Now that Amazon have added Japan to their ever-growing list of sites to carry Kindle ebooks, our novels are finally available to Japanese readers!

This brings to seven sites internationally, including Japan, that the digital versions of our novels are selling in – the others being the US (also serves India and Canada), Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

Unsurprisingly, the early signs from the Land of the Rising Sun are that of all three of our published novels, Japanese readers are most interested in our international thriller, The Ninth Orphan (The Orphan Trilogy, #1). Not surprising given a prominent sub-plot in this novel concerns Yamashita’s Gold.

Yamashita’s Gold, also referred to as Yamashita’s Treasure, is the name given to the alleged war loot stolen in Southeast Asia by Japanese forces during World War II and hidden in caves, tunnels and underground complexes in the Philippines. It is named for the Japanese general Tomoyuki Yamashita, nicknamed “The Tiger of Malaya”.

Wed Nov 7, 2012 3:41am EST:

In the wake of the US presidential elections it is suggested that bitter partisanship would likely remain very much alive in Washington in the new year. Reuters reports the elections also revealed that there was no broad mandate for much beyond the broadly shared goals of improving the economy and reducing government debt.

The report continues:

That means that undertaking bold new initiatives comparable to healthcare reform, financial regulation and economic stimulus programs will be a great deal more complicated for Obama 2012 than they were for Obama 2008.

Even so, Obama – now unfettered by not having to face voters again – is in position to pursue an ambitious agenda that could leave his mark on government for a generation or longer, including a move to revamp the nation’s immigration laws…

…Political analysts and strategists expect Obama’s second-term agenda to be layered with increased federal spending for education, job and energy programs.

But such an agenda will be complicated by the government’s $16 trillion debt and the looming “fiscal cliff” – a $600 billion tax increase scheduled to take effect along with mandatory spending cuts at the start of the new year unless Obama and Congress can agree on a deficit reduction deal.

However, the question remains: Does the election result really matter? Has a US election result mattered since the Kennedy era?

We attempt to answer these questions in our international thriller novels, The Ninth Orphan (The Orphan Trilogy, #1), and The Orphan Factory (The Orphan Trilogy, #2) and shed some light on who wields the real power in today’s world…

With national polls in the US presidential elections showing a neck-and-neck race, Romney was in Florida, Virginia, and New Hampshire, while Obama was trying to protect Wisconsin from an eleventh-hour challenge from the GOP before heading to Iowa. And that’s where the two campaigns believe the race will be decided, according to Associated Press.

The report continues:

And in an indication of just how all-important Ohio was once again to the future occupancy of the White House, both candidates planned to be on the ground in Columbus Monday evening for dueling rallies seven miles apart.

Whoever wins Ohio has a simpler path to amass the 270 electoral votes needed to claim the presidency. With Obama showing a lead in most polls of the state’s likely voters, Romney voiced guarded optimism Sunday in Cleveland, saying Obama’s re-election is “possible, but not likely.”

A final national NBC/Wall Street Journal Poll showed Obama getting the support of 48 percent of likely voters, with Romney receiving 47 percent. A Washington Post-ABC News tracking poll had Obama at 49 and Romney at 48. A Pew Research Center poll released Sunday showed Obama with a 3-point-point edge over Romney, 48 percent to 45 percent among likely voters.

Romney vs Obama…Does the result really matter?

As the US presidential elections race enters its final days, Romney still has the tougher path, according to CNN who report: “He must win more of the nine most-contested states to reach 270 electoral votes: Ohio, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, Nevada, Wisconsin, Iowa and New Hampshire.”

Quoting Associated Press, the report continues:

Romney has added Pennsylvania to the mix, hoping to end a streak of five presidential contests where the Democratic candidate prevailed in the state. Obama won Pennsylvania by more than 10 percentage points in 2008; the latest polls in the state give him a 4- to 5-point margin…

…The final frenzy of campaigning comes in the wake of Superstorm Sandy that has dominated much of the news coverage for the past several days as New York, New Jersey and Connecticut recover from the brunt of its force…

…In crucial early voting, Obama holds an apparent lead over Romney in key states. But Obama’s advantage isn’t as big as the one he had over John McCain four years ago, giving Romney hope that he could make up that gap in Tuesday’s election…

…Several battleground states are releasing the party affiliation of people who have voted early. So far, Democratic voters outnumber Republicans in Florida, Iowa, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio. Republicans have the edge in Colorado.

However, the question remains: Does the election result really matter? Has a US election result mattered since the Kennedy era?

Book Review: The Ninth Orphan, by James and Lance Morcan

A few months ago, I had the opportunity to review a very enjoyable book by the father/son writing team, James and Lance Morcan, called Fiji: A Novel. So, I was very excited when I had the opportunity to review another novel by this duo: The Ninth Orphan. This psychological thriller really kept me on the edge of my seat!
The Ninth Orphan is the story of Sebastian, more commonly called Nine because he is the ninth of twenty-three children who were raised and trained apart from natural parents to become elite members of a super-secret spy agency. Nine is exceptionally gifted at the spy game and plays it well, but when he reaches the age of 31, he decides he wants to lead a “normal” life, away from the intrigue and secrecy of the world of espionage. Unfortunately, his employer, the Omega Agency, doesn’t support his decision, and it becomes a cat-and-mouse game when Nine implements his plan to break away from the agency.
Along the way, we learn that Nine is a master of disguise as he adeptly uses makeup and various costumes to transform himself into people that the other agents are unlikely to recognize. Nine also picks up a reluctant hostage along the way — a beautiful Frenchwoman named Isabelle — who becomes more and more bonded to Nine as their perilous journey unfolds. Will Nine and Isabelle ever be able to elude their pursuers and create a new life on the peaceful island that Nine has acquired?
I couldn’t stop reading this book filled with plenty of action and mystery, so I was happy to learn that The Ninth Orphan is part of a trilogy, which includes a prequel — The Orphan Factory — and a sequel (to come) — The Orphan Uprising. The Ninth Orphan is available now as a paperback and eBook. I hope you’ll pick up a copy today!
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions are 100% my own. This post contains affiliate links.

The Telegraph’s Peter Foster says “It should go without saying…No-one should play politics with a storm as awesome and once-in-a-century-sized as Hurricane Sandy. But it also goes without saying that in the election campaign headquarters…the strategists are thinking of absolutely nothing else, even as they order their candidates to look straight ahead and appear as ‘presidential’ as possible.”

Foster continues:

The truth is that with just one week to go until election day, and with Mr Obama and Mr Romney tied in the polls, you can construct a narrative to suit your political inclinations out of Hurricane Sandy. Look hard enough into those lowering, spiralling clouds, and there is a silver lining for everyone.

…For what it’s worth, I peer into the vortex that is Hurricane Sandy and foresee
Mr Obama getting a marginal bump for looking presidential as long as nothing
disastrous happens to undermine him – while Mr Romney, recently surging in the
polls, has the frustration of trying to close the deal at a time when, all of a
sudden, the voices of politicians are being drowned out by the roar of a mighty,
mighty storm.
