In summarizing our book THE CATCHER IN THE RYE ENIGMA: J.D. Salinger’s Mind Control Triggering Device or a Coincidental Literary Obsession of Criminals?  we acknowledge the alleged conspiracy surrounding Salinger’s novel The Catcher in the Rye  has already been studied ad nauseam. The conspiracy we refer to, of course, is that many high profile assassination victims or intended victims have been connected with Salinger’s classic. (For those yet to catch up with this, refer to our blog of August 16).

JFK and John Lennon…amongst the alleged victims.

And we acknowledge the general consensus by experts is that it is a mere coincidence the criminals involved committed, or at least planned, such horrific crimes after reading Salinger’s book. However, we also ask our readers how many of the so-called experts know about MK-Ultra  and the highly documented history of mind control? And how many are aware of the intelligence community’s experiments proving Manchurian Candidates are indeed possible?

Here’s an excerpt from our book that addresses these very questions:

We’re certainly not implying we are experts, but it’s a fact that most who have analyzed Catcher  conspiracy theories have been authorities in either literature or criminology with highly specific knowledge in their chosen fields. Perhaps to more accurately assess this subject a prerequisite would be to have a broader knowledge of such topics as the way intelligence agencies operate, the dark history of assassinations and suspicious lone gunmen, and Project Paperclip’s Americanized Nazis as well as understanding how advanced the science of mind control really is.

We ain’t saying Catcher  is definitely a mind control mechanism for those who have been brainwashed by intelligence agencies. But at the very least, the book had an accidental and unintended influence on some of the most heinous and high profile crimes of the 20th Century. And to us that seems very convenient or coincidental or suspicious – take your pick.

“They say music can alter moods and talk to you / Well, can it load a gun up for you and cock it too? / Well if it can, and the next time you assault a dude / Just tell the judge it was my fault, and I’ll get sued.” -Eminem, lyric from Sing for the Moment

Just like any good story, maybe there’s a few facts hidden within the fiction and a healthy dose of fiction buried amongst the facts. Perhaps J.D. Salinger never bothered to publicly comment on the crimes associated with his book as he liked the mystery that surrounded it.

And on that note let’s allow the man himself have the final word…

“It’s partly true, too, but it isn’t all true,” Salinger wrote in The Catcher in the Rye. “People always think something’s all true.”

JFK, John Lennon, Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan, Madonna, Jodie Foster are just some of the high profile assassination victims or intended victims who have been connected with J.D. Salinger’s classic novel The Catcher in the Rye.

The Catcher in the Rye

In our book THE CATCHER IN THE RYE ENIGMA: J.D. Salinger’s Mind Control Triggering Device or a Coincidental Literary Obsession of Criminals?, we remind readers that the murderers, stalkers and their victims and targets are all either confirmed or rumored to be part of the enduring Catcher mystery. The allegation leveled at Salinger is that he craftily implanted into his book coded messages that act as post-hypnotic suggestions or mind control triggers, which, in turn, enabled CIA handlers to activate Manchurian Candidates for planned assassinations.

It could be argued that, at best, those murders are only loosely related to Catcher  for it was, after all, a critically acclaimed masterpiece and one of the biggest selling books of the 20th Century.

We expand on this in The Catcher in the Rye Enigma. Here’s an excerpt from a chapter titled ‘The argument against the Catcher conspiracy’:

Given its worldwide popularity, the fact that the book was found in the possession of a few killers – a handful at most – could just be pure coincidence.

Today, if some new Presidential assassin or serial killer had a copy of The Da Vinci Code  or a Harry Potter  book in their possession, would anyone blink? And even though religious books such as the Bible, the Qur’an (Koran) and the Torah have inspired innumerable assassins, madmen and terrorists – some well known, some not – surely that doesn’t mean there are insidious mind control programs infused in their writings?

What about John Lennon’s killer Mark David Chapman? we hear you ask.

Yes, the man was completely obsessed with the book, but then again so, too, were countless other (normal) young people around the world in the decades following its publication. Many commented they felt as if Holden Caulfield was voicing their own inner reality and the angers and frustrations they felt in their own lives. And for those who are insane, as Chapman appeared to end up, a work as brilliantly and intensely written as Salinger’s novel was bound to reach the darkest corners of their brains, encouraging those individuals to take the story too literally, or out of context, or both.

People who are mentally ill often obsess over all kinds of artworks – such as Michael Jackson’s music, Stanley Kubrick’s movies or Andy Warhol’s paintings – believing there are dark messages embedded in those works, instructing them to kill. It’s simply a case of criminal minds latching on to warped ideas and dark concepts in popular culture. And certainly Catcher is not the only novel to inspire murders, and it won’t be the last.

As Aidan Doyle wrote on December 16, 2003 in a article entitled When books kill: “A copy of ‘The Turner Diaries’ was found in Timothy McVeigh’s car when he was arrested. The novel was written by a leader of the National Alliance and tells the story of a white supremacist group that overthrows the government and subsequently eradicates nonwhites as well as race traitors. The narrator destroys FBI headquarters by detonating a truck loaded with ammonium nitrate and fuel oil. McVeigh used a similar mechanism to destroy the federal building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people.”

The same article also mentions it’s not just books that have inspired killings. “A $246 million lawsuit was lodged against the makers of the game Grand Theft Auto III by the families of two people shot by teenagers allegedly inspired by the game. Such movies as ‘Natural Born Killers,’ ‘A Clockwork Orange’ and ‘Money Train’ have routinely been accused of inspiring copycat crimes.”

It has been estimated more than 100,000,000 people have read Catcher. With only a few crazy incidents attributed to it, you could reasonably argue this is not a bad record and certainly isn’t enough to justify outlandish conspiracy theories.

Having vast amounts of knowledge, or being a walking encyclopedia, is a common trait in geniuses, and even more so in polymaths – and probably the simplest way to gain this amount of knowledge is to learn to read very, very fast.

English author and education consultant Tony Buzan was no doubt alluding to this when he said the early development of speed reading could be traced to the beginning of the (20th) century, when “the publication explosion swamped readers with more than they could possibly handle” at normal reading rates.

In our thriller series The Orphan Trilogy, we were faced with ‘designing’ an education program that would turn our fictitious orphan-operatives into veritable geniuses. And speed-reading is at the very core of the radical education program we came up with.

However, our orphans’ technique is much more advanced than the majority of speed-reading programs currently available to the public. Many such programs simply offer complementary reading skills rather than allowing for a whole new way to absorb the written word.

As we say in book one in our trilogy, “It wasn’t so much speed-reading as mind photography – a technique where the practitioner taps into the brain’s innate photographic memory. The orphans were taught how to use their eyes and open their peripheral vision to mentally photograph the page of a book, magazine or newspaper at the rate of a page per second. Then they’d consciously recall every detail as if they’d read the material at normal, everyday reading speed. Tens of thousands of books, on all manner of subjects, were sent to the Pedemont Orphanage to keep up with the children’s prolific reading habits.”

The technique we wrote about was inspired by the most sophisticated speed-reading methods in the real world, as well as analysis of renowned speed-readers. It’s also based on the brain’s scientifically proven ability to pick up things subliminally and rapidly. By incorporating peripheral vision and photographic memory, it’s possible to mentally scan or photograph entire pages at a time rather than one word at a time.

This method enables our orphans to read at the rate of about 20,000 words per minute. That’s many times faster than most readers can manage. In fact, the average reading speed is only 300 words per minute, or about one page per minute.

Although some skeptics – along with one or two book critics who reviewed our thriller series – have expressed doubt over whether the human brain can absorb such vast quantities of data all at once, speed-reading is not fiction. And it has some famous devotees.

Various US Presidents were confirmed or rumored speed-readers. They include Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy and Jimmy Carter.

theodore-roosevelt.JPGTheodore (Teddy) Roosevelt, a self-taught speed-reader, is reported to have read a book before breakfast every single day while serving as president. Teddy’s recall was said to be perfect and he would often quote from the books he read. Kennedy studied under American speed-reading expert Evelyn Wood who could read at an impressive 6000 words a minute. JFK claimed he could read at around 2000 words per minute with a very high comprehension rate.

John F. Kennedy, White House color photo portrait.jpg

        JFK…another speed reading President.

Carter, who also studied speed-reading during his time in the White House, took courses with his wife Rosalynn and their daughter Amy.

The fact that Dwight D. Eisenhower said “Don’t be afraid to go in your library and read every book” may well allude to the fact he was yet another US president who could speed read. After all, who else but a speed-reader would have the time or ability to read every book in their local library?

Bestselling author, life coach and motivational speaker Anthony Robbins practices speed-reading and recommends it to audiences, personal clients and his readers.

In 2007, when J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was published, six-time world champion speed-reader Anne Jones was the first to read it. Jones finished the 200,000-word, 759-page hardcover book in 47 minutes flat. Immediately afterwards, she completed a book review and sent it out to media outlets to prove her total comprehension of the story.

Reading time…47mins!

Jacques Bergier, French Resistance fighter, spy, journalist, chemical engineer and author of the bestselling book The Morning of the Magicians, was a born speed-reader. He started reading magazines and newspapers as a toddler, and by the age of four was fluent in three languages. By the time he reached adulthood, Bergier was reading 10 books a day.

New Yorker and State University graduate Howard Berg was listed in the 1990 Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s fastest reader. His reading speed was clocked at a remarkable 25,000 words per minute. Berg says his skill was developed out of boredom. He spent his childhood in the library, which was apparently the only place in the world that interested him.

Autistic savant Kim Peek (1951- 2009) was one of the world’s foremost speed-readers. The real-life inspiration for Dustin Hoffman’s character in the 1988 movie Rain Man, Peek read at between 10,000 and 20,000 words per minute and had a 98% comprehension rate. His method was to read two pages simultaneously, one with each eye. Spending most of his days in the public library in Salt Lake City, Utah, Peek read many thousands of books.

Kim Peek…the real Rain Man.

Of all the examples of speed-readers, living or deceased, Peek’s methods are closest to those described in The Orphan Trilogy. We sincerely hope in years to come scientists will figure out exactly how Peek so readily absorbed information from books so that children can be taught the technique the world over.

“In junior high, Robbins took a speed-reading course and began consuming what would be nearly 700 books through high school, mostly on psychology and personal development.” –December 27, 2013 article about Anthony Robbins in Investor’s Business Daily.

Since the term speed-reading was coined by Evelyn Wood more than 50 years ago, the skill has featured in various TV series and Hollywood movies.

In the 1996 feature film Phenomenon, lead character George Malley, played by John Travolta, exhibits extraordinary speed-reading skills.

Dr. Spencer Reid, one of the main characters on the hit TV series Criminal Minds, is also a speed-reader.

There’s a speed-reading scene in the 2004 spy film The Bourne Supremacy, starring Matt Damon, in which CIA agent Pamela Landy, played by Joan Allen, is seen reading agency files at rapid speeds. Landy uses her finger to run up and down over text on each page. This finger pointing method is a real speed-reading technique known as Meta Guiding.

Matt Damon…a closet speed reader?

In Good Will Hunting – another Matt Damon movie – Damon, who plays natural-born genius Will Hunting, is seen alone in his apartment flipping through page after page of a book without pause.

Whether these two films on the actor’s resume are just a coincidence or whether he’s a closet speed-reader himself is anyone’s guess.

“Modern research has shown that your eye-brain system is thousands of times more complex and powerful than had previously been estimated, and that with proper training you can quickly reap the benefits of this enormous potential.” –Tony Buzan

In summary, any seeker serious in becoming a genius should put speed-reading at or near the very top of his or her list of necessary skills to acquire.

We recommend avoiding any of the common speed-reading courses that mention terms and phrases like chunking, skimming, skim-reading or reading whole sentences at a time – or indeed any courses that only promise students the ability to read two to five times quicker than the average reader.

Instead, we advise seeking out less common reading methods that claim to allow readers to absorb knowledge at or close to one page per second reading speeds. At least 10,000 words per minute would be a wise guideline for pursuing the most advanced reading systems. Signs of super advanced speed-reading techniques are the use of such terms as peripheral vision, reading photographically, subliminal learning, limbic system, subconscious reading, photographic memory and the midbrain in any promotional material.

In our ‘Underground Knowledge’ discussion group on Goodreads we ask: Do you believe Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone gunman in the JFK assassination as per the US Government’s official story?

JFK and Jackie in the limousine as it makes its way through Dallas.

JFK and Jackie on than fateful day in Dallas in 1963.

Judging by members’ responses to date, a more appropriate question may have been: Does anyone believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone?

Here’s a sample of poll responses received (names withheld):

Who in the world would vote yes to this question?

I have always thought that it was one of the Secret Service Agents who was ‘protecting’ him that fired the kill shot. Who else had better access, had a legitimate reason to have a firearm during the incident, and after the first two shots would have a perfect cause to draw their weapon. During the confusion and Jackie’s over the top hysteria it would have been very easy for the agent to fire the final shot, unnoticed. He would not have used his service piece thinking they would be tested – I plead ignorance to knowing if they ever were tested by the Warren Commission. I’ve never read that piece of drivel, figured the government puts out enough propaganda without me going and actually searching for more of it.

I can’t understand any “Yes” vote on this one. All the evidence, ballistic, eye witness, logical, and inferential makes this a no-brainer to all but the Warren Commission and the other uninformed. That is merely stating that Oswald had at least one more partner; collusion by two or more being the legal definition of conspiracy. Who were they? Motives abound…The only fault I find in this argument is that by now I would have expected someone to take credit on their death bed…Unless the CIA killed him or them right away.

More than 50 witnesses testified at the time of the Warren Commission that they heard or saw a shot coming from that fence area to the front of the president. So that would fit the old grassy knoll theories (but maybe that’s all too obvious, I don’t know).

I actually believe That Jackie did it…If you watch the video you see her hand reach behind him and the bullets exit wound comes out of the top. I will attempt to link it…… At frame 309 you see her arm behind him at frame 313 you see that the exit wound is nearly straight up meaning it came from behind and below. You can also see a silver object in her right hand that she hides within the back seat.

Jackie was the poster woman for America and she was loved by leaders of foreign countries. She was considered one of the best assets the US had at the time, from all I’ve read. No suspicion could touch her, and if they were at home alone and she was going to try to claim a gunman came in and attacked them and she was trying to kill the gunman but killed Jack instead or whatever, there would always be that doubt, like we now doubt the government’s story about Oswald. Jackie just could not be tainted, she was too valuable to the government.

I want to know the motive of them to kill him. Maybe it was related to the Apollo mission.

Officially, Osama Bin Laden died in 2011 in Pakistan, but was that really him? To this day conspiracy theorists argue that Bin Laden was just a fabricated and much-needed bad guy manufactured by the Military Industrial Complex to enable it to legitimately wage the so-called War on Terror.

Osama bin Laden in 2010

Osama Bin Laden…a manufactured bad guy?

We investigate events surrounding the death of Bin Laden and those surrounding the deaths of many other people, too, in our book THE ORPHAN CONSPIRACIES: 29 Conspiracy Theories from The Orphan Trilogy. Those other people, incidentally, include the likes of Princess Diana, JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King, Pope John Paul I, Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon etc.

Our findings make for some interesting reading and serve as a reminder that not all is what it seems.

Getting back to Bin Laden, here’s an excerpt from the book:

In the FBI’s Vault records, the following appears on the Muslim leader’s file: “Usama (or Osama) Bin Laden, founder of the al Qaeda terrorist organization, was born in Saudi Arabia in 1957. On March 10, 1984, Bin Laden and others killed two German nationals. On March 16, 1998, authorities in Tripoli issued an arrest warrant for him for murder and illegal possession of firearms. Bin Laden was also wanted for the August 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. He was killed by U.S. forces in May 2011.”

Furthermore, FBI records clearly label Bin Laden as the mastermind of 9/11, and as a result he inherited the mantel of Most Wanted during the War on Terror.

To most in the West – mainstream media included – the US Navy Seals’ termination of Bin Laden in Pakistan is where the terrorist leader’s story ends, but not for any conspiracy theorist worth his or her salt. They would argue there are too many unanswered questions and cute coincidences surrounding the man’s death – and surrounding his life, too, for that matter.

And conspiracy theorists aren’t the only ones raising questions. Media reports throughout the Middle East, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan have been awash with quotes from locals purporting to know the truth about Bin Laden. These reports speculate everything from his dying years earlier, even before 9/11, to still being alive and free today.

The Express Tribune, of Pakistan, reported that polls showed two-thirds of Pakistanis did not believe US reports stating Navy Seals had assassinated Bin Laden, and less than a quarter believed he was responsible for the 2001 terrorist acts on American soil.

More recently, Western media has joined in the speculation. For example, leading UK newspaper The Daily Mail ran an article on February 12, 2014 headed, U.S. special forces ordered the destruction of Osama bin Laden’s death photos two weeks after top secret seek and destroy mission to kill him. And The Wall Street Journal reported that an Egyptian bank manager formerly associated with the Muslim extremist claimed to be certain Bin Laden had died many years before the US announced they’d killed him.

Several prominent American celebrities have also publicly voiced their skepticism surrounding US claims regarding Bin Laden’s demise.

Bin Laden watches TV in his Pakistani safehouse.

Shortly after Bin Laden’s death was announced, former US Navy Seal Jesse Ventura made an interesting observation in a television interview that aired on CNN in June 2011. He reminded viewers of earlier reports stating “Bin Laden was on a dialysis machine 10 years ago.” Ventura added, “Experts have said the disease he suffered from is generally fatal within two years. How did he manage to survive 10?”

And back in 2007, American hip-hop artist and film star Mos Def appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher where he called Bin Laden a “boogeyman” and implied his whole existence was nothing more than a fabrication by the US Government to blame 9/11 on.

But let’s return to the crux of the story…After more than a decade of failing to find Bin Laden, suddenly he’s tracked, located and then killed? All in one evening? And on top of that, there’s not one shred of evidence to prove any of this occurred?

File:CIA aerial view Osama bin Laden compound Abbottabad.jpg

An aerial view of Bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan (above) and the compound up close (below).

File:Osama bin Laden compound2.jpg

As President Obama and his team of intelligence advisors watched real-time footage of Bin Laden’s termination in the comfort of the White House’s situation room, it was reported the then-director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, Michael Leiter, was first to speak. Apparently, Leiter said, “Holy shit!”

That’s not all he said, but bear with us. We just want to draw out the suspense a little.

“I don’t need facial recognition,” Leiter reportedly added. “We just killed Bin Laden!”

So clearly, nobody on American soil knew for a fact it was Bin Laden.

What about in Pakistan then? Surely, someone confirmed they’d just taken out the most wanted man on the planet?

Well, you’d think so, wouldn’t you? But this is where it gets a little murky.

After what seemed a surprisingly short period of time, a White House spokesman informed the world’s media that Bin Laden’s body had been flown to the USS Carl Vinson aircraft-carrier in the Arabian Sea where it (the body) was cast overboard in a weighted bag. The spokesman said this was all done “in conformance with Islamic precepts and practices”.

What the…?

Did we hear that right? Instead of keeping evidence in conformance with Western precepts and practices, the United States of America vetoed its own laws and diligently adhered to the customs and religious rituals of the world’s most wanted terrorist and those of the country that harbored him?

Again: What the…?

Remember, the bodies of Saddam Hussein’s sons, Uday and Qusay, were kept for 11 days before finally being buried. America didn’t go out of its way to follow Islamic protocols on that occasion, and nobody in the West complained about that.

But wait, it gets stranger still…

obama, may 1, 2011

The Obama Administration released an image (above) to the media showing President Obama, Hillary Clinton and other members of the National Security team watching the raid live. According to the Administration, the footage came from a camera attached to a Navy Seal’s helmet. However, this was contradicted when CIA director Leon Panetta emphatically stated the feed had gone dead “for around 20 to 25 minutes” during the raid.

If the CIA director is correct, does that mean the photo of Obama, Clinton and others was staged in order to sell a story? What other conclusion could be drawn?

American anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed on duty in Iraq, also questioned how the US had matched Bin Laden’s DNA with a member of the terrorist’s family in less than 24 hours. “The only proof of Osama being dead again that we were offered,” Sheehan wrote on her Facebook page as CNN reported on May 5, 2011, “was Obama telling us that there was a DNA match between the man killed by the Navy SEALs and OBL. Even if it is possible to get DNA done so quickly, and the regime did have bin Laden DNA lying around a lab somewhere — where is the empirical proof?”

Cindy Sheehan at White House.jpg

Cindy Sheehan in front of the White House.

Sheehan concluded her Facebook post, “I am sorry, but if you believe the newest death of OBL, you’re stupid.”

Wikipedia accurately summarizes the persistent conspiracy theory surrounding the terrorist leader as follows: “Doubts about bin Laden’s death were fueled by the U.S. military’s disposal of his body at sea,the decision to not release any photographic or DNA evidence of bin Laden’s death to the public, the contradicting accounts of the incident (with the official story on the raid appearing to change or directly contradict previous assertions),and the 25-minute blackout during the raid on bin Laden’s compound during which a live feed from cameras mounted on the helmets of the U.S. special forces was cut off”.

Maybe all this smoke around Bin Laden’s demise doesn’t indicate a fire. And maybe all the perceived plot holes were caused by an unfortunate series of coincidences and misunderstandings – the type that lead to conspiracy theories blossoming out of nothing.

Hmmm…Those are big maybes.

Less than six months before he was assassinated, President Kennedy had begun formulating a new Federal Reserve Act, which many say would have restored the US Federal Reserve to a fully-fledged US Government bank.

John F. Kennedy, White House photo portrait, looking up.jpg

President Kennedy went after the Fed.

A little-known Presidential decree – Executive Order 11110 – was signed by Kennedy on June 4, 1963. It would have deprived the Federal Reserve of its ability to loan money to the Government at interest. By signing the document, President Kennedy was attempting to put an end to the Fed – or at least the Fed as we know it.

Without going into the specifics of Executive Order 11110, it arguably could have stopped the US from reaching its record-level national debt.

Seven theses on the present crisis - João Bernardo

Instead, JFK was assassinated as we all know. But what is less known is the United States Notes the President had issued as part of the executive order – notes which were designed to replace the Federal Reserve Notes – were immediately taken out of circulation.

To this very day, the Federal Reserve Notes remain in circulation as the currency all Americans use.

And, of course, what also remained post JFK was a central bank only nominally under the Government’s control.

We provide an illuminating snapshot of the history of central banking in the US and the evolution of the Fed in our new release book…

The rumors persist that 9/11 was an inside job: bombs, not planes, leveled Twin Towers; inside traders knew about the 9/11 attacks before they happened; Air Defense was ordered to stand down etc. etc.

Image of Twin Towers on September 11th 2001

As the rumor mill continues to churn out theories on what happened on that unforgettable day in 2001, we are reminded of an incident in US history that could have resulted in the officially sanctioned murders of countless American citizens.

The incident we refer to is ‘Operation Northwoods’ – an especially murky episode in American history. It features prominently in the very first chapter of our new release book THE ORPHAN CONSPIRACIES: 29 Conspiracy Theories from The Orphan Trilogy. Here’s an excerpt:

In 1962, the US Government’s Department of Defense and Joint Chiefs of Staff proposed carrying out acts of terrorism on American soil to justify military intervention in Cuba.

Hard to swallow or believe, we know, but it’s on the record. Numerous military and intelligence documents recording these disturbing false flag proposals, known as Operation Northwoods, have since been declassified.

Operation Northwoods remained a secret for 35 years. The sinister proposal first came to the public’s attention in November 1997 when The John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Review Board declassified various top secret military records, which included the Northwoods documents. The following year, the National Security Archive published further revealing information on Northwoods.

A (since declassified) ‘Top Secret’ memo dated March 13, 1962, addressed to the Secretary of Defense and signed by then-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff makes for interesting reading. Its subject line reads: Justification for US Military Intervention in Cuba.

Item No. 1 on that memo reads: “The Joint Chiefs of Staff have considered the attached Memorandum for the Chief of Operations, Cuba Project, which responds to a request of that office for brief but precise description of pretexts which would provide justification for US military intervention in Cuba.”

Operation Northwoods’ plans included the sinking of US war ships, shooting down hijacked passenger planes, killing innocent American citizens, letting off bombs and orchestrating other violent terrorist acts in major cities including Washington DC and Miami.

Every event would be blamed on Fidel Castro and the Cuban regime. The Joint Chiefs of Staff’s logic was that these events would help gain enough support from the American public and the world at large for a US military invasion of Cuba.

Fortunately, President Kennedy immediately rejected the Northwoods proposal and fired one of its main proponents, Lyman Lemnitzer, who was then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

President Kennedy with his Joint Chiefs of Staff incl. Lemnizter (third from left).

The following year, Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, while Lemnitzer was appointed Supreme Allied Commander of NATO.

Go figure!

In his 2001 book Body of Secrets, US political journalist and bestselling author James Bamford wrote that Operation Northwoods “called for innocent people to be shot on American streets; for boats carrying refugees fleeing Cuba to be sunk on the high seas; for a wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington, D.C., Miami, and elsewhere. People would be framed for bombings they did not commit; planes would be hijacked. Using phony evidence, all of it would be blamed on Castro, thus giving Lemnitzer and his cabal the excuse, as well as the public and international backing, they needed to launch their war”.

Sadly, Bamford is one of the few well-known political commentators to write about Operation Northwoods. When the documents were declassification in 1997, they were almost universally ignored by the media.

Apparently on-the-record discussions within the US Government about murdering its own citizens as propaganda to create a war were not deemed newsworthy.
