By the mid-1800’s, Fiji has become a melting pot of cannibals, warring native tribes, sailors, traders, prostitutes, escaped convicts and all manner of foreign undesirables. It’s in this hostile environment an innocent young Englishwoman and a worldly American adventurer find themselves.
Susannah Drake, a missionary, questions her calling to spread God’s Word as she’s torn between her spiritual and sexual selves. As her forbidden desires intensify, she turns to the scriptures and prayer to quash the sinful thoughts – without success.
Nathan Johnson arrives to trade muskets to the Fijians and immediately finds himself at odds with Susannah. She despises him for introducing the white man’s weapons to the very people she is trying to convert and he pities her for her naivety. Despite their differences, there’s an undeniable chemistry between them.
When their lives are suddenly endangered by marauding cannibals, Susannah and Nathan are forced to rely on each other for their very survival.
Their tale unfolds in the historical novel Fiji — described by one reviewer as “a spellbinding novel of adventure, cultural misunderstandings, religious conflict and sexual tension set in one of the most exotic and isolated places on earth.”
That’s the premise behind the epic horror-mystery Silent Fear (A novel inspired by true crimes) — by the writers of The Orphan Trilogy, Into the Americas and White Spirit.
In Silent Fear, Scotland Yard detective Valerie Crowther is assigned to investigate the murder of a student at a university for the Deaf in London, England. The murder investigation coincides with a deadly flu virus outbreak, resulting in the university being quarantined from the outside world. When more Deaf students are murdered, it becomes clear there is a serial killer operating within the sealed-off university. A chilling cat-and-mouse game evolves as the unknown killer targets Valerie and the virus claims more lives.
As the book’s subtitle suggests, Silent Fear is a novel that was inspired by true crimes. Those crimes being the murders of Deaf students at the prestigious Gallaudet University, in Washington, D.C. The investigating authorities didn’t know if the killings were ‘inside jobs’ and for a time nearly everyone connected to Gallaudet was under suspicion.
A multi-genre epic available in paperback and ebook form, it has equal appeal for fans of horror, mystery, crime-thrillers, sci-fi and romance.
Amazon Top 500 reviewer Susan Elliot describes it as “A riveting crime novel.” Elliot writes, “There is so much to like about this book: the plot, the pace and the characters all came together in the most riveting crime novel that I’ve read in a long time.” She warns readers, “Do not read it on a train. You may just miss your station.”
Amazon Australia Top 50 reviewer Todd Simpson describes Silent Fear as “Simply Splendid.” Simpson writes, “There is so much to love about this entertaining and well written murder mystery…Hands down this is a wonderful book, and well worth a read.”

Sterling Gate Books has launched The Adventures of John Jewitt, the 19th Century public domain book that was the inspiration for Lance and James Morcan’s bestselling historical adventure novel Into the Americas.
A book by Jewitt, about Jewitt.
Written by Jewitt himself, his story is a tale of two vastly different cultures – indigenous North American and European civilization – colliding head on; his adventures in the Pacific Northwest must surely rank as one of history’s greatest wilderness survival stories.
A young John Jewitt… Note the forehead scar left by a Mowachaht warrior’s tomahawk.
When the nineteen-year-old blacksmith boarded the brigantine The Boston in his home port of Hull, England, in 1802, he couldn’t have envisaged what awaited him upon arrival in Nootka Sound, Vancouver Island, off the west coast of the country now known as Canada. Jewitt was one of only two survivors when fierce Mowachaht warriors slaughtered twenty-five crew members aboard the brig. He and his fellow survivor had to endure more than two years as slaves of the First Nations people of Nootka.
The Boston arrives at Nootka Sound.
According to Jewitt’s diary entries, the Mowachahts’ slaughter of his crewmates was quite premeditated. Unfortunately, his description of the events leading up to the massacre doesn’t tell the full story, which is that the Mowachahts – like most or all the tribes of the Pacific Northwest – had put up with many, many years of abuse by successive Spanish, English and American traders. History shows that the abuse ranged from unfair trades to the frequent rape of indigenous women and all too often to murder.
There’s no denying the Mowachahts were savage. Jewitt himself writes of their savagery. However, he also refers to the kindness and generosity of his captors and their love of family, and we note the examples he gives far outweigh references to their savagery.
Thanks to Jewitt’s fondness for the written word and his diligence in maintaining his diary entries throughout his captivity, we have been left with an intriguing insight into his life, and into the lives of First Nations people. His account is made all the more extraordinary by virtue of the fact that such interaction between whites and the tribes of the Pacific Northwest was virtually unheard of and certainly never before (and seldom since) written about in such detail.
In his self-effacing way, a modest Jewitt explains how his work ethic, his friendly nature and his willingness to accept the native peoples as his equal endeared him to many of his captors. He even married a local maiden who bore him a son – though he makes little mention of this in his writings other than admitting his wife was very pleasing on the eye. (Georgian era attitudes perhaps dissuaded him from revealing more).
Such was his eye for detail, John Jewitt leaves the reader with a clear understanding of the Mowachahts’ customs, language, daily work habits, hygiene, trading, hunting, whaling and fishing techniques, diet and food preparation, potlatches, housing (they lived in lodges left by Spanish visitors), tree-felling and canoe-making, toolmaking and weapons, worship, feuds and settlement of intertribal disputes. How Jewitt eventually engineered his freedom makes for entertaining reading.
Mowachaht warriors paddle to war.
All this, and more, will become evident as you read The Adventures of John Jewitt (The true story that inspired Into the Americas). The book also has 10 original illustrations.

So…why would the military need a top-secret film studio in Hollywood? And why did they make more films than Hollywood combined for a period?? And why would they hire some of the most cutting-edge cinematographers and special effects wizards to moonlight on classified films?
In the following interview excerpt from the Underground Knowledge podcast, I talk with Californian author/researcher Tantra Bensko about the military’s formerly top-secret Los Angeles film studio, Lookout Mountain Laboratory. And try to find out why most of the films shot there remain classified to this day…

Membership of our Underground Knowledge group – one of the most active and fastest-growing groups on the Amazon-owned book site Goodreads – has now topped 8,000. New Undergrounders (members) are attracted by the topics being debated. Topics that are edgy, controversial, contentious, insightful, informative, educational and, most significantly, outside of the daily diet of mainstream (doctored) news.
Little wonder that Undergrounders are of all political and religious persuasions, come from all walks of life and from all corners of the globe, think outside the square, don’t necessarily accept what they tell us, and are insatiably hungry for the news behind the news.
Our members include award-winning authors and journalists, scientists, historians, researchers, teachers and students, surgeons and doctors, conspiracy theorists, members of the intelligence community and armed services (past and present), corporate execs and unemployed, globetrotters and homebodies – and many more.
One thing they have in common is an enquiring mind and a desire to gain or share underground knowledge. They resonate with the group’s aim, which is to encourage debates about important and underreported issues of our era.
Here’s an overview of some of the group’s discussion threads:
Membership of our new discussion group Silent World on Goodreads.com is growing rapidly. Established as a place to discuss all the unique aspects of Deaf culture as highlighted in our new release thriller Silent Fear (A novel inspired by true crimes), it’s also a meeting place of sorts where Deaf and hearing people can engage and learn from each other.
In researching Silent Fear over many years, we discovered the Deaf community really is a unique and diverse global community. We trust the book, and the group it has inspired, will encourage members to share other books (and films) by or about the Deaf, and even inspire other storytellers to include Deaf characters in their works. (It has been our observation there is a dearth of Deaf characters in literature, cinema and television).
We also hope the Silent World group will eventually become an interactive discussion platform for the Deaf community, and encourage deeper engagement between Deaf (and hard of hearing) and hearing people.
Our historical adventure White Spirit (A novel based on a true story) features as the February Giveaway on multi-genre author and blogger Marie Lavender’s popular book lovers’ blog at http://bit.ly/2BMt0ST — Three Kindle copies are on offer. Be in to win! Entries close Feb.12th.
As everyone knows, most conspiracy theories are BS.
However, what about the lesser known and under-reported “conspiracy FACTS”?
The latest episode of the ongoing podcast series UNDERGROUND KNOWLEDGE is all about revealing such conspiracy facts…In this episode I outline 17 mind-blowing facts…Which prove that the conspiracy field is more nuanced than commonly acknowledged…
“In 1977, Carl Bernstein published an exposé of a CIA program known as Operation Mockingbird, a covert program involving, according to Bernstein, “more than 400 American journalists who in the past 25 years have secretly carried out assignments for the Central Intelligence Agency.” Bernstein found that in “many instances” CIA documents revealed that “journalists were engaged to perform tasks for the CIA with the consent of the managements of America’s leading news organizations.”
Operation Mockingbird was a secret campaign by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to influence media. Begun in the 1950s, it was initially organized by Cord Meyer and Allen W. Dulles, it was later led by Frank Wisner after Dulles became the head of the CIA.
The organization recruited leading American journalists into a network to help present the CIA’s views, and funded some student and cultural organizations, and magazines as fronts. As it developed, it also worked to influence foreign media and political campaigns, in addition to activities by other operating units of the CIA.

“A team of researchers in conjunction with the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research is developing what they are calling a micro aerial vehicle (MAV) that will undertake various espionage tasks. The robotic insect can effortlessly infiltrate urban areas, while being controlled from a long distance; and it is equipped with a camera and a built-in microphone.”
“Questions about the Gulf of Tonkin incidents have persisted for more than 40 years. But once-classified documents and tapes released in the past several years, combined with previously uncovered facts, make clear that high government officials distorted facts and deceived the American public about events that led to full U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.” -U.S. Naval Institute
“Mentally retarded children housed at the Willowbrook State School in Staten Island, New York, were intentionally given hepatitis in an attempt to track the development of the viral infection. The study began in 1956 and lasted for 14 years.
The researcher also wanted to determine the effectiveness of gamma globulin injections as protection against hepatitis. They justified their deliberate infections and exposures by claiming that given that there was a high rate of infection in the institution it was practically inevitable that the children would become infected.”
Number 12: The 1933 Reichstag terror attack…A Nazi false flag attack
“There is enough evidence to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that it was the Nazis who planned the arson and carried it out for their own political ends.” -Shirer, William (2011). The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Simon and Schuster. p. 192.
