Hi
Welcome to Morcan Books & Films, the blog devoted to providing a unique perspective and intelligent commentary on books and films. It includes commentary on our own books and films – i.e. novels and screenplays co-written by the Morcans, and feature films produced by, or in development with, Morcan Motion Pictures.

In The Catcher in the Rye Enigma: J.D. Salinger’s Mind Control Triggering Device or a Coincidental Literary Obsession of Criminals? we dissect Salinger’s 1951 classic novel The Catcher in the Rye – and not everyone’s happy about that judging by some reviewers’ comments.
Some reviewers, it seems, don’t like the fact that we remind readers Salinger’s often-banned, often-censored bestseller was branded communist propaganda by American school principals and more than a few teachers were fired for assigning it to students. Little wonder Salinger’s Catcher was nicknamed ‘the Bible of teenage angst’ and, from 1961-1982, it was the most censored book in libraries and high schools across the US.
Nor do some reviewers appreciate being reminded that Catcher either directly inspired or was associated with some of the most infamous crimes of the 20th Century.
Presidential assassins and would-be Presidential assassins, stalkers and murderers of film stars and music icons are among the known deranged individuals who were obsessed with Salinger’s book – a book which many claim to be an assassination trigger device. The allegation pointed at Salinger is that he craftily implanted into the book coded messages that act as post-hypnotic suggestions or mind control triggers. In turn, these enabled CIA handlers to activate Manchurian Candidates for planned assassinations.
Many believe the novel was part of the CIA’s extensive mind control program known as MK-Ultra, and that while assassins, or future assassins, were being brainwashed they were forced to read the book over and over until it was embedded in their minds.
These ideas and others have been covered in pop culture, especially in the 1997 film Conspiracy Theory, in which Mel Gibson’s character carries a copy of Salinger’s book with him at all times. The cleverly-written film, which at first appears to be nothing but a lightweight romantic comedy co-starring rom-com queen Julia Roberts, becomes more intense as the story progresses and it’s revealed Mel Gibson’s character is entwined with the CIA and is a mind control victim of the agency’s MK-Ultra program.
Season three of the TV series Criminal Minds features an episode called Limelight in which the character of David Rossi, played by Joe Mantegna, mentions having once interviewed serial killer Ted Bundy who told him, “If you wanna stop people from becoming like me, don’t burn Catcher in the Rye.”
An episode of the animated TV series South Park also covers the mind control theory in a humorous way when one of the show’s young characters reads the book then picks up a knife and starts saying, “Kill John Lennon, kill John Lennon.” The boy is disappointed when his father informs him the former Beatle was assassinated years earlier.
But seriously, can The Catcher in the Rye really wake MK-Ultra sleeper assassins from their slumber? That’s up to readers to decide by the end of our book, The Catcher in the Rye Enigma.
It must be noted the idea that assassination codes are buried deep in Salinger’s book is one of the oldest conspiracy theories around and has often been explored over the decades. In fact, many readers familiar with Catcher conspiracies may think all the theories have already been proven to be false and there’s no need to drag them up yet again.
Given what we’ve unearthed in our research for this book and indeed the entirety of The Underground Knowledge Series – especially the unique revelations on the history of mind control, the effectiveness of subliminal messages, the latest scientific studies on the brain, the Americanized Nazis in Project Paperclip and the recently declassified documents on real-life Manchurian Candidates – we believe some of the theories swirling about Salinger’s classic deserve another look.

Membership of our Underground Knowledge global discussion group on Goodreads.com – the site for books, readers and authors – topped 9,000 this week, making it one of the biggest, fastest-growing groups on the Amazon-owned site.
We originally formed this group as a little experiment… Simply to see if anyone else would be interested in citizen journalism or if they wanted to freely discuss all those topics mainstream media almost never covers. We’ve been pleasantly surprised by the huge interest from members all over the world.
Our aim is to encourage debates about important and underreported issues of our era. All you need is an enquiring mind and a desire to gain or share ‘underground knowledge’. Everyone’s welcome!
In 1998, one of us (James) took a guided tour through the Pentagon, the US Department of Defense headquarters in Arlington County, Virginia. It was quite an eye-opener.
The tour guide was a young military staffer and the other 50 or so tour party members included a chubby, garrulous boy of about eight or nine who spoke with a southern drawl and was constantly eating. Between mouthfuls of food, the boy interrupted the tour guide’s running commentary in a loud voice, asking, “What about the levels below the Pentagon, sir?”
The tour guide politely but firmly replied, “Son, there are no levels below the Pentagon, what you see is all there is.”
That reply seemed to satisfy the boy until about five minutes later he repeated the question and received a near identical response. This same question-same answer pattern continued for the remainder of the tour, visibly raising the young staffer’s aggravation levels every time he was interrupted and forced to answer the persistent boy.
In all likelihood the boy had watched TV shows or movies referencing the conspiracy theory which insists there are miles of tunnels, subterranean levels and underground bunkers below the Pentagon, suggesting what’s seen above ground is merely the tip of the iceberg.
Pure fantasy? Imagine for a moment a reality where all the technologies that futurists have predicted have already been invented and are currently being used by a privileged few.
There have been numerous reports of scientific inventions that never saw the light of day even though they were perfected and ready to go on the market. Rumors of these radical inventions date back to the post-Industrial Revolution period in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, and have persisted right up to and including the present day.

ALTERNATIVE THINKING BOOKS LISTED IN THE UNDERGROUND KNOWLEDGE GROUP
Membership of our Underground Knowledge group – one of the most active and fastest-growing groups on the Amazon-owned book site Goodreads – has now topped 8,000. New Undergrounders (members) are attracted by the topics being debated. Topics that are edgy, controversial, contentious, insightful, informative, educational and, most significantly, outside of the daily diet of mainstream (doctored) news.
Little wonder that Undergrounders are of all political and religious persuasions, come from all walks of life and from all corners of the globe, think outside the square, don’t necessarily accept what they tell us, and are insatiably hungry for the news behind the news.
Our members include award-winning authors and journalists, scientists, historians, researchers, teachers and students, surgeons and doctors, conspiracy theorists, members of the intelligence community and armed services (past and present), corporate execs and unemployed, globetrotters and homebodies – and many more.
One thing they have in common is an enquiring mind and a desire to gain or share underground knowledge. They resonate with the group’s aim, which is to encourage debates about important and underreported issues of our era.
Here’s an overview of some of the group’s discussion threads:
As everyone knows, most conspiracy theories are BS.
However, what about the lesser known and under-reported “conspiracy FACTS”?
The latest episode of the ongoing podcast series UNDERGROUND KNOWLEDGE is all about revealing such conspiracy facts…In this episode I outline 17 mind-blowing facts…Which prove that the conspiracy field is more nuanced than commonly acknowledged…
“In 1977, Carl Bernstein published an exposé of a CIA program known as Operation Mockingbird, a covert program involving, according to Bernstein, “more than 400 American journalists who in the past 25 years have secretly carried out assignments for the Central Intelligence Agency.” Bernstein found that in “many instances” CIA documents revealed that “journalists were engaged to perform tasks for the CIA with the consent of the managements of America’s leading news organizations.”
Operation Mockingbird was a secret campaign by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to influence media. Begun in the 1950s, it was initially organized by Cord Meyer and Allen W. Dulles, it was later led by Frank Wisner after Dulles became the head of the CIA.
The organization recruited leading American journalists into a network to help present the CIA’s views, and funded some student and cultural organizations, and magazines as fronts. As it developed, it also worked to influence foreign media and political campaigns, in addition to activities by other operating units of the CIA.

“A team of researchers in conjunction with the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research is developing what they are calling a micro aerial vehicle (MAV) that will undertake various espionage tasks. The robotic insect can effortlessly infiltrate urban areas, while being controlled from a long distance; and it is equipped with a camera and a built-in microphone.”
“Questions about the Gulf of Tonkin incidents have persisted for more than 40 years. But once-classified documents and tapes released in the past several years, combined with previously uncovered facts, make clear that high government officials distorted facts and deceived the American public about events that led to full U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.” -U.S. Naval Institute
“Mentally retarded children housed at the Willowbrook State School in Staten Island, New York, were intentionally given hepatitis in an attempt to track the development of the viral infection. The study began in 1956 and lasted for 14 years.
The researcher also wanted to determine the effectiveness of gamma globulin injections as protection against hepatitis. They justified their deliberate infections and exposures by claiming that given that there was a high rate of infection in the institution it was practically inevitable that the children would become infected.”
Number 12: The 1933 Reichstag terror attack…A Nazi false flag attack
“There is enough evidence to establish beyond a reasonable doubt that it was the Nazis who planned the arson and carried it out for their own political ends.” -Shirer, William (2011). The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Simon and Schuster. p. 192.
Hot topics being debated in our Underground Knowledge global discussion group on Goodreads this week include:
Childhood immunizations — Are vaccines for kids as safe as Big Pharma claims they are?
Nick says: “I’ve been vaccinated for a long time, but interestingly enough, in order to work in hospitals for my job, I need to have certifications of said “vaccines” or I’m not allowed to even be on campus! I’m doing just fine and everyone I know that has been vaccinated is fine too….my question is has anything changed in recent years regarding these vaccines? It seems that there is a higher incidence of Autism diagnosis now than ever(and I realize that it’s still relatively new when discussing disorders). I guess my point is this-it was never an issue when I was a kid, but it seems to be an incredibly hot debate now…what has changed?! Thoughts?”
Extensive biblical revisions made by the Romans
James says: “Here’s one author’s answer, coming from a mainstream Christian perspective, about their interpretation of the New Testament’s promise of an Afterlife and specifically its location: “Where is heaven? What is the location of heaven?” https://www.gotquestions.org/where-is… “Heaven is most certainly a real place. The Bible very definitely speaks of heaven’s existence—and access to heaven through faith in Jesus Christ—but there are no verses that give us a Mapquest-style location.”
The Psychology of Politicians and Government
Ian says: “It is an intriguing question. The ones I have met seem to have this delusion that they “know” what society needs, they have the gift of being able to convince people to do what they need doing, and they seem to have the gift of persuading people that they will help. In practice, with some exceptions, they really do very little themselves. There was an MP in my electorate once who was there once. After the obligatory introductory speech, he only spoke once more in his whole time there, and was ruled out of order by the speaker! Basically, a lot of them are little more than vote fodder.”
Dangerous drugs Big Pharma doesn’t want you to know about
Vera says: “There are so many cancer drugs out there and so much chemotherapy causing countless terrible side effects for patients. If we want to really help patients and save lives, the scientific community needs to become serious about cancer prevention! For example, did you guys know that a virus may cause breast cancer in as many as 40 percent of cases? Instead of throwing drugs and chemotherapy at patients, doctors and scientists could create a vaccine that targets this virus and actually prevents breast cancer. Check out this link to learn more about the virus: http://www.breasthealthandhealing.org…
Are aliens visiting Earth or not????
Christopher says: “Have I seen a UFO, yup. Have I encountered an alien face to face, probably. The memories are still fragmented. Are they real? As real as a heart attack. I’ve met people that were behind the scenes of a lot of weird stuff, met people that have seen what the government has and is doing with it. Roswell was the real deal, no question. You take someone’s first-hand experience and your beliefs have a starting point.”
Is the brain the origin of our consciousness? OR is the brain merely a receiver?
Mahesh says: “The mind is different from consciousness, take this example, higher animals like human beings, dogs and cats will have minds, but the cells will not have minds. They will have consciousness. So, we can say that mind is the conglomeration of many cells, and each of them is having consciousness till it has the life. Life means an ability to produce energy to sustain and reproduce itself. Therefore, the mind is the combination of many cellular systems of consciousness.”
Finding (hiding) a cure for cancer
Laurette says: “If big Pharma is in the drivers seat most likely there will be no cure. I believe they know and understand much more than they allow to be public knowledge. How often we see that someone who is sick has a shopping bag full of pills. One pill creates a problem so another is given to treat that problem and so on and so forth. It is disgraceful considering the technology today and the many breakthrough’s in medical science. I believe the following article gives us something to think about. Out of fear those diagnosed with a disease swallow whatever the doctor orders and common sense is thrown out the window. I believe that many cures for many things are available if we don’t lose hope and have the courage to investigate. http://allnewspipeline.com/Holistic_D… “
CHANNELING: Real or Fake? An Alternative Explanation
Gary says: “I’ve been intrigued for years by the phenomenon known as channeling. I first became aware of this activity back in the 1970s with the publication of The Seth Material by Jane Roberts. The next popular channeler to hit the scene was J.Z. Knight, channeling the entity named Ramtha. Then came Lee Carroll’s Kryon. Soon there was Sheldon Nidle and the Galactic Federation of Light, Barbara Marciniac with the Pleiadians and Phyllis Schlemmer’s Council of Nine. Many more have followed in their wake, perhaps numbering in the hundreds just in America alone, although most of them are not as well known. I’ve attended four channeling sessions, by four different channelers, out of curiosity. What intrigued me about all of them, and about all channelers in general, is that it’s virtually impossible to know if they’re really channeling or if they’re faking it.”
