The latest poll in our Underground Knowledge discussion group on Goodreads.com  has struck a chord with most respondents indicating they believe a universal income for all citizens would be beneficial.

We put the following question to group members: Do you believe your country would prosper from having a Universal Income aka “Basic Income” (i.e. a bare minimum wage unconditionally granted to all citizens)?

Interim results show: 57% say YES / 38% say NO / 5% are UNSURE.

A random selection of poll respondents’ comments follow:

As someone who believes in Capitalism, I previously would have voted NO on this subject. But having now researched it in depth and seen the success stories of trials done in Canada and EU countries, I can see the merits and therefore voted YES.

I think being able for a country/state/city to provide citizens with basic needs is an excellent idea. ..and who knows. ..it may end up cutting down welfare costs in the long run.

I would never be in favor of a minimum income if welfare didn’t go away. It’s double dipping. You have income. Ok, need more? You are responsible to go get it. This is separate from charitable efforts if someone is medically challenged. This has always been an aspect of society–to take care of the helpless.

Countries/states/cities that have trialed the basic income idea have found cases of domestic violence, petty crime, drug addiction and ill-health caused by poverty have all dropped by a significant amount.

Finland is doing it. We’ll have direct evidence of its effects. Beside, Finland analysts have shown how the maneuver will actually SAVE money for the State. At the same time, they will remove a costly bureaucratic apparatus to manage unemployment benefits, requests and their processing, paperwork, and much more.

To live people need enough money to do so. If you remove all income from people then they have no choice but to turn to crime, to survive. Therefore it is insane not to have a basic income for the lowest of the low but those actually working should earn more as an incentive to do so.

I can see the value in doing a minimum wage to every American. If we simplified the tax code, we could use it also to substitute for the many tax credits like “earned income” which is essentially a refund for taxes NOT paid. There would be a lot of saving on complexity.

I’ve recently had this discussion on Linked In at the following, albeit with a slightly different op ed introduction to the issue. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/univer…

I voted no because the question did not say anything else would go away, so I had to assume this redistribution of income would be IN ADDITION to programs that already exist. Now, if the question was worded to say it would replace those programs, then I’d have to rethink my answer but it would likely not change because people need to have the support especially among those who are inept.

These days I tend to think a smart nation should be generous with social welfare and assume that there will be a small element (maybe 5-10%) who “free load”.

This poll was inspired by this excerpt of INTERNATIONAL BANKSTER$: The Global Banking Elite Exposed and the Case for Restructuring Capitalism posted in this discussion thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/…

Interim results of the latest poll in our Underground Knowledge discussion group on Goodreads.com  show that nearly two thirds of respondents believe prostitution should be legalized.

In response to the question Should prostitution be legalized?  65% say YES / 27% say NO / 8% are UNSURE.

A random selection of poll respondents’ comments follows:

In order to make it taxable? “Cleaner” & safer environment? Show that we have all have the power to do what we please with our bodies? Will this in any way minimize forced prostitution?

I believe that Prostitution should be legal as long as the person involved is of legal age and it can be ascertained that s/he is entering into the deal without coercion or force (if that can ever be proven). It is already legal in Nevada and the reports seem to be good.

Legalizing prostitution and recognizing it as a legitimate practice would create a safer environment than making it illegal, just like history shows about alcohol and drugs. It isn’t directly about power, either, but freedom.

I favor legalizing of prostitution for various reasons, the most important being the conditions surrounding the sex workers.Forced or not, they’re subject to extreme exploitation which can be reduced to a great extent by legalization.

Being a libertarian, I think victimless crimes should be decriminalized. You cannot legislate morality. However, even after legalization, trafficking and procurement (pimping) of women occurs.

When you make a victimless crime, you create a criminal (and a victim of the system.)

I feel the legalizing it will make it safer and cleaner, It will not stop the issue of human trafficking anymore than legalizing Marijuana has stopped people from selling it. The Prostitution has been around for ever and has shown to be successful and safe in many countries. Criminalizing it just ties up resources that can be better used else where.

By making prostitution legal, avoids making sex workers victims, and frees up law enforcement to focus on human trafficking in general and slavery in particular.

By making these things which people have done since the beginning of time illegal it puts power in the hands of criminals, and makes criminals of victims.

Our freedom of speech philosophy and no-rules policy appeal to fellow Undergrounders (members of our Underground Knowledge discussion group on the international literary site Goodreads.com) if the group’s burgeoning membership is any guideline: membership has just topped 1200, making it one of the fastest growing groups of its kind – if not the fastest – on the popular Amazon-owned book site.

James Morcan discusses Underground Knowledge on Boston's Philosophic Perspectives Radio Show

The Underground Knowledge group has been designed to encourage debates about important and underreported issues of our era. All you need is an enquiring mind, an interest in the world we live in and a desire to learn or share ‘underground knowledge.’

The inspiration for the group was our first non-fiction book The Orphan Conspiracies – a book one Amazon reviewer describes as “More conspiracy fact than fiction.” Another reviewer says, “This book may scare the pants off you!” and yet another says, “Every American should read this book.”

The Orphan Conspiracies: 29 Conspiracy Theories from The Orphan Trilogy

Book the inspiration for our group.

Some of the group’s discussion threads contain literally hundreds of posts by members – a reflection no doubt of the timely and often controversial topics covered in these threads. Examples of those topics are listed in earlier blogs.

Also mighty popular are our ongoing polls. For example, our latest poll, which closes October 16 PDT, asks: What is your opinion of whistleblowers like Edward Snowden, Julian Assange & Bradley Manning who leak classified intelligence information to the public concerning their own government’s criminal activities?

Whistleblowers Manning, Assange and Snowden.

Interim poll results show two thirds of respondents consider them heroes. To view the interim results and comments, or better still to have YOUR say, go to: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/142309-underground-knowledge—a-discussion-group?type=group

Examples of earlier polls include:

Do you believe World Trade Center 7 (aka Building 7), which no plane hit on 9/11, collapsed solely due to fires as per the official story?

Do you believe genius-level intelligence is primarily the result of nature (genes) or nurture (education, environment, parenting etc)?

Do you believe Jesus Christ was a real historical person?

Do you believe Robert (Bobby) F. Kennedy (RFK) was solely killed by the “lone gunman” Sirhan Sirhan?

Do you believe the likes of Bill Gates & Warren Buffett are the richest people in the world as per the annual Forbes Rich Lists?

Do you believe classified mind control technologies are being used by governments on innocent citizens?

Do you believe MARILYN MONROE committed SUICIDE or was MURDERED?

Do you believe A.I. (artificial intelligence) will ever be more advanced/sophisticated than human intelligence?

Do you believe time travel is possible?

Do you believe the Pyramids of Giza were constructed solely to be burial chambers (tombs) for the pharaohs as Egyptologists tell us?

Do you……and the list goes on… Check it out via the above  link.

In the latest poll in our ‘Underground Knowledge’ group on Goodreads.com, we ask members: What is your opinion of whistleblowers like Edward Snowden, Julian Assange and Bradley Manning who leak classified intelligence information to the public concerning their own government’s criminal activities?

Whistleblowers Manning, Assange and Snowden

Interim results show that 68% of poll respondents consider the whistleblowers are heroes; only 10% consider them traitors; some 16% consider them a combination of both traitors and heroes; and 6% are undecided.

Respondents’ comments make for interesting reading. Some of those comments (abridged) follow:

They are both. On one hand they are heroes because they exposed governmental misconduct at personal risk. On the other they are traitors because as government employees they violated an oath and perhaps put some people at risk. What if the military personnel who man the nuclear weapons were given the same freedom to violate their duties? Snowden should be lauded and then put in prison.

These people do the public and their countries a great service which puts themselves in jeopardy!…The three listed above are the ones that stand out most in peoples minds, BUT, there are many others including news reporters who “have accidents” Mike Hastings and Martin Burns being two i know of personally.

The facts could have been shared with Congressmen who write the laws, and could have affected changes these men sought, without compromising the security of this nation or the safety of our people. The Americans are nothing less than traitors and should be shot. Assange has just been exploiting any exposed secrets, to the detriment of any and all nations or people involved.

Risking everything – their jobs/careers, good relationships with colleagues, friends and families, not to mention their own lives! – is something extremely heroic, some might even say foolish. In my opinion though, it shows an extreme level of unrelenting devotion and unbending commitment to one’s principles and morals…

Is it right to rendition and torture people who are innocent, is it right to drone strike civilian targets, is it right to arm train and fund terrorism, is it right to ship major amounts of narcotics into the USA?

NONE OF THAT IS RIGHT!!!

Praise to those who expose it!!

.

Yes, it is the duty of every serviceman or woman to report wrongdoings, and even disobey illegal orders. However, all of the activities divulged were legal under the authorities granted, or they were dealt with using the legal system. Reports must be made through the chain of command, or barring that to the Inspectors General. Neither of those options was chosen.

Contractors hired for wetwork? Yes, very wrong, but not illegal during the Bush/Cheney administrations, because Cheney’s cronies were involved.

.

I don’t think that’s correct, K……. At least some of Assange’s leaks exposed highly illegal activities, for example the footage of helicopter pilots shooting Iraqis for sport including civilians. There were numerous other similar leaks, I’m pretty sure.

.

You can imprison one Manning or Assange, or kill another, but the spirit of whistleblowers is alive and well now and it’s the beginning of the end for the global elite. You cannot kill or imprison them all and what we are seeing so far is literally the first wave of whistleblowers from the military and CIA etc.

Image result for 2016 us presidential election logos

Bernie Sanders, the junior US Senator from Vermont, is by far and away the preferred US Presidential hopeful if the Underground Knowledge group’s on going poll on Goodreads.com  is anything to go by. Sanders has thus far gotten more than twice the ‘vote’ of the nearest candidate.

Bernie Sanders.jpg

Bernie Sanders…poll frontrunner.

In response to the question Who would you like to see win the 2016 United States presidential election?, interim poll results show 29% nominate Sanders / 12% prefer Ben Carson / 12% want Hillary Clinton / 8% want Donald Trump / 5% want Jeb Bush / 4% want Rand Paul.

Interestingly, 12% voted for NONE of the names on this list.

Poll respondents’ comments make for interesting reading. Here’s a few to go on with. (Respondents’ names withheld):

As if the presidency was some great seat of power. But as long as we’re pretending, how about someone like Jon Rappoport, not these decoys, half-wits and criminals.

With the higher IQ of this group, it’s inevitably biased towards Bernie. In fact, I’m a little surprised that anyone else even got a vote at all. If only the whole nation could mirror our group.

I am not impressed with any candidate but Bernie Sanders got my vote!If Joe Biden runs than he will get my vote!

Bernie has a plan, a heart…compassion, experience, and is not a corporate toy who has sold his soul. He is positive, not back biting, not belligerent, simply rational and naming the problems of this oh so corrupt corporate/political structure and advocating alternatives.

If Trump becomes President, we’ll end up being at war w/every country in the world!

(I nominate) Angelina Jolie.

The whole world should be allowed to vote in American presidential election. America controls all our lives.

Ben Carson seems good to me so far…Maybe Trump. But definitely NOT Hillary. *cough cough liar*

Will be a difficult election to predict a winner. Should be some heated debates between the likes of Hillary, Trump, Bernie and Bush!

Something tells me if a genuinely caring and uncompromising American candidate were to come along they would not belong to either of those two parties as “DemoCRIPS” and “ReBLOODlicans” are clearly in bed with big (multinational) corporations.

Have you ever accessed the Deep Web and looked at any of the “secret” content on the Internet that’s not indexed via Google or other regular search engines? That’s the question posed in the latest poll in our Underground Knowledge discussion group on Goodreads.com – and interim results show few have (accessed it).

As of August 26 (US time) only 12% of poll respondents claim to have accessed the Deep Web; the balance either haven’t or are unsure.

A random sample of poll respondents’ comments follows:

I haven’t visited the Deep Web and not sure what technology or software allows one to access it, but recently became interested in the subject as per this discussion thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/…

It seems like the Deep Web could potentially have a lot of positive benefits…Kind of like the last line of defence if governments turn fascist or otherwise totalitarian. For example, the documentary mentioned how the Deep Web is being used in nations like China and Iran where the regular internet is highly censored by those governments and most (innocent) citizens are spied on. But again, the Deep Web definitely seems like a place where networks of criminals can work undetected and orchestrate crimes such as human trafficking more effectively.

As it is with almost everything, what makes the Deep Web dangerous is not the Deep Web itself, but the intent of one when accessing it. For instance, I know that some people go there and download technical books – mostly needed for work/academical reasons – when they can’t find such books anywhere else. That can’t be bad, right? But then again, if you go there looking for bad stuff, you might end up finding it.

My (limited) understanding is the Deep Web is legal content and the Dark Web is illegal content. So I guess I’m primarily focused primarily on the (legal) Deep Web and whether it can eventually become some kind of “Little Brother” technology the masses use to fight back against all the advanced technology of Big Brother… 🙂

No, and it doesn’t have any appeal for me either!

The news media kept telling me only criminals use the Deep Web…But then I heard 96% of the internet is the Deep Web that’s invisible to most users and that accessing the Deep Web is perfectly legal. So the criminal side is just one side to it, by the sounds of it. So now I’m wondering if there may be some useful or even life-changing info in that 96%…But I don’t pretend to understand the Deep Web and the concept is hard to get my head around it.

As far as I know, there is nothing illegal about accessing the Deep Web. What is illegal is to access it with criminal intentions in mind. There are actually very “out there” softwares that allow you to access it with considerable safety.

Deep Web for Journalists – Comms, Counter-Surveillance, Search looks along the lines of what I’m wondering might happen in future i.e. The Deep Web could become a way for whistleblowers to protect themselves.

As the mainstream media has repeatedly reported, there is obviously some really dark and sickening stuff occurring on the Deep/Dark Web – including crimes against children and even the hiring of assassins online to kill other citizens.

Do you believe the likes of Bill Gates & Warren Buffett are the richest people in the world as per the annual Forbes Rich Lists? Or do you believe there is a hidden world of ‘black money’ involving elite individuals with undeclared fortunes that would dwarf those earned by the likes of Gates & Buffett?

That’s the question we’ve put to members of our Underground Knowledge discussion group in our latest poll on Goodreads.com – and so far 79% say they believe there are individuals with fortunes greater than those listed at the top of Forbes Rich Lists.

Only 9% of poll respondents indicate they believe the estimates on the Forbes Rich Lists are roughly correct while 12% are unsure.

A random sample of respondents’ comments follow:

We are living in an illusion after the Riemann shock. The paper money has no meaning now except for our common life in the world. In fact, the present world economy is in the bankrupt state and this evidence has been concealed from our public eyes. Hence Forbes rich list has no meaning but most of us believe that it is true. Maybe great catastrophe of economy will be happened in the near future. How can we survive in this great catastophe?

Not a case of “i believe there are people more wealthy””, i know there are people far more wealthy!!

I suspect Putin may be the richest person in the world. Yet he is not on any list.

The wealth of the Rothschild family is beyond comprehension or valuation!!

In our modern society, scientists invented a monster called financial engineering. It makes the total debt of our society to reach to an unimaginable level. No one in the world knows what is its total amount. Now we are living on the verge of money crisis. Even the wealth of Rothchild family or Royal family cannnot stop this catastrophe.

Lets put it this way, if they all donated just 1% of their money to alleviating poverty, hunger and disease around the world, there would not be children dying every few minutes of malnutrition, water borne diseases, malaria and multiple other reasons. One has only to wonder, “do they want them to die, or are they just so insular and ignorant, that they just don’t care?”

There are others, more secretive, whose financial empires are bigger than the Rothschilds (in my humble opinion). The world of ‘black money’ is like an onion or a Russian doll where you keep peeling back the layers of wealth and each layer is more and more hidden with greater and greater wealth…

Do you believe the War on Drugs is mostly being conducted to reduce the illegal drug trade or make drugs more profitable? We ask that question of members of our Underground Knowledge group in our latest poll on Goodreads.com – and so far 41% of respondents say it’s to make drugs more profitable.

US soldiers on patrol in the poppy fields of Afghanistan.

Some 25% say it (the war) is to reduce the illegal drug trade; 27% are unsure; and 7% cannot say “as I’m high right now and can’t think!”

As in all our polls, some of the respondents’ comments make for interesting reading.

A random selection of comments (abridged) follows:

It goes so much deeper than these four simple response choices. The war on drugs is about control. It has bred such evil corruption within government. The drug forfeiture laws that allow police to basically steal and rob from innocent citizens their property, all in the name of “potential” drug activity, is unconscionable!

I think even if the War on Drugs started out as per the official story (which is a very big IF in my view) these days I agree it’s mostly a cover for one of the biggest money-making operations on the planet. By making them illegal it drives the price way up and by invading drug-producing nations it allows certain superpowers to gain most of the worldwide drug revenue. CIA involvement in decades long large-scale drug operations is all on-the-record.

I believe governments genuinely have got themselves into the war on drugs to reduce the illegal drugs industry. But the reason why they have, is in itself sinister – a mindset that sees force and discipline as the only way to tackle a problem. It’s an error of judgement that has fundamentally increased crime, not reduced it. In Latin America it has had disastrous results.

During the Taliban’s reign of Afghanistan (before 9/11) they had decimated heroin production in the country that traditionally produces the most heroin in the world. After 9/11 once the Taliban were ousted, the heroin trade immediately flourished once more.

The War on Drugs!!! The war is to control distribution, illegal narcotics are as in the words of Colonel Ollie North, “Black Money for Black Ops”. Heroin and Cocaine have been flooded into the USA by government agencies, Read “Dark Alliance” author Gary Webb, who “committed Suicide” after it was published, also Whiteout CIA Drugs and the Press, Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey Sinclair, two very well researched and accurate books.

Currently, Afghanistan’s heroin production is at a record high even though there are US forces, UN troops and soldiers from various other Western nations supposedly patrolling the fields…Go figure how that’s possible!!

The War on Drugs probably interrelates to various other corrupt systems (such as the highly lucrative private prison system).

The world must wake up, US forces in 174 countries now, with “Black ops personnel” in more countries. Narcotics are flooding the streets of Europe/UK/USA/CAN/AUS/ and other places courtesy of government agencies. The amount of Narcotics that is coming in with very little interdiction is ridiculous. It is a massive game for the governments, for the ordinary people it is a massive nightmare about to become real.
