic Hutus, dedicated to their own survival and the eventual overthrow of the Rwandan government”.

The report continues: “Their existence is thought to be a major factor in Rwanda’s involvement in the conflict in the eastern DRC (that and the region’s vast, lucrative mineral supplies, of course) and the group has a horrendous record when it comes to respect for human rights”.

As for the amount of money at stake, the Rwandan Army was rumored to have raised around US$250,000,000 from illegal coltan sales in just 18 months. The Rwandans have denied this of course.

Government troops or armed militia…it’s not always obvious in Africa.

“The continent that contains the most poverty also contains the most wealth.” –Bono, from a speech given at the G8 summit held in Chicago, IL, in May 2012.

An unnecessary war

It has been widely acknowledged that the brutal war in the DRC is primarily and directly related to the massive demand in the developed world’s countries for the minerals required for their military and electronic industries.

Coltan reserves are not abundant around the world like many other precious metals are. For instance, no coltan mining is undertaken in the US, which is totally reliant on imports of the precious material. The DRC is by far the easiest and cheapest place for the US to import coltan from.

Coltan mining is declining in Canada. And although China has some coltan, it has nowhere near enough to provide for its own high demand for the commodity. Both countries are in a very similar position to the US in this regard.

If the likes of North America and China dealt with alternative coltan suppliers – such as Australia – that would prove far less profitable than dealing with the DRC whose Third World conditions and lack of protections in place guarantee coltan can be sourced at rock bottom prices.

As mentioned in Chapter 16, fleecing the Third World has been a reality for decades if not centuries. Mineral-abundant Third World nations, which should be some of the richest on Earth, are all too often among the poorest. Many argue that the poverty of these nations can usually be blamed on wars strategically engineered by developed nations and Superpowers – wars that are also armed and funded by the developed world.

There is no greater example of this ugly phenomenon than in Africa, and the DRC has regularly been referred to as the poorest country in the world by international aid agencies.

As well as engineered wars that last for many years, the DRC is also raped financially over and over again. The World Bank loans the country billions annually and special clauses in the loan agreements allow for multinational companies to take virtually all the DRC’s enormous mineral resources for a pittance.

Meanwhile, the DRC is left indentured to the World Bank, forever attempting to pay off crippling interest rates. Almost none of the nation’s mineral wealth flows back to its people.

Mining coltan in the Congo (above). These ordinary looking rocks (below) are coltan.

Child labor

To add to the problem, many tens of thousands of children in the DRC are employed as miners – oftentimes in coltan mines. The work is primitive, dirty and dangerous.

Workers dig large craters in riverbeds to access the coltan. They then mix water and mud in big tubs to encourage the heavy coltan to settle on the bottom – much like gold miners did panning and sluicing for gold in years gone by. The mines management calls it child labor and officially employs children as young as 12 for this work; the outside world views it as slave labor, which is exactly what it is of course.

Child labor = slave labor in the DRC.

As most mobile phones contain coltan, it’s not too dramatic to say there’s blood on your cell phone – the blood of Congolese workers who are dying in their hundreds of thousands in a conflict that continues to claim many lives. There’s no doubt the demand for coltan is financing the conflict in the DRC and helping to promote the evil that is child/slave labor.

In an October 31, 2010 article by the leading Pakistani media outlet The Express Tribune, columnist Fatima Najm asks if “Pakistan’s 100 million cell phone users know their devices may be soaked in Congolese blood”.

Najm says within each of those phones are small amounts of coltan that add up to a lucrative illegal trade. “The explosive growth in the wireless industry means that demand for these tin ores collectively results in the rape and torture of hundreds of thousands of innocent Congolese people a year”.

The columnist points out that Congo is resource-rich, and its mighty river system has the potential to power all of Africa’s electricity needs. “Experts say stability in Congo could translate into peace and progress for all of Africa, but at least five neighboring countries have proxy militias battling each other in Congo for control of valuable tin ores”.

Is there blood on your cell phone…Probably.

Blood coltan not as sexy as blood diamonds

Najm makes an interesting comparison between Congolese coltan and diamonds, advising it’s logical to assume that “given the widespread violence attributed to coltan…one would imagine it would be destined for the same sort of notoriety as blood diamonds”.

Alas, not so, it would seem. ‘Blood diamonds’ obviously sounds a whole lot sexier than ‘blood coltan’ to Western media, moviegoers and the general public.

Primary image for Blood Diamond       Blood Diamond

Blood Diamond the movie and star Leonardo DiCaprio made blood diamonds “sexy”.

Predictably, smart phone manufacturers and the like have been quick to distance themselves from the whole murky business. Some publish disclaimers, denying that they source coltan from militia’s operating in the DRC; many claim the supply chain for coltan mined in the DRC is so complex it’s impossible to ascertain whether it has been legally or illegally mined and supplied.

To be fair, several high profile manufacturers in the US and elsewhere are sourcing their coltan from outside the DRC and, indeed, outside central Africa until such time as the legitimacy of mining operations there can be more clearly established. However, they’re in the minority.

Cell phone consumers and others have long been questioning the legitimacy of products. For the most part, it appears their questions are falling on deaf ears. Perhaps it’s time to ask more questions – and ask them louder.

There has been a campaign in recent years to try to force the big multinational companies to disclose whether or not they use Congolese conflict minerals. However, it’s often impossible to prove where such minerals come from.

Just as crafty banksters frequently transfer vast sums of money between various offshore tax havens to conceal their money trail, corporations that profit from ultra-cheap Congolese conflict minerals have middle men – usually warlords – who smuggle minerals from country to country so it’s extremely difficult to trace their origins.

Convoluted smuggling routes make source of conflict minerals hard to trace.

Of course, the problem of conflict minerals isn’t limited to the Democratic Republic of the Congo; it exists throughout much of the African continent. Equally, the problem isn’t limited to Africa.

Perhaps the last word on this vexing issue should go to The Guardian contributor Zobel Behalal, a peace and conflict advocacy officer, who reminds us that in Burma the mining industry was militarized for several decades, with the national army controlling mining sites, business operations and exportation, while in Colombia tantalum, wolframite and gold mines as well as their respective business concerns are controlled and taxed by armed groups.

Writing in The Guardian, Behalal says, “Products that have funded conflicts can only reach the international market with participation of the businesses that buy and use them. Bloomberg revealed that BMW’s, Ferraris, Porches and Volkswagens contain tungsten and wolframite that come from businesses under the control of the FARC Colombian rebels”.

Behalal insists these aren’t isolated cases.

“The trade of natural resources continues at the expense of violence and human rights violations. There is an urgent need to create a win-win contract between the economic factors and the local populations in order to create real and sustainable development in countries rich in natural resources.

“Due diligence must be enforced as a mandatory requirement throughout the supply chain of natural resources.”

Nine was aware the continued siphoning of coltan, as well as cobalt and diamonds, from the eastern Congo was part of a wider conspiracy to destabilize the country. The Orphan Uprising

It’s our contention governments, big corporations, industries and business moguls of the West and elsewhere in the developed world are very aware of what’s going on in Third World countries like the DRC. At best they pay lip service to the need to stamp out the conflict minerals business; at worst they knowingly encourage the trade in conflict minerals.

There does seem to be enough evidence – anecdotal and otherwise – surrounding the trade of coltan sourced in the DRC to suggest most are content to turn a blind eye to the exploitation of natural resources and the human cost of the conflict minerals business. To our eyes at least, this evidence is overwhelming. So overwhelming that, of the 29 conspiracy theories highlighted in The Orphan Trilogy, the blood minerals conspiracy is probably among those most likely to be true.

But hey, what do we know?

In 1959, Richard Condon’s classic psychological thriller The Manchurian Candidate was published. The book’s plot revolves around the son of a leading American political family being brainwashed into becoming a communist assassin without his knowledge or consent.

Ever since then, the title has become a catch-phrase amongst conspiracy theorists who swear they’ve got evidence to prove governments around the world have such mind-controlled assassins at their disposal.

They often list the likes of Lee Harvey Oswald, Sirhan Sirhan, Jack Ruby, Mark David Chapman and James Earl Ray as being likely Manchurian Candidates; and they point out that nearly all these men, as well as numerous other infamous lone gunmen, claimed after being captured that they were patsies who were being mind-controlled.

OswaldinMinsk.jpg   CE5301C.jpg

Oswald and Ruby…suspected Manchurian Canadidates.

However, the reality is programmed killers only exist in the realms of fictional stories and in the warped minds of those wearing tinfoil hats. There is no hard evidence to confirm the existence of Manchurian Candidates.

At least that’s what the authorities would have us believe.

From a very early age, Nine had been aware Omega’s motivation for manufacturing himself and the other orphans was to create the world’s most effective espionage agents. The mysterious figures who ran the Omega Agency knew from experience that family ties and espionage didn’t go together. In fact, they were a recipe for disaster. The shadow organization’s hierarchy needed operatives who were unencumbered by family ties, who could undertake any mission, anywhere on earth, no matter what the sacrifice. The Ninth Orphan

In books one and two of our international thriller series The Orphan Trilogy we describe how the clandestine Omega Agency creates the most advanced intelligence operatives and assassins – super spies if you like.

Twenty-three genetically engineered orphans are nurtured from childhood, through their teenage years and into early adulthood with one end goal in mind: to turn them into the ultimate spies. The methods used range from providing advanced training in everything from speed reading, math and science to languages, martial arts and military strategies to isolation tank, biofeedback and virtual reality sessions. So by the time our orphans reach their early teens, they’re already faster, stronger and more resilient, learned and intelligent than most adults.

Not content to rely on their charges’ natural ability in the field – on assignment that is – their Omegan masters program them using mind control technologies so the orphans, or orphan-operatives, can effectively be remote-controlled. Any who try to flee Omega can quickly be reined in courtesy of a microchip implant embedded in the forearm of each; the microchip emits an electronic signal, allowing the orphans’ masters to see their whereabouts at any time no matter where in the world they are.

MK = Mind Kontrol

The plot to our series could accurately be described as being very far-fetched, were it not for one thing: the officially acknowledged, real-life MK-Ultra program.

Project MK-Ultra…using citizens as its test subjects.

To recap, Project MK-Ultra, the most documented government mind control program uncovered yet, began in the early 1950’s, using unwitting American and Canadian citizens as its test subjects. We know this as a result of the many thousands of US Government documents that have been publicly accessed courtesy of the Freedom of Information Act, and the release of other formerly classified documents relating to MK-Ultra.

These revelations generated considerable publicity, debate, research – both official and unofficial – and a number of feature films, documentaries and television series.

Then there are the rumored Manchurian Candidates said to have been brainwashed by US Military factions, with heavy CIA involvement, to carry out assassinations or other such acts for those who have programmed them.

Incidentally, the best description we’ve found of a Manchurian Candidate is someone with an artificially created multiple personality; that personality has various identities; if one identity performs an act and gets caught, another identity takes over and the original identity has no recollection of the act he (seems it’s always a man) committed, so the information remains hidden from interrogators.

Mind control expert and award-winning author Dr. Alan Scheflin has for years claimed that, thanks to the CIA, MK-Ultra is still alive and well in America and that declassified documents show the CIA is creating a new kind of weapon.

Product Details

Scheflin, whose books include The Mind Manipulators, leaves little doubt the weapon he refers to is a Manchurian Candidate and, he says, such people aren’t responsible for their actions because they’re being controlled.

Scheflin’s assertions are confirmed by renowned psychiatrist Dr. Colin A. Ross, president and founder of the Colin A. Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma, who says he used the Freedom of Information Act to source US Government documents that show the CIA and different branches of the military continue to be active in the mind control business.

This revelation contradicts the US Government’s official statements which say there have been no further mind control programs since MK-Ultra was shut down in 1973.

Dr. Ross likens the selection of Manchurian Candidates to the selection process for the military’s documented radiation and germ warfare experiments that were conducted on soldiers who were always unaware of the dangers involved. He says the declassified documents he has sourced on mind control experiments reveal volunteers received huge amounts of electric shocks, which permanently wiped out their memories.

Because of their sublime genes, the orphans were all incredible specimens and often referred to by their creator, Doctor Pedemont, and by Naylor, Kentbridge and the rest of their Omega masters, as post-humans. Their DNA was different to anyone else’s and by their teens they were superior in many ways to the rest of the population, being smarter, faster, stronger and more adaptable. The Ninth Orphan

Mind games

Assassins experiencing amnesia is a subject that’s been explored in various bestselling novels and blockbuster movies, including Robert Ludlum’s Bourne novels and subsequent film adaptations.

In the 2007 feature film The Bourne Ultimatum, which stars Matt Damon and was directed by Paul Greengrass, a surprise twist delivered via flashbacks in the film’s third act reveals that Jason Bourne had actually volunteered to become an assassin. These flashbacks show Bourne has had his identity fractured and his memories erased after having been put through a series of trauma-based psychological trials that eventually broke down his original personality.

Primary image for The Bourne Ultimatum    Matt Damon's primary photo

The Bourne Ultimatum starring Matt Damon as a mind-controlled assassin.

Such works of fiction are clearly inspired by conspiracy theories which insist this is how mind-controlled assassins are created.

Numerous sources – some reliable, some not – report that Manchurian Candidates are subjected to receiving large amounts of LSD and other drugs, isolation, interrogation, hypnotism, and food and sleep deprivation as well as electric shocks. It seems trauma-based torture is used to program inductees and to promote the development of alternate psyches, or personalities, which would enable them to function normally and then to kill on command but have no recollection of their actions.

This fracturing of the psyche is said to be conducive to creating the phenomenon that has been termed sleeper assassins.

According to such theories, the first psychiatrists employed to master mind control studied mental patients who had been diagnosed with Multiple Personality Disorder, which medical science has since renamed Dissociative Identity Disorder. Many of those psychiatrists are said to have been Paperclip Nazi doctors who were brought to the US after conducting radical psychiatric experiments on patients during the Holocaust – the same doctors whose victims not only included Jews, Gyspies, political agitators and homosexuals, but also the mentally ill.

The (real) man who stared at goats

Meet Albert Stubblebine III.

One of the more colorful characters circulating rumors of hypnotized assassins is former head of US Army Intelligence, Major General Albert Stubblebine III, who masterminded the army’s psychic warfare program back in the early 1980’s. Yes, the same Stubblebine the Third who famously tried to create a soldier who could levitate and walk through walls, and who – on the record – said he believed American soldiers could win all wars if they could walk through walls!

Army program makes it to the big screen.

In case you still doubt Stubblebine’s credentials to speak on this subject, he’s the officer that the central character of the 2009 feature film The Men Who Stare at Goats, is based on. Is there a higher accolade than that? Still not convinced? Well, the central character was played by none other than George Clooney. Happy now?

George Clooney's primary photo

Actor Clooney plays Stubblebine.

According to Stubblebine, that story had its origins in his office when he was asked to develop the minds of people so that if they stared at a goat long enough its heart would explode. What’s more, he claims he has seen evidence that such a thing is possible, and he says he’s positive that the creation of Manchurian Candidates continues in America today.

We are not sure how seriously Albert Stubblebine III should be taken. Our first impressions are that he’s one sandwich short of a picnic.

Perhaps the Encyclopedia of American Loons should have the last say on Stubblebine. In a blog post dated January 13, 2013, the encyclopedia claims: “He is currently heartily insane, but seems to have been batshit crazy even before he tried to walk through walls”.

In a final diagnosis, the post ends: “I guess one could make an argument that the world needs hapless, elderly men called ‘Albert Stubblebine’ who are constantly befuddled by their failure to walk through solid walls”.

Then again, Stubblebine achieved the esteemed military rank of Major General and was the head of US Army Intelligence for many years. Those things don’t normally happen to loons.

Documented CIA sleeper assassins

On December 2, 2010, Russia Today ran an article headed CIA creating real life Manchurian Candidates? The news outlet’s report details the statements of a group of US military veterans who claimed their government had created sleeper assassins long ago. Decades ago in fact.

The vets were quoted as saying that from 1950 until 1975 experimentson themselves and other US soldiers were conducted at the Army’s Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland where “the government messed with their minds, implanted microchips and electrodes” during “mind control experiments”.

“They are alleging,” the article continues,“top secret CIA, military and even university scientists experimented on them with the purpose of implanting remote control devices in their brains to eventually turn them into robot-like assassins”.

Documents, which according to the article include declassified research papers from the Office of Naval Research as well as results of experiments conducted atHarvard and Yale, show how hypnosis and electro-implant experiments were first conducted on animals. This involved inserting electrodes into the brains of dolphins, cats and dogs. By all accounts, the tests were a success in that the scientists conducting them were able to control the actions of the laboratory animals via remote transmitters.

The next stage of testing was on humans – volunteers who apparently weren’t clear about what they were letting themselves in for – and proved equally successful. The individuals were mind controlled via the electrode brain implants and carried out a range of actions that signals beamed to their brains instructed them to do.

In what’s likely to be a case of art imitating life, the electrode implantsused, on the record, by the US Government for brainwashing soldiers echoes the 2004 remake of The Manchurian Candidate starring Denzel Washington and Liev Schreiber. In that film, Schreiber’s character has electrodes implanted in his brain by neuroscientists.

The Manchurian Candidate poster.jpg

Movie a likely case of art imitating life.

The aforementioned mind control expert Dr. Colin A. Ross says the account of the US military veterans who were experimented on, as well as the official government documents detailing the experiments, all prove “this is absolutely documented fact.”

“People can be in a sleeper state indefinably,” Dr. Ross adds,“but of course this is all secret and classified.”

Although more recent mind control science remains classified, creating sleeper assassins all sounds very possible given what is known to have occurred during MK-Ultra. In fact, it not only sounds possible, but highly likely. After all, if the long-desired Manchurian Candidate phenomenon was proven to be a reality decades ago, something tells us senior intelligence agents wouldn’t just say to each other, “Oh well, we proved it’s possible, but we won’t send any mind controlled assassins out into the field as that would be immoral.”

According to our research, it’s very probable sleeper assassins are in existence all over the world today, quietly carrying out hits for the global elite. Given mind control has been a documented fact for well over half a century, the powers that be must surely now have all the science needed to create as many brainwashed assassins as they require.

“Our orphans exist on the frontiers of modern science,” the doctor said proudly. “They each have two more chromosomes than the average person. For all intents and purposes, they are post-humans. Superior in every way to the rest of the population.” The Orphan Factory

The physical side of the equation

Besides the psychological manipulation said to be needed to create programmed killers, the human body must also be enhanced. Manchurian Candidates would be of no use to intelligences agencies if they were not physically capable of carrying out complex assassinations. It is one thing to have a malleable brain, but quite another to have the body and physical skills of a killing machine.

Common claims to emerge regarding the physical training inductees receive in these black op programs include harsh trials of strength, martial arts and weapons training, feats of endurance and wilderness survival tests, and even flying various aircraft. The result is super soldiers who are trained to extremely advanced levels in numerous disciplines – much like our fictitious orphan polymaths in The Orphan Trilogy.

Beyond physical training, forcibly altering and enhancing assassins’ bodies would be another likely way to create the ultimate killing machines. This could be achieved by genetic engineering ensuring none of the usual genetic imperfections would exist in the Manchurian Candidates’ bodies.

Administering advanced substances – of the chemical variety or otherwise – could also be a way to manufacture such individuals. Steroids would be the obvious one, but that’s probably too simplistic an approach for designing elite assassins.

The 2012 film The Bourne Legacy, which stars Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz and was directed by Tony Gilroy, shows the CIA improving their operatives by altering their DNA with top-secret drugs. In the film, Weisz plays a CIA chemist employed to create the drugs that make Renner’s character and other operatives superior to average humans, not only intellectually, but also physically.

Primary image for The Bourne Legacy   Jeremy Renner's primary photo

The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner shows CIA’s (rumored) use of drugs.

We explore a similar theme in The Orphan Trilogy by showing the orphans regularly ingesting the mysterious Ormus aka White Gold. Unlike the substance given to the spies in The Bourne Legacy, Ormus is not a manufactured laboratory drug but a naturally occurring substance that exists in the real world. It allows the orphans to run as fast and fight as well as any adult.

For all anyone knows, Ormus may actually be one of the substances being used by the world’s elite assassins.

The Governor to the rescue

Perhaps the most high profile investigation into MK-Ultra and mind controlled operatives has been conducted by Jesse Ventura, former Governor of Minnesota, who is probably America’s – and possibly the world’s – best known conspiracy theorist.

Jesse Ventura Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura

Governor Jesse Ventura…presents a compelling case.

The Governor fronts Sleeper Assassins, a 2010 episode of the popular US television series Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura. In the episode, he and his team of investigators present a fairly compelling case that Manchurian Candidates in the form of programmed killers do exist in present-day America.

Ventura, who by dearth of his political status had – and to an extent still has – access to official documents, facilities and personnel at the highest levels, informs his audience the US military has been experimenting with mind control since the 1950’s.

Jesse Ventura – Sleeper Assassins starts with Ventura telling viewers he hasuncovered a Government plot to turn ordinary citizens into programmed killers.

“I’ve also seen how hypnosis, torture and other techniques can make ordinary people do things they otherwise couldn’t do,” he says. “I met a man who says they did it to him. All the high-profile assassins who fit this same pattern…believe the government turned them into weapons. Could this be a coincidence? I don’t think so.”

The most intriguing point of the episode is when Ventura interviews whistleblower Robert Duncan O’Finioan, a self-professed former Manchurian Candidate who candidly reveals the methods used to take over his mind and reveals the types of missions he undertook whilst under the influence of mind control.

DF head.jpg

Former Manchurian Candidate Robert Duncan O’Finioan.

O’Finioan, who is said to have unusual body strength, martial arts talents and alter egos that can be triggered, also claims he and others like him were “taken” and “genetically enhanced with implants” and “turned into something more than a normal human being” – so they almost literally became fighting machines.

Jesse_Ventura_Duncan_OFinioan_manchurian_candidate_300.jpg

Governor Ventura (right) interviews O’Finioan for his TV series.

O’Finioan appears to be the go-to guy for any conspiracy theorist wanting to add credibility to his or her theory on Manchurian Candidates. He shows up on numerous websites and, it appears, he was and maybe still is the subject of at least one planned book and film.

An item dated January 2007 on the popular ProjectCamelot.org site catalogues an interesting interview conducted with O’Finioan and his friend Dave Corso who, the writer claims, “are both part of Project Talent, an unacknowledged MK-ULTRA military program”.

The article continues: “Their joint testimony strongly suggests that the US military has a program of super soldiers, not only those like Duncan(O’Finioan) – with psychic abilities and uncommon strength – but also those in command, who were trained to spot military talent and were skilled in psychotronics, that is: mind control…

“Controller and soldier? … Their relationship is unclear. But somewhere in the murky waters of the past, two men, from vastly different backgrounds, have come together as friends only to discover that what brings them together may be far more mysterious and sinister than either is prepared to remember”.

Since that interview, O’Finioan is on the record as saying an MRI scan he had following a car accident caused acranial implant to malfunction, removing barriers in his mind that had previously kept memories hidden. He claims those memories leave no doubt that he was a killing machine used for termination assignments and that he was also a victim of MK-Ultra.

O’Finioan’s own blog site at duncanofinian.com makes for an interesting read also. In an entry dated January 21, 2014, the man himself posts an open letter from “the survivors of Project Talent” addressed to, among others, President Obama, the US Senate, Congress, the UN and several other organizations. He encourages subscribers to distribute the letter far and wide.

The letter reads: “We, the survivors of MK ULTRA and all of its sub-projects – Project Talent being one of them – are coming to you, the leaders of the free world, for redress. We request immediate action on this matter, as we have waited long enough for our respective governments to take notice of the torture that was illegally and secretly forced upon us as children by the same said governments.”

In the same letter, the writers make a number of other requests – including the following: “We ask for acknowledgement of all that was done to us, both as children and adults, by the governments who committed these illegal acts against us, as well as recognition of duties that we performed for our respective countries in the name of freedom and national security…And finally, we request that all black projects which use children cease immediately… The torture of children can in no way ever be condoned by any country for any reason. It is our highest wish to have a public announcement that these projects using children will be stopped.”

The same blog site features an August 2013 OffPlanet Radio interview with one John Stormm, another self-professed survivor of Project Talent and fellow victim of MK-Ultra. He claims he was one of the first batches of infants to be inducted into the MK Ultra program.

“I was subjected to torturous physical, mental, genetic, psychological and chemical conditionings, designed to make me into an unstoppable hunter/seeker/assassin,” says Stormm. “A master of what the CIA used to refer to as ‘the happy accident’. An untraceable stealth weapon capable of fracturing skulls, necks, spines, ribs or whatever and in a split second, leaving a corpse that can be easily set up to appear as a car wreck or household accident that leaves no embarrassing fingers pointed or homicide investigations.”

Storm claims that in the late 1960’s he was trained and used as a remote viewer in an MK Talent portion of the program, and by 1970, had taken on some of his first combat roles.

To achieve its New World Order plans, the Omega Agency needed people who could make use of their primordial instincts, who wouldnt question the morality of orders and who would kill without hesitation. Operatives of that caliber were priceless. The Ninth Orphan

Getting back to Governor Jesse Ventura and that Conspiracy Theory TV episode, before his director can shout Cut! It’s a wrap! Ventura informs viewers he’s convinced there are more programmed killers out there. “Let’s just hope their sites are aimed at the enemy,” he says.

Let’s hope he’s right about that!

Subliminal messages are any sensory stimuli that occur below an individual’s threshold of conscious awareness. What this means is messages can be sent to your mind without you being aware of the fact.

The concept of information being transmitted to individuals without their consent or awareness is interrelated with other subjects explored so far in The Orphan Conspiracies, especially mind control in chapter 2 and media manipulation in chapter 13.

Subliminal messaging – also known as subliminals – is nothing new. The technique has been around at least since the advent of radio and television.

Although there was great concern about subliminals when they first came to the mass public’s attention in the 1950’s, fears soon waned as experts assured all and sundry that the ever so subtle messages were relatively ineffective or else did not work at all.

By the late 20th Century, a whole host of scientific studies had concluded subliminals were not remotely effective.

Over the decades, however, there have been many groups in society who continued to maintain concerns over the wide usage of subliminals. Conspiracy theorists naturally expressed the greatest fears, but civil libertarians, media watchdogs and worried parents also raised issues.

Adding fuel to the whole debate is the fact that new science of the early 21st Century is also beginning to raise alarm bells regarding the influence and effectiveness of subliminals. It turns out the subtle method of advertising may be a little more persuasive on the mind than experts told us it was in the 20th Century.

Perhaps even a lot more persuasive…

“I saw a subliminal advertising executive, but only for a second.” –Steven Wright, American comedian

Concealed messages in ads

It’s no secret that advertisers and programmers have long inserted hidden messages that consumers receive unknowingly.

There are numerous well-known incidents of subliminals being used in media advertising. A CBS News article headed The 10 Best Subliminal Ads Ever Made (dated October 20, 2011) provides some interesting examples.

The known history of this advertising technique essentially began in 1957, when market researcher James Vicary inserted subliminal messages into screenings of a film at a movie theater in New Jersey. The subliminals instructed cinemagoers to eat popcorn and buy Coca-Cola. According to Vicary, sales for both Coke and popcorn went through the roof.

Vicary’s cinema experiment coincided withthe publication of Vance Packard’s bestselling book The Hidden Persuaders, which highlights subliminal tactics used by advertisers.

These developments prompted many others with an interest in influencing minds to begin researching this new technique. And so the subliminal movement was born.

According to their music teacher, the mind became like a sponge when listening to the symphonies of Mozart and other Baroque composers. Nine, however, suspected there were subliminal messages embedded in the music. Sometimes he thought he caught whispers of Naylor’s voice underneath the music and worried he was being brainwashed. The Orphan Factory

Should it be legal?

Subliminal messaging has been banned in some countries including the UK and Australia, but it remains legal in most countries.

Although legal in the US, subliminal messaging is frowned upon – officially at least. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) warns it will revoke any broadcaster’s licence where the use of subliminals is proven, and high profile American broadcasters and television networks pay lip service to the intent behind the FCC’s warning and to their expressed desire to protect listeners and viewers from subliminals.

Spot two happy diners in this Tortilla chips ad?

Since the 1950’s, numerous proposed laws to ban subliminal advertising have been introduced to the US Congress, but all have perished in committee without making it to the floor of either the House or Senate for a vote. Several states, including California, have at times discussed anti-subliminal advertising laws, but none have enacted those laws. The usual excuse given by lawmakers is that as research has failed to conclusively prove subliminal advertising is effective there’s no need to pass such laws.

There is a school of thought in America that there’s a conspiracy – in which the big corporations and ad agencies are key players – to convince the public that subliminal advertising doesn’t work.

Do subliminals work?

Spot the trees, birds and animals in this clever zoo ad.

Advertisers and others have gone to great lengths to assure us subliminals do not work, trotting out the results of “exhaustive studies,” “consumer poll results” and “extensive research” that point to the results of subliminal messaging being fairly ambiguous at best. One study quoted by Wikipedia claims “subliminal messages produce only one-tenth of the effects of detected messages”.

However, there is credible research that shows subliminal stimuli often sparks actions someone intended to perform. In other words, actions can be subliminally prompted if someone was already planning to carry out that action, but it will not force them to do something they weren’t already thinking of doing.

Conspiracy theorists go much further than that and often state or imply many or even most of our everyday actions are the result of subliminal messages we have seen or heard. They argue we receive so many subliminals throughout our lives that it has a cumulative effect which, when added up, amounts to mind control.

So there you have it: the two extremes. As is often the case, the truth may be somewhere in the middle. Or is it?

Many independent researchers have come to the shocking conclusion that we are being bombarded with so many subliminals every day it’s virtually impossible not to be influenced by them in some way.

And science may be beginning to support the claims of these researchers. For example, very recent studies involving functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) have revealed that subliminals activate crucial regions of the brain including the hippocampus, the amygdala, the primary visual cortex and the insular cortex. These latest scientific studies directly contradict 20th Century research.

Spot the golfer and the Spartan warrior in this ad.

Our own research has revealed major corporations – in the US especially – are investing tens of millions of dollars into subliminal advertising each year. Some are even hiring subliminal experts to covertly influence consumers into buying their products and services.

Which begs the question: why do these corporations so frequently use subliminal advertising and spend so much of their precious marketing campaign budgets on it if they don’t believe it sways customers and boosts sales?

A similar question could be asked of politicians and political parties who attempt to sway voters with subliminal advertising. American voters have long been concerned about the incidence of such advertising on their television and computer screens leading up to elections.

Political manipulation

Often quoted is the television advertisement promoting George W. Bush during the 2000 election campaign. When a photo of his opponent, Vice President Al Gore, appeared on screen, a subliminal flashed across the screen with the word ‘RATS’. This has since been acknowledged as a purposeful subliminal insertion by the ad company and campaign managers responsible for the ad.

Al Gore

Al Gore (above) and the infamous RATS ad (below).

With media advertising per candidate in the US presidential elections now costing north of US$250 million, you can imagine how much television ads cost – even back in 2000. Whatever the actual cost of the subliminal component of the infamous George W. Bush ad, it was an expensive addition to spend on a technology that supposedly does not work.

Then again…who was it who won that election?

Subliminal researcher Martin Howard claims the US Government uses the underhand advertising technology as a way to mind control the American public.

In his 2005 book We Know What You Want: How They Change Your Mind, Howard states that by “using the universal tools fear, patriotism, and phrase repetition, these high flying spin doctors can easily sway the population. The most successful public relations campaigns aim to change public perception without our awareness of the campaign. They are typically launched by governments, institutions and countries who need to change their public image, restore their reputation or manipulate public opinion. There are PR firms today who advise dictatorships, dishonest politicians and corrupt industries to cover up environmental catastrophes and human rights violations.”

The previously mentioned 1957 book The Hidden Persuaders, by Vance Packard, explores the manipulation techniques used to sway voters toward a certain political candidate. According to Packard, these techniques often include subliminal messages. The bestselling book also questions the morality of such techniques.

Subliminal specialists

The little known individuals who specialize in subliminal marketing and advertising are often referred to as either influence consultants or subliminal influencers. However, the former title is more common, perhaps because the word subliminal has bad connotations.

These specialists work in the field known as subliminal branding and are quietly employed by major corporations to create subliminally effective marketing campaigns for the mediums of television, radio and especially the Internet and social media. Or put another way, these penetrators of the subconscious insert subliminal messages into ads in ways known to strongly influence those who are exposed to them.

It all sounds quite similar to the 2010 sci-fi thriller Inception, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and was directed by Christopher Nolan. In the blockbuster film, DiCaprio’s character plants ideas into unsuspecting targets’ minds.

Primary image for Inception

The main difference between Inception and the real-world usage of subliminals is that the movie is about influencing the subconscious minds of people while they are asleep.

On the other hand, neuroscientists tell us the brain produces similar hypnotic brain waves when watching television, films or listening to music as it does when asleep. In other words, it is in a highly suggestible state and is wide open for influencing, or some would say for manipulating.

There’s one final point worth mentioning regarding the high-flying influence consultants hired by multinational corporations. Whilst researching them, we noticed an intriguing and perhaps disturbing theme: most either had an employment history in the hypnosis, brain wave entrainment or mind control fields, or else had strong interests that often bordered on fixations with these subjects.

It appears these masters of subliminal science may have a little too much in common with the likes of the psychiatrists and scientists who formulated MK-Ultra and other insidious mind control programs.

Subliminals, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll

Of course, subliminal messages are not just visual. They’ve traditionally been inserted into radio broadcasts and even into pop music.

Pop and rock bands have been known to use something called Reverse Speech, which is another form of subliminals. It involves infusing subliminal messages into songs, often contradicting the song’s apparent message.

2013-04-28-AD20120830732216The_Beatles_per.jpg

The Beatles…accused of using reverse speech in their lyrics.

The Beatles and U2 have both been accused of using reverse speech in the lyrics of their songs. However, it was British band Judas Priest – renowned as one of the best heavy metal bands of all time – who hit the headlines when, in 1990, they were taken to court by parents who claimed the band had inserted evil subliminal messages in albums and songs, negatively influencing their children toward destructive behavior. The parents of one of two young men involved in a suicide pact alleged the Judas Priest song‘Better By You, Better Than Me’, from the ‘Stained Glass’ album, contained the subliminal command “Do it” that triggered their son’s suicide attempt.

British band Judas Priest…also accused.

At trial’s end, the ruling was the so-called command was in fact an accident resulting from the wrong background lyrics being used.

Cartoons

Perhaps the widest current use of subliminals is found in children’s television shows, including animation programs.

Opponents of subliminals have long been critical of the amount of sex and violence secretly contained in children’s cartoons. Some well publicized instances – such as the subliminal insertion of the word ‘SEX’ in the movie, The Lion King, and similar subliminal messages in Disney films – have been satisfactorily explained as mistakes or coincidences. Others have been quite deliberate – such as the case of one Ken Sobel, a New Yorker who was viewing a videotaped episode of the animated series Alf when something made him freeze the screen. What he saw disturbed him.

That scene from The Lion King.

Across the screen, in front of images of the Statue of Liberty and the American flag, was the word ‘AMERICA’ in large letters. It occupied precisely one frame – too fast for the average person to see if played at normal speed, but not too fast for Mr. Sobel who had the presence of mind to freeze-frame it at that crucial point.

A subsequent NBC investigation into the incident resulted in the series’ animators admitting to deliberately inserting the image in the cartoon. Their admission didn’t stop there. The same animators admitted to placing other images in their cartoons.

Not even Lady Liberty could escape the subliminal messaging predators.

That there are many other examples of such indiscretions is alarming given young minds are so impressionable and easily manipulated. Few would disagree that children’s cartoons, films, videos and television series should be free of anything resembling subliminals. Unfortunately, we live in an age where the mighty dollar comes ahead of such considerations.

Incidentally, although NBC and most of their competitor networks publicly condemn subliminal messages in advertising, none appear to monitor their ads to ensure they’re subliminal-free. Nor do their policies make mention of subliminals in their on-air programs.

New frontiers

Online media has led to a proliferation of subliminal messages. Subliminals are tailor-made for insertion into video and even online text and animation – and there’s little or no legislator oversight.

And when you consider the worldwide explosion of screens with video game machines, computer tablets, ATM machines, smart phones and wearable technology devices like Google Glass, you start to get the idea how many possibilities there are for subliminal ad predators to take advantage of.

“Advertising, music, atmospheres, subliminal messages and films can have an impact on our emotional life, and we cannot control it because we are not even conscious of it.” –Tariq Ramadan, The Quest for Meaning: Developing a Philosophy of Pluralism.

In recent years, with the evolution of the Internet, including video sites and social media, the Tinfoil Hat Network has gone into overdrive with conspiracy theories surrounding subliminals. They claim subliminal messages are used by the Illuminati via their mind controlled Project Monarch music artists to lead the world into an era of Satanism that will in turn lead to a global Apocalypse.

If nothing else, Tinfoil Hatters are always sensationalists. No matter where they conjure up their outlandish conspiracies, be it in their local asylum or in their mother’s basement, they never fail to shock. Ya gotta give ‘em that – and ya gotta love ‘em!

In 1998, one of us (James) took a guided tour through the Pentagon, the US Department of Defense headquarters in Arlington County, Virginia. It was quite an eye-opener.

The tour guide was a young military staffer and the other 50 or so tour party members included a chubby, garrulous boy of about eight or nine who spoke with a southern drawl and was constantly eating. Between mouthfuls of food, the boy interrupted the tour guide’s running commentary in a loud voice, asking, “What about the levels below the Pentagon, sir?”

The tour guide politely but firmly replied, “Son, there are no levels below the Pentagon, what you see is all there is.”

That reply seemed to satisfy the boy until about five minutes later he repeated the question and received a near identical response. This same question-same answer pattern continued for the remainder of the tour, visibly raising the young staffer’s aggravation levels every time he was interrupted and forced to answer the persistent boy.

In all likelihood the boy had watched TV shows or movies referencing the conspiracy theory which insists there are miles of tunnels, subterranean levels and underground bunkers below the Pentagon, suggesting what’s seen above ground is merely the tip of the iceberg.

File:The Pentagon January 2008.jpg

The Pentagon above ground…merely the tip of the iceberg?

If you’re wondering how the previously mentioned Splinter Civilization with all its suppressed technologies, manpower and equipment could exist without the mass public’s knowledge then consider what’s below the surface. Literally.

That’s right folks, we’re talking about the hidden black world beneath our feet – another favorite theory of a million and one members of the Tinfoil Hat Network, but also a theory many genuine researchers buy into as well.

“The secret facility was not only off limits to the general public, it was completely off the US Government’s radar. In fact, like everything else connected with Omega, knowledge of its existence was beyond any government.”The Ninth Orphan

In our international thriller series – you guessed it, The Orphan Trilogy – the shadowy Omega Agency’s secret headquarters are one mile below ground. This decision for the storyline was inspired by longstanding rumors of military bunkers and enormous underground facilities not known to the general public.

One book critic commented at the end of her review of our series as follows: “Quite thought-provoking books, too, when you ponder on what the world’s super powers are really up to in their underground bunkers!”

That comment got us thinking. What the hell are the powers-that-be doing below ground and why are they building such facilities?

In the course of researching this particular book, we came across a number of convincing sources that appear to confirm the existence of at least some secret subterranean facilities. These sources include declassified US Government files, university reports, Wikileaks’ documents and eyewitness accounts from common citizens who stumbled across such bases, as well as interviews with, and testimonials from, former military personnel who claim to have worked in underground bunkers.

Like most theories covered in this book, we still don’t necessarily have any definitive answers to offer. That’s the nature of conspiracy theories, folks. Nevertheless, sifting through the myriad of reports, whispers and rumors of underground facilities sure was enlightening, sobering and fun all at the same time!

“Omega’s HQ did not show up on any maps or satellite images. That was because it was a subterranean facility hidden deep beneath an abandoned hydro dam in south-west Illinois. Built in 1978, the existence of the underground facility was unknown to the American public. More importantly, it was unknown to the US Government, or any other government for that matter.”The Orphan Factory

D.U.M.B.

Remember in chapter 7 we covered examples of suppressed science – like Nikola Tesla’s technologies and other little-known inventions that we suggested the Splinter Civilization may have in their possession? Well, if we are correct and a more scientifically advanced offshoot of humanity co-exists on the planet right now, then it’s a safe bet they maintain their secrecy by going about most of their business in underground bases. And not only in America, but most likely all over the world.

DUMByucca

Classified: A Deep Underground Military Base…somewhere in America.

Where else short of colonizing another planet could they hide the required plant, machinery and equipment – and the manpower to operate it – away from the prying eyes of Joe Citizen, investigative journalists and inquisitive everyday people like us?

Worth noting is that security at the entrances to known and acknowledged underground facilities is at least equal to security at the border checkpoints that separate nations. This seems to add some weight to the theory that we are dealing with a Splinter Civilization and this small but powerful group have purposefully divided themselves from official society, or from the world as we know it. More correctly, the global elite have separated us from their society because they’re able to operate in both worlds – above and below ground.

We accept the concept of such a breakaway group may still seem hard to fathom, but consider once more the aforementioned comments given by Daniel K. Inouye, US Senator from Hawaii, in his testimony at the 1987 Iran-Contra Hearings. “There exists a shadowy government,” Inouye said, “with its own Air Force, its own Navy, its own fundraising mechanism, and the ability to pursue its own ideas of national interest, free from all checks and balances, and free from the law itself.”

According to our research, this Splinter Civilization was able to grow so powerful and remain largely below the radar due to a number of complex events, which all intersected mid to late last century.

One was the apparent arrival of extra-terrestrials en masse, allegedly commencing around the time of the widely reported yet still classified Roswell UFO incident in New Mexico in 1947.

Another was the scientific improvements in tunnelling and digging technologies from the 1950’s onwards. Again, one of us (Lance) can speak with a little authority on this, having gone through the Mount Isa Mines school of mining in the Outback of Queensland, Australia, working as an underground miner back in the late 1960’s and following mining developments around the world with interest ever since.

The third reason was the Cold War whose ‘national security’ demands and the resulting unhealthy culture of secrecy it gave rise to encouraged governments to be less accountable to their citizens.

These coinciding factors all created a perfect storm for underground bases to be built and managed by the Military Industrial Complex and intelligence agencies as well as private corporations.

Those who have researched unacknowledged subterranean facilitiesare almost unanimous in their belief that the bases are funded by black budgets financed by a combination of banksters, drug wars and profits from (mainly mineral) resources plundered from unwitting Third World countries.

The US program for building these underground bunkers is known as DUMB, or Deep Underground Military Bases. DUMB has apparently been in operation since the late 1940’s and there are now said to be hundreds of such bases in almost every state in mainland America.

Maybe that fat kid wasn’t so DUMB after all

In the 21st Century, it’s basically common knowledge and certainly widely accepted that the Pentagon has multiple levels of enormous bunkers and an immense network of tunnels beneath its visible exterior.

It makes complete sense, too. You’d expect the Department of Defense’s HQ of the world’s greatest superpower would have multiple access routes and escape tunnels to accommodate sudden evacuations and other emergencies.

Revealing system of tunnels beneath the White HouseIt’s a similar situation in Washington D.C. where it has been widely reported by mainstream media that there’s a vast tunnel system below the capital. And it’s our understanding that at any given time there are at hundreds of security personnel patrolling the tunnels, on foot or with the aid of motorized vehicles, beneath the city. Very likely many of D.C.’s tunnels lead to and from the White House. The often-told stories of Marilyn Monroe being sneaked in and out of the White House via underground tunnels to meet with JFK would seem to confirm this. Such tales reveal the capital’s extensive tunnel system enabled Marilyn to be the President’s mistress without much scandal – for a period, at least.

Tunnels purported to be beneath the White House.

“The covert underground infrastructure serves many functions. Among these are strategic storage of materials and weapons, clandestine research and production facilities, alternant basing for military personnel and equipment, surface environment control systems (atmospheric lensing, synthetic earthquakes, weather modification, civilian population control, etc).” –Dr. Steven J. Smith. Excerpt from the paper Underground Infrastructure –The missing forty trillion dollars.

Underground cities

By all appearances, the US Government is building underground cities in preparation for a coming catastrophe they seem certain is imminent. Whether the elite believe it will be some kind of nuclear apocalypse or a religious, Armageddon-type scenario, nobody knows. At least, nobody we know knows.

In episode 4 of the third season of Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura, former Minnesota Governor Ventura and his son Tyrel Ventura, along with Sean Stone, son of Oscar-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone, travel to the Ozarks, a mountainous region of the central United States, to investigate rumors of underground developments there. They find the entrance to what appears to be an underground city being built inside a mountain.

Jesse Ventura (center) and team outside what they call an underground city.

Despite heavy fortifications – and no doubt aided by Ventura’s status as former Governor of Minnesota – the team gain vehicular entry to the massive underground facility, which they discover covers an area of 50 square miles! As they drive around freely, they quickly deduce it is indeed an underground city in the making, complete with offices, warehouses, manufacturing plants, indoor farming facilities as well as stockpiles of food, water and crude oil.

“It’s like they’ve got door-to-door transportation for the chosen few when it’s time to move inside and weld those doors shut. I don’t necessarily think it’d be a good place to live, but it would be a good place to survive.” –Jesse Ventura, from episode 4, season 3, of Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura.

What’s happening below ground?

There’s a long list of claims regarding the nefarious activities conducted by the global elite and their pawns in these underground bases. Some say they have clandestine prisons where officially designated missing persons and others who have dropped off the grid are held captive; some believe human-alien joint ventures are taking place in these bases to further black technologies or to advance certain species.

When it comes to suppressed science, the hit sci-fi television seriesWarehouse 13, which at the time of writing is still on TV and into its fifth season, probably best portrays the secret science bunker concept. The basic plot has two US Secret Service Agents assigned to a top-secret government warehouse to protect scientific discoveries and radical technologies invented by Nikola Tesla and others – none of which the public are aware. The premise of a largely underground warehouse storing suppressed discoveries and inventions is based on conspiracy theories that have been swirling around for decades.

Primary image for Warehouse 13

Hit TV series taps into theory.

There have also been reports from former military engineers and government geologists about supersonic transportation systems underground. Who knows, maybe the global elite travel between cities and countries below ground, utilizing the underworld’s rumored faster transportation methods?

It has also been claimed that radical biological experiments take place in the Splinter Civilization’s underworld. The kind that the laws of the land above ground don’t allow – such as unsanctioned forms of genetic engineering, human cloning and illegal drug testing by pharmaceutical corporations. Some conspiracy theorists who believe complex viruses like HIV/AIDS, SARS and Ebola are all manmade, have even theorized that these viruses are manufactured and tested in underground facilities before being unleashed above ground.

Neo-Nazi technologies are also said to exist below ground. This apparently dates back to the Project Paperclip scientists who, as we mention in chapter 12, were secretly ushered in to America immediately after WW2. Werner von Braun, the German-turned naturalized American and Godfather of NASA’s space rocket program, is one that many researchers have named in relation to underground bases. These Nazi Paperclip scientists were supposedly crucial to the development and construction of the underground bases and tunnels that now exist beneath American soil.

If that sounds farfetched, remember it’s well-documented that von Braun and other Paperclip Nazis built V2 rockets for Hitler in large underground missile facilities in their German homeland in the 1940’s.

Aircraft and God knows what else stored underground…somewhere. (Photo not verified).

Wildest of all, are the numerous conspiracy theories that maintain many of these underground bases – of which there are rumored to be thousands worldwide – are full of captive men, women and children. Some suggest the captives may have been taken from above ground, which may partially account for the hundreds of thousands of missing persons reported annually around the world who are never found; others suggest the captives are human clones designed to spend their lives enslaved underground to further the global elite’s agendas; and still others suggest some captives are used as human guinea pigs in radical science experiments conducted by scientists working for the Splinter Civilization.

And then there’s the intriguing statements made by one Philip Schneider, an American geologist who, until his untimely death, also claimed to be an ex-government military engineer.Schneider said while he was involved in constructing additional bunkers in one underground base in New Mexico, he discovered aliens conducted horrific experiments on people detained in bunkers miles below the earth’s surface. (More on Schneider later in this chapter).

About now you may be asking, “Why are these guys talking about aliens as if their existence on earth is a documented fact?” Or if you’ve read The Orphan Trilogy, you may be thinking, “There’s no mention of aliens in those novels, so why are you guys suddenly hitting me with all this ET stuff now?”

Fair questions, but keep in mind we have no strong opinion either way as to whether aliens are with us or even if they exist. All we are doing is repeating the conspiracy theories out there concerning underground bases. It just so happens a lot of rumors and reports – some reliable, some not – on such bases involve either aliens or alien technologies. In many instances, the theories surrounding underground bunkers and aliens cannot be separated.

“It is the most well kept ‘secret’ of all time! The earth is a much grander, mysterious and wondrous place than anyone could ever imagine in our wildest dreams! If true, an entire ‘second’ earth exists right below our feet! Not just in the US but nearly every point on this earth hosts an entire network of caverns of vast size and depth; honey-combed thru out the planet! There is a vast and deep underground world where advanced technology can be used freely. Where people can escape to and where all manner of secrets can be kept. Some very important testimonies and documents are available from certain ‘military’ sources (confirming) that this is real!” –ArraiEl (Yahoo member), published on the Yahoo Voices website on 25 October 2011 in an article titled Deep Cavern Systems Worldwide.

Combining advanced technologies and Mother Nature

While the vast majority of underground bases are said to have been constructed by the Military Industrial Complex, it seems most are also built inside or directly above natural, pre-existing cave networks. Either that or the constructors have made use of miles of abandoned mine tunnels and shafts.

This would make sense as those who design and build such bases would naturally look to utilize the best of nature and man – and possibly extra-terrestrial civilizations as well.

File:Empire mine shaft.jpg

California’s Empire Mine State Historic Park…one of many mine shafts around the world.

When it comes to American underground bases, this may not be as crazy as it first seems as much of mainland America is dotted with sinkholes, abandoned mines and enormous caves and cavern networks.

The word cave usually conjures up images of small caverns or fissures in the ground. But the reality is there are giant underground caves extending many, many miles underground. Some are said to be bottomless – and who are we to argue? For all we know, a cave or cave system could start in the wilds of Montana and end in Alaska.

Many caves, including one nicknamed the Subterranean Grand Canyon, are so vast only their entrances have been explored, while others – it’s universally agreed – have yet to be discovered let alone explored. And many of these giant cave systems contain rare rock formations and unusual geology, significant underground rivers, lakes and seas with unique species of cavefish in them, as well as abundances of gemstones, crystals and gold. The Er Wang Dong cave system, in China, even has its own climate system complete with clouds and rain!

Skocjan Caves…better known as the Underground Grand Canyon.

One example of the scale of underground cave systems is the extensive system known as Craighead Caverns in Sweetwater, Tennessee. According to Wikipedia, Craighead Caverns are “best known for containing the United States’ largest and the world’s second largest non-subglacial underground lake, The Lost Sea. In addition to the lake, the caverns contain an abundance of crystal clusters called anthodites, stalactites and stalagmites, plus a waterfall.”

The Lechuguilla Cave in New Mexico is another example. Only officially discovered in 1986,Lechuguilla isthe seventh-longest explored cave in the world with 138.3 miles of confirmed cave networks, although more sections of the cave continue to be found.

Given the scale of these naturally-occurring subterranean cavities, perhaps the theory of building in, around or on top of such geological systems when constructing underground bases would not only seem prudent, but practical.

It’s also worth noting that access to many of the world’s largest caves, including the Lechuguilla Cave, is restricted to approved scientific researchers and government employees. This fact may dovetail with the conspiracy theory that says some of the largest caves are either controlled by the government or lie below completely restricted lands like Nevada’s Area 51, for example. Then again, denying public access to such caves could simply be a matter of safety or conservation concerns, or both.

Mount Weather

An hour’s drive from Washington D.C. is Mount Weather, a massive underground complex in the state of Virginia. It’s basically a military base within a hollowed-out mountain.

A bird’s eye view of the Mount Weather Special Facility, a FEMA center.

As UK newspaper The Guardian reports in an article dated August 28, 2006, the underground emergency operations facility was “originally built to house governmental officials in the event of a full-scale nuclear exchange”. However, with the Cold War over, the article went on to speculate that “as the Bush administration wages its war on terror, Mount Weather is believed to house a ‘shadow government’ made up of senior Washington officials on temporary assignment”.

No outsiders have ever been allowed inside Mount Weather, but Richard Pollock, an author and a regular contributor for Progressive Magazine, interviewed several individuals who claimed to have previously been employed on site within the mountain. The interviewees said the base had its own lake with fresh spring water, independent power generation, cafeterias, hydroponic gardens, hospitals and transportation system as well as residential apartments. They also said Mount Weather has its own fire and police departments and, as you can no doubt imagine, its own laws too.

Taking the speculation about a shadow government in The Guardian article one step further, Pollock reported the underground facility has its own replica government, which apparently is every bit as comprehensive as the official government above ground.

Dulce Base

One of the most commonly referred to sites mentioned by underground base researchers is an unconfirmed one said to exist below the small and almost entirely Native American-populated town of Dulce, in New Mexico.

There are many stories of government collaborations with aliens in Dulce Base where all manner of exotic research is apparently conducted within its seven or more vast subterranean levels and numerous tunnel offshoots. By all accounts this includes advanced mind control and psychotronic warfare experiments as well as genetic engineering.

Some Dulce researchers believe levels 5 and below are occupied entirely by alien personnel and house technologies also alien to this planet. The deepest sections of the underground base are apparently connected to an extensive cave system, which as we’ve mentioned seems to be common theme for most underground bases.

Aliens in Dulce Underground Base,New Mexico

Aliens purportedly in residence in Dulce Underground Base in New Mexico.

Dulce is believed to have interconnected bases in New Mexico, including the rumored ones at Sandia Base and White Sands, with tunnel systems linking them all. Perhaps tellingly, part of the aforementioned almost 140 mile-long and still not fully discovered cavern system known as The Lechuguilla Cave is said to extend under some of the bases Dulce connects to.

Dulce Base first came to the public’s attention in 1979 when New Mexico businessman Paul Bennowitz was convinced he had intercepted communications between antigravity flying machines and underground installations in the area. In the 1980’s, Bennowitz claimed he’d discovered the Dulce Base. The story spread like wildfire in conspiracy circles and the UFO community in particular.

In the 1990’s, US commercial airline pilot John Lear, the son of Lear Jet designer William P. Lear, also claimed he had confirmed the existence of Dulce Base, independently of Bennowitz. However, this is tempered by the writings of political scientist Michael Barkun. The professor emeritus of political science at New York’s Syracuse University believes that Cold War underground missile installations in New Mexico falsely excited ufologists and conspiracy theorists. In Barkun’s opinion there’s nothing else there to support rumors of an underground base at Dulce or rumors of supposed human-alien collaborations.

But many Dulce locals, as well as quite a few independent researchers, continue to maintain there is a large site beneath the town.

Norio Hayakawa, a New Mexico resident who has independently studied Dulce Base for decades, wrote an article dated March 28, 2007 on the Rense.com website, which detailed his extensive research into the Dulce rumors over the years.

Hayawaka mentions in the article how in 1990 he worked with a visiting Japanese television crew to attempt to confirm the alleged existence of an “underground U.S./alien joint bio-lab” beneath Dulce. He also mentions that when interviewing locals with the Japanese TV crew, he and the Japanese were detained by the town’s Police Chief, Hoyt Velarde, without any valid reason being given. According to Hayawaka, Chief Velarde warned them, “Don’t you ever ask any more questions regarding such a base. I have nothing to do with it and I do not want to talk about it!”

Hayawaka implies that Velarde’s choice of words seemed to indicate the Dulce Base was known to the police.

Upon returning to Dulce in 2007 to investigate further, Hayawaka says “the son of the former head of the Dulce Police Department took me to the site of Project Gasbuggy. Project Gasbuggy was a rather ‘strange’ 1967 government project which involved a large underground nuclear explosion (29 kilotons of TNT) deep inside the high plateau area 25 miles south of Dulce, allegedly to release natural gas from deep under the ground. It was a joint project with El Paso Natural Gas Company. What is not frequently mentioned in association with this curious project was that the huge nuclear explosion had created, deep, huge underground extensive caverns all over the area along with extensive natural “tunnels”.”

Unsurprisingly, Dulce Base has featured regularly in popular culture, including an episode of Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura titled Ancient Aliens,Pittacus Lore’sbestselling young adult book series The Lorien Legacies, an episode of the History Channel program UFO Hunters, the 2012 video game Ghost Recon: Future Soldierand the comic series The Invisibles in which Dulce Base is shown to house a secret vaccine for AIDS.

The Montauk Project

The abandoned Montauk Air Force Station in Camp Hero State Park, Montauk Point, Long Island, NY, has long been the source of many an exotic conspiracy theory, most of which usually involve underground locations. For example, it’s rumored that Paperclip Nazi scientists worked at the mysterious Long Island military facility commonly known as Montauk.

The area takes its name from the region’s original inhabitants, the Montauk Indians, who according to the courts no longer exist as a tribe even though remaining Montauk tribal members insist they do still exist. But that’s a whole other conspiracy theory!

Many independent researchers have described Montauk as a secret research facility where they claim psy-ops like remote viewing and time travel experiments took place for decades before the site was eventually shut down. Some conspiracy theorists even say there was a more advanced version of the infamousPhiladelphia Experiment conducted at Montauk. You may recall the original experiment allegedly rendered a US Navy vessel invisible to enemy radar and listening devices – a story denied by the US Navy. These top-secret experiments were known as the Montauk Project and were reportedly carried out in nine subterranean levels beneath the abandoned Air Force station.

Quite a few Montauk Point locals have reported sightings of high-tech equipment being taken underground, and tunnels and subterranean bases beneath the region have long been rumored within the tightknit community.

In the 2010 TV documentary Inside Secret Government Warehouses, produced by the US cable network Syfy, the filmmakers went to Montauk to see if they could confirm the existence of underground facilities. No tunnels or underground facilities were found. However, ground-penetrating radar devices were also used and, although not completely conclusive, they appeared to show evidence of some kind of underground chamber directly below ground – a conclusion confirmed by the independent radar technicians operating the devices.

The TV crew also revealed a vast network of tunnels beneath nearby historic resort hotel Montauk Manor. Many commentators believe these tunnels lead directly to the Air Force station and were built as part of the mysterious Montauk Project.

Other confirmed and rumored underground bases

Cheyenne Mountain is NORAD’s confirmed underground bunker at Colorado Springs, in Colorado. It was developed during the Cold War complete with missile defence systems and advanced space technologies, and is still in operation today. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) facility is basically a self-sustained city built inside the mountain. Some conspiracy theorists say tunnels extend from Cheyenne Mountain to other underground bases around the nation including Denver and Dulce Base.

Denver International Airport (DIA) is said to have an underground base concealed directly below its tarmac. Around the airport there are numerous fenced-in areas covered in barbed wire. To our eyes at least this seems a tad unusual even for an international airport. What’s also strange about DIA is there are Masonic symbols everywhere and freaky artwork depicting cities ablaze, women in coffins and dead babies adorning the airport’s walls.

One of the many bizarre murals at Denver International Airport.

Supposedly, there’s also an underground base below the town of Kokomo, Indiana. For over a decade, Kokomo locals have reported hearing a hum coming from below ground – a hum that’s so extreme some have become sick. It has even forced some residents to leave town. Following numerous complaints, the mysterious humming sound has been formally investigated, but investigations have not revealed a likely cause.

After living with the problem for many years and sharing information on the grapevine, many Kokomo locals now believe the hum is actually vibrations caused by machinery operating far below ground. This tallies with the beliefs of independent underground base researchers who insist large-scale subterranean excavations and tunnelling are occurring beneath Kokomo.

Many have also claimed there’s a vast underground complex beneath Area 51, in Nevada, and that it also contains (perhaps literally) out-of-this-world technologies. (See chapter 29 for a detailed analysis of Area 51).

“Since the early 1960’s, the American citizenry have been the unwitting victims of government fraud, perpetrated on a scale so vast that it staggers the imagination … The total amount exceeds 40 trillion dollars … The government has built an entirely new underground civilization … In this new society, there is no poverty, no crime or illicit drug use. In this new society, healthcare is affordable, energy is free, public transport is efficient. And you, the American tax payer have paid for it all.” –Dr. Steven J. Smith. Excerpt from the paper Underground Infrastructure –The missing forty trillion dollars.

Secret underground sites around the world

Mezhgorye is an enormous underground military facility in Russia’s Ural Mountains, close to the city of Mezhgorye. The sprawling subterranean facility apparently required more than 10,000 workers to build it and spans over 400 miles! The military site has never been acknowledged by the Russian Government, or by the Soviet one before it. However, America received intelligence confirming its existence in 1992, according to an article The New York Times ran in 1996.

Some underground researchers believe the Vatican also holds subterranean secrets. And we’re not speaking of the known basement areas like the Vatican empire’s Necropolis or the Secret Archives, but rather an ancient network of tunnels, chambers and mysterious buildings miles beneath it.

Down in the hidden bowels of the sovereign Catholic state, bizarre ceremonies are said to be performed by Vatican cardinals, bishops and priests. Ceremonies which have nothing to do with Catholicism and everything to do with the religions of ancient Egypt and Babylon. But that, too, is a whole other conspiracy theory and something probably best left to bestselling author Dan Brown.

vaticanpagereverse.jpg (88256 bytes)

The mother of all underground bases may actually exist in the Southern Hemisphere. In the heart of Australia, the underground facility known as Pine Gap is known about, yet not known about. Officially a joint defence and satellite tracking station, it has been reported by local media that nobody in the Australian Federal Parliament, not even the Prime Minister, has any meaningful information about the US-run base. Local Outback residents have reported seeing massive quantities of food and supplies being delivered for what could be an enormous city below ground. Apparently Pine Gap was constructed on top of the deepest drilling hole in Australia and is about five miles deep.

The curious case of Philip Schneider

One of the most out-there, yet hard-to-dismiss testimonials supporting the existence of underground bases and the rumored ET’s some of them hide, is that of American Philip Schneider (1947-1996).Although very few records exist on the man and his military career, Schneider stated he was a geologist and former government military engineer. More controversially, he also claimed to have been involved in a firefight that broke out with Extra-terrestrials while he was building additions to the underground military base at Dulce, New Mexico, in 1979.

Schneider said he was one of only three survivors in the humans vs. aliens battle in which 66 US Delta Force soldiers were killed. Although Schneider survived, he had severe flesh wounds and burns to his entire body – wounds he claimed were the result of some kind of radiation weapon the ET’s fired at him.

In the mid-1990’s, Schneider began giving lectures all over the world about what he said was the absolute truth regarding ET’s living below Earth’s surface. During one such lecture, at the Preparedness Expo in November of 1995, he said, “Right now military technology is about 1200 years more advanced than public state technology.”

Philip Schneider testified to the existence of underground bases.

During another lecture, Schneider mentioned how in 1954 the Eisenhower administration disregarded the Constitution by signing a treaty with the ET’s.The treaty was apparently named The 1954 Greada Treaty. In the same lecture, he mentioned a human-looking alien who was “one of the aliens who has been working for the Pentagon for the last 58 years.” He then produced a photograph of this supposed alien and showed it to the audience and the cameraman filming the lecture.

Providing a possible insight into the Splinter Civilization’s monetary resources, Schneider claimed that since 1940’s the US Government had spent almost one quadrillion dollars building hundreds of underground bases all over America.

In the course of delivering these lectures – some of which were filmed and are available for anyone to see on the Internet – Schneider displayed visible injuries, including missing fingers and chest wounds, which he claimed were a legacy of the battle with the ET’s. To back up his statements, Schneider also produced what he claimed were classified photographs, ancient alien fossils and non-Earth metal ores retrieved from Dulce Base.

In his last recorded lecture, Schneider told his audience there had been 13 murder attempts on his life by government agents intent on preventing him continuing to inform the public of the existence of ET’s. He said he was speaking out because, “I love my country more than I love my own life.”

Schneider was found dead in his apartment in Wilsonville, Oregon, on January 17, 1996, several days after he’d died.

As with everything else in Schneider’s life, his death was also shrouded in mystery. Initially, the Clackamas County Coroner’s office said he’d died of either a stroke or a heart attack. Then they changed their story to suicide. It’s also worth noting that all the geologist’s documents relating to underground bases, as well as the alleged alien artifacts that he’d begun showing to audiences, went missing and have never been seen since.

Cynthia Drayer, Schneider’s ex-wife, is one of many who firmly believe Schneider was murdered to prevent him from leaking anything more about the ET-human interactions occurring below ground.

An interesting footnote to Philip Schneider’s life is that he claimed his father, Oscar Schneider, revealed to him on his deathbed that he was not the German Jewish immigrant he’d always proclaimed to be, but was actually an ex-Nazi. Schneider’s father also apparently revealed he was a Paperclip scientist. Actually, make that a pre-Paperclip scientist as he was hustled in to America at the start of WW2 to conduct scientific research for the US Government long before Project Paperclip even existed.

Schneider’s father went on to tell him that as an American scientist he was involved in the Philadelphia Experiment. He also told his son about other exotic and clandestine government projects that may have included early underground bases, although Schneider couldn’t be sure.

Schneider said he was shocked his father revealed all this to him on his deathbed. By all accounts there wasn’t time to compare both of their experiences before Schneider Senior died.

Whether Schneider’s father was in any way responsible for the top-secret military clearance levels his son attained or indeed whether Philip Schneider’s own claims about working in underground bases are true, remain pure speculation and will probably never be proven or disproven.

As one would expect, without undeniable evidence or absolute proof left behind to confirm Schneider’s story, there are as many skeptics as believers. The former include some who insist they’ve debunked all his claims about underground bases and ET’s.

On the other hand, it could reasonably be argued undeniable evidence is exceedingly difficult to obtain when it comes to proving the Splinter Civilization exists and is in our midst.

“The North Atlantic seems to be very significant and is possibly the largest sea base in European waters. Other reported underwater bases are in South America waters – in the areas of Puerto Rico and Brazil – in Antarctica and other deep unobserved areas of ocean.” –Tony Dodd. Former British police officer.

Undersea bases

Could there also be secret military facilities under our ocean floors?

In 1969, the Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, California, published a report titled The Feasibility of manned in-bottom bases. The report states, “The construction of thirty in-bottom bases within the ocean floors is technically and economically feasible … The cost of such a base program would be about $2.7 billion”.

Now keep in mind that was in 1969. So given the multi-trillion dollar black budgets numerous researchers claim the US Government and its agencies have access to annually, who is to say undersea bases weren’t financed and built as long ago as the 1970’s?

Interestingly, the Stanford Research Institute’s 1969 report also states that deep submergence vehicles would need to be developed to build undersea bases. The following year it was announced Lockheed had launched deep sea vehicles with the necessary capabilities to do just that.

According to a lecture that independent researcher Dr. Richard Sauder gave at the Xcon 2004 conference, there could easily be US-built undersea bases in the Persian Gulf, the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

Dr. Sauder, author of the 1996 book Underground Bases and Tunnels: What is the Government Trying to Hide?, also spoke of the US Navy’s undersea test and research center off the coast of Andros Island, in the Bahamas. He speculated that the facility, which is known as AUTEC (Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Centre), could be a front for an undersea complex of secret bases.

On May 1, 2008, UK newspaper The Telegraph ran an article about China’s underwater sea bases. The article, which contained satellite imagery of base openings on Hainan Island, China, states there’s “a network of underground tunnels at the Sanya base on the southern tip of Hainan island”. The article also states that the tunnels allow Chinese submarines to travel out into the ocean from the base completely undetected.

“Of even greater concern to the Pentagon,” the article continues, “are massive tunnel entrances, estimated to be 60ft high, built into hillsides around the base … While it has been known that China might be developing an underground base at Sanya, the pictures provide the first proof of the base’s existence and the rapid progress made”.

Although likely to be more complex and costly to build than bases beneath land, undersea bases would obviously provide even more secure hideaways for the Splinter Civilization to go about their business. It’s unlikely China and the US would be the only countries building undersea bases for their naval advancements and other purposes.

We’d be remiss not to add that a few conspiracy theorists – most likely of the Tinfoil Hat variety – believe that senior Nazis built an undersea colony beneath Antarctica and even lived there after WW2 ended.

This base was supposedly at or off the coast of New Swabia, which was explored and claimed as a territory by Germany just before WW2 – in early 1939. The Antarctic region was named after that expedition’s ship, the Ms Schwabenland. However, the region’s official exploration is where the facts end and the (possibly lunatic) theories begin.

One such theory insists that hundreds of Nazi flying saucers were stored in the New Swabia undersea colony. Not only that but a secret nuclear war occurred there in the late 1980’s between the US and the surviving Nazis, causing the ozone hole over the South Pole and “false” global warming issues!

Even the South Pole can’t escape the Tinfoil Hatters!

You gotta love the Tinfoil Hat Network. What they lack in anything resembling evidence, they make up in spades for with blockbuster-style entertainment.

Admittedly, we have no idea how many of these undersea and underground bases are real and how many are pure fiction. Nor do we know the extent of activity in the known subterranean bases or whether ET’s are present.

Anyone desperate enough to learn the truth could approach scientists, engineers and military personnel who have worked at confirmed underground bases and try to prize information out of them. Truthseekers could also go to areas where subterranean bases are rumored to exist and use ground penetrating radar devices to see if manmade levels, structures and machinery show up below.

However, anyone considering such action should probably keep in mind that the line between independent investigator and conspiracy crackpot is often a thin one…Actually, maybe we should have kept that in mind ourselves before we agreed to write this book!
