Susan Fox was lost in thought as the cab she traveled in negotiated the city’s rush-hour traffic. Her destination was the Sheraton Grand Hotel in South Hope Street – the venue for a celebration of the recent re-election of Los Angeles’ popular mayor, Dean Lopez.
Twenty-two-year-old Susan, or Suzie to friends and colleagues, was attending the function in her capacity as a member of the mayor’s now disbanded election team of voluntary canvassers. That successful exercise, along with a glowing testimonial from an appreciative Mayor Lopez, had helped secure her a sought-after position as an account executive with a prestigious boutique public relations firm. It was her first job, her first real job, since graduating from UCLA where she excelled in the allied fields of communications and journalism.

The old SNJ Navy trainer made a perfect wheels-up, dead-stick landing in Lake Winnebago. As it came to a halt 25 yards from the beach, the pilot’s desperate effort to open the canopy proved useless. The canopy is locked. A moment later, he watched a woman with a rock in her hand, smashing the canopy to bits. She continued to pound the Plexiglass and throw the shards away while shouting for him to remove all restraint straps. The moment the opening in the canopy was large enough, she pulled him out of the plane just as it began to sink to a watery grave. She then had to help him swim to shore.
The pilot is Captain Josh Wiley, the best Navy fighter pilot the Navy has ever produced. Captain Wiley has recently been given complete control of the Top Gun School in Fallon NV. The woman who saved him is Sidney Davies, a retired commander of a Marine ground-support helicopter squadron.
Captain Wiley’s assignment has been to check F-15 fighter jets for compliance with a sales contract…a contract signed by the President with the Saudis. The Captain has uncovered a serious problem.
Captain Wiley’s survival from the crash make him a target for assassination and, by assisting him, Sidney has also become a target. THE DOGON INITIATIVE (The Deniables, Book 1) currently has a 4.8 star rating (out of 5 stars) on Amazon and a 4.6 star rating on Goodreads, showing that reviewers are resonating with this new release novel by New Zealand father-and-son writing team Lance and James Morcan.
Co-authors of the bestselling historical adventures WHITE SPIRIT and INTO THE AMERICAS, and the thrillers SILENT FEAR and THE ORPHAN TRILOGY, the Morcans say their latest novel and the series it has spawned, or is about to spawn, were inspired by the belief American intelligence contracts foreign mercenaries to undertake clandestine missions abroad.

And then only with the aid of telescopes. Every year, Dogon used the occasion to celebrate Moussa’s discovery and to pay homage to the greatest of all their spiritual leaders. Moussa had ruled over Dogon when the Mali Empire was the largest in West Africa. With that flavor of credible authenticity the story proceeds – mood set, characters arise. Apropos of the authors the lead character is Australian – security consultant Dean Hawkins. Or as the summary of the plot states, ‘A group of foreign mercenaries hired as deniable assets by a newly-formed humanitarian division of the CIA is tasked with saving Mali’s persecuted Dogon people from genocide. The operation must be carried out in stealth while journeying across some of West Africa’s most hostile terrain. They are also instructed to help solve an ancient astronomical mystery linked to the pyramids of Egypt. Nicknamed the Deniables because their existence isn’t officially acknowledged by the CIA, the mercenaries are crazy enough to accept the mission anyway.
