Breaking news: International media reports that US and Denmark have announced a deal on Greenland’s security following President Donald Trump’s threats to seize the territory by force. This bombshell development was prefaced by likely outcomes listed in the new-release book MYSTERIOUS GREENLAND: Frontier of the Breakaway Civilization co-authored by James and Lance Morcan.
BBC News reports: “Trump said the agreement would grant the US “permanent control over security, and all other needs (while) Denmark’s Prime Minister said the deal ‘strengthens security in the Arctic and the North Atlantic area’… The deal comes after months of threats by Trump to ‘take’ Greenland over national security concerns, citing its strategic location for defence purposes and its mineral wealth.”
In MYSTERIOUS GREENLAND the authors advise readers “The United States is keenly motivated to control Greenland as the world’s biggest island remains key to its maintaining a strategic foothold in the Arctic; for Europe the region represents a frontier of joint security and environmental stewardship; for China it is part of a broader strategy to expand globally and to secure resources; and for Russia it represents a region where other nations’ Arctic positioning must be countered.”
In a chapter titled ‘Ownership and headlines’ the Morcans predicted this outcome, reminding readers of Trump’s declaration that “Essentially, it (Greenland) is a large real estate deal…It’s hurting Denmark very badly because they’re losing almost $700 million a year carrying it.”
Another chapter titled ‘Trump’s Vision for the North’ is kicked off with a more recent Trump quote that reads: “Remember Greenland, that big, poorly run, piece of ice!!!”
The authors also remind readers that, in ‘Trump: The Art of the Deal’, Trump wrote “I aim very high, and then I just keep pushing and pushing and pushing to get what I’m after.’
Seems very appropriate where Greenland is concerned.
Readers are reminded that Greenland has a strong Independence Movement that is growing in popularity. This movement pre-dates Trump’s years in the White House by decades, and many Greenlanders wish to fully break free from Denmark.
Chuffart and Johnstone, of The Arctic Institute, summarized it well when they said, “Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland…The Greenlanders are recognized as a ‘People’ in international law, with full rights to determine their own future.”
With a stroke of the pen, it appears that may no longer be the case.
